  1. So I have surgery in 6 days! I had my pre-op yesterday and they did blood testing to figure out what my blood type was and a urine test to make sure I am not pregnant. I figured since I am on my period this week that it would be a pretty straight answer, but I understand them wanting to be sure. Which let me tell you.. The universe is getting back at you for something if you go on your period the same time you are on a liquid diet. I seriously do not know how I am able to interact with people without losing it!!

I hear you Spicy06! I haven't had my period in a year (I'm 46) and it decided to visit me this past week, with surgery tomorrow. I've been doing a lot of hiding in my room in the evenings so I don't hurt anyone's feelings with my crankiness :D The rest of the day is a different matter - lol.

  2. Hi Candice, I'm so sorry you are depressed. I understand it is very common when you've made such big changes in your life, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with.

I think that by reaching out here you are taking a positive step. I've struggled with depression for many years and am lucky enough to have professional help. My therapist tells me that when I am starting to feel depressed, the best thing I can do is exercise and spend time being engaged with other people. It's very difficult to do when I am sad but always helps.

  3. I had a call from my doc asking me if I wanted to change my mind and switch to an RNY because she discovered a hiatus hernia after a barium swallow test. Although I've never really had any GERD problems to date, I had to give it some serious consideration. Ultimately I decided the sleeve was still the best option for me (I have anemia and arthritis) and am hoping I am one of the lucky ones that doesn't encounter this problem.

  4. So I have to say I am not nervous about the surgery..at all. What I am nervous about is the liquid diet. For two weeks prior to surgery I am limited to broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, one Protein bar a day, and Protein drinks. My best friend went through this and she was starving. I am not looking forward to this part at all. I feel like this is going to make the two weeks prior just drag on. After my surgery I will be back on the liquid diet for 2 more weeks but I will not be allowed to eat the protein bar. Anyone else nervous about this?

I am a little - in two days I have to start with the pre-op diet which consists of 5 diabetic boost per day.

  5. Hi folks! My name is Maxine, and I am a single mom with a 24 year-old son that I'm pretty proud of. I'm currently not working but do take care of my elderly parents, with whom I live. I have a huge family, with five brothers and sisters and tons of nieces and nephews who I adore. I've been overweight pretty much my entire life and am both excited and terrified of the journey on which I am soon to embark.

  6. Hi Kim! So glad I saw your post, as I am having a lot of the same fears. I am so terrified something will happen during surgery, even though I'm pretty healthy to begin with. My surgery is March 3. There is a part of me that is scared but there is also excitement that in a year or so I'll be able to take part in many activities that I can't right now.
