    6 month supervised diets

My insurance says 6 consecutive months. Which means if you have an appointment 6/19 then you need another appointment on or before the 30th day after your 6/19 appointment.
  3. Hey Everyone! So I am still in my 6 month Doctor Supervised weight loss period. I'm starting month 5 here soon and I'm a little nervous about insurance. My starting weight at the beginning was 300 pounds and last doctor visit I weighed 305. I have gained right around a pound each doctor appointment. I have stuck to my diet the majority of the time with a few cheats here or there. (I have BCBS of AL) Has anyone else gained weight and still gotten approved? Thanks!

    Gained weight during Diet

I did read my policy and had my surgeon's office read it and nowhere does it say I have to lose weight. But I'm just wondering would they deny me since I did gain some weight originally. My surgeon is requiring me to lose at least 10 pounds by surgery which isn't bad. Good Luck with your weigh in!!

    Gained weight during Diet

My weight loss goal is at least 10-15 lbs. I have switched my diet to a High protein Low Carb diet and its working thus far! I have lost 5 pounds in the past 2 weeks alone. So excited to finally find something to help me lose weight. I haven't started drinking the Protein Shakes yet, but I have in the past. I planned to start those in July since I will have to drink them for a week straight before surgery and after surgery. What's helped you not be so hungry just being on a liquid diet? I think that is what I will struggle with(being hungry all the time).

Hopefully they are giving you hard copies of the stuff you'll need. There is a lot of information to keep up with before and after surgery. Check to see if your surgical group has a website with the WLS info posted to it, also. 7 months later and I still refer to various pieces of information.

They did give me a whole binder and I took notes. It was just so much and I walked away like wow. But the phone idea would be good for on the go.

    Clothing prep for post

I honestly haven't prepped for it. I guess I'll use some rope to hold my pants up! LOL. Thrift store shopping is a great idea though my surgery will be end of August. What did you buy thus far, like 2-3 sizes smaller than you currently are?

    Disney World!

I'm so glad it hasn't been bad! Has it been really hard not being able to eat as much or you don't really notice? I have been really nervous about surgery because it seems like most are saying its super hard(ie taking pain medicine). I handle pain well and have never had to take anything stronger than tylenol, but I also have never had major surgery like this. I am a big ball of nerves! lol

    Adding friends

You just click on their name and it will take you to their profile and click add friend. Update: I did try it with app and that doesn't work however if you click on the person and then in top left hand corner click the menu thing.. open in browser then go to profile and there is the add friend option.

To be or not to be

I don't know how much this will help... So I have not had the surgery yet, but I do have PCOS and have not been able to have a child either. I understand it is so frustrating to see everyone else having children and wanting the same for yourself. PCOS is one of the reasons I'm working towards the gastric bypass, so I can have children. My surgeon told me that I needed to wait 18 months. I know it may seem hard, but wouldn't you like to be healthy when you bring a child into this world? That way you can teach him or her how to be healthy. Also, I'm sure that being a more healthy weight should increase your chances for not miscarrying. I personally have miscarried numerous times and it never gets easier. I know 18 months seems like a long time, but it gives you time to adjust to eating healthier and decreases your chances of miscarriage.

    Surgery in September

I'm not sure if your asking me but I have had to do my 6 month doctor supervised diet. I'm in month 5 of the 6. I met with my surgeon recently to go over everything and set all of my appointments (psych, dietitian, etc). He stated I would have surgery at the end of August or beginning September. I'm sooo READY! How about you? Where are you in the process?

    Surgery in September

I should be having surgery in late August or early September too!
  15. Hey All, I would like to know what Protein diet you all use? I have found a book "The Protein Power" and I am not sure if this is what I am supposed to be doing or what.. I would like to know if there is a protein diet book you have and love or a protein diet plan you have found that works? I do not meet with my dietician until July (currently in month 5 of 6 doctor diet). For my doctor supervised diet I have been just counting calories, but I would like to switch over to a protein diet since that is what my surgeon wants me to do. Thanks! (Sorry if I posted in wrong area I tried to find where it needed to go)

    Protein Diet Plan?

I'm sorry I meant like a High Protein Low carb diet not the liquid diet.. my surgeon doesn't require the liquid protein diet until 7 days before surgery. Thank goodness for that! I would lose my mind if I had to do it for 2-4 weeks like some I have seen. But I will keep that in mind!
  17. Congratulations your getting closer! I'm in month 5 of my 6 months and have all my appointments(dietitian, psych, and ugi) scheduled. So hopefully I can have surgery somewhere in August or beginning of September! I still haven't figured out if I want the sleeve or bypass. It's such a FINAL decision! I'm leaning toward bypass vs sleeve bc I do not like that they take my stomach out completely. However, less trauma to my insides with the sleeve.. ugh. lol
  18. Hey @juno5 As far as your question about the doctor, I think it is a really good idea to go with someone you are comfortable with. If you are not comfortable with the newer doctor that is replacing the one you were originally going to go with, then you should pick a different doctor. I personally would not want to have to worry about my doctor on top of all the other stuff you have to do.To me though a newer doctor doesn't mean he is any less qualified. Also, he might be even more careful than a doctor that has been doing them for years. Thats just my opinion though. You should definitely do what makes you feel comfortable. Now whethere your ob/gyn counts toward documented weight gain or just being obese as a whole my insurance did NOT say it had to be a pcp. So if your insurance does not say specifically pcp and it says something like physician documented or must be in medical records then any doctor will do. I am personally using my ob/gyn's weight and height to submit as proof. Something else to check for is if your insurance allows.... If say you don't go to a doctor in a 1 year time span and you have a picture of yourself during that time that shows your overweight AND you get your current pcp to sign off saying yes she was obese then with a date. My insurance will accept the picture. But that is my particular insurance I would suggest getting your policy and looking at it. If you have any more questions or something just let me know. I am no expert by any means, but I might can help.

Share your rants about the fashion industry!

@@funky_monkey800 I could not agree more! I was just telling someone the other day that bra's had to have been invented by men! lol I personally hate when I go to buy shorts and either I feel like my fatty part of my thigh is hanging out(too short) or I am wearing a pair of capris. Also, when everything is that clingy material and it is so kind to accentuate my lovely belly I mean who doesn't love that! lol

    Gained weight during Diet

Thanks, I appreciate it! I'm going to look into keeping up with carbs and see if that helps some. I don't see how it could hurt!

    Gained weight during Diet

I have PCOS and take metformin for it. I'm insulin resistant. Ever since I got diagnosed with the PCOS several years back it seems like it has gotten harder and harder to lose weight. Or if I do lose some weight its because I work out 6-7 days a week for 1hr n half. I'm just really nervous that my insurance is going to deny me because of the gain. They don't count PCOS as a co-morbidity.

    BCBS ALABAMA

Hey.. I have BCBS of al and Im currently in my 6 month doctor supervised weight loss program. I'm fixing to start month 5 out of 6 in two days so I'm nearing the end! I'm not sure what your bmi is, but you have to be above a 40 with no co morbidity's and 35-39 with co morbidity's.. If you dip below the 40 and don't have a co morbidity then they will not approve you. Also, I have PCOS as well and my particular bcbs of al does NOT count that as a co morbidity. If you have any questions or need to talk feel free to message me or email me anytime.
