  1. Hello all! I'm 25 and had surgery 3/26/2015 My 3 month plateau just broke and I must admit is a wonderful energizing feeling to know things are working. Keep up the great work everyone! @@Cervidae and @@morgants90 How are you feeling post op?

    Need advice please!

For me one of the hardest adjustments (still working on it) was to not be so concerned with the rate at which the pounds fell. I was obsessed with the average rates of loss the doctor's told me about and staying within or surpassing that range. I'm still working on accepting that there is only so much I can do to affect the rate at which I lose weight and that it will happen when my body's ready. I've been loosing about 5 pounds a month for months 3-5 post op and in month 6 lost 15! Best of luck on your journey
  3. Pre surgery I thought I'd be celebrating every 10 lbs or so, but since having surgery I haven't at all! Ive been thinking that I'd like to do something to mark my 100 lbs lost but have no idea what! Would love some suggestions

    Cooking

I hear ya @@amchurch12000 I'm also not a huge fan of leftovers, however I love prepping meals and wish I could enjoy the result of cooking a few meals and enjoying them over a week. I've found a balance of prepping as much as possible (like washing cutting and seasoning all the veg and meat) and storing it in portions for one meal. I'll also often partially cook my meat so that it takes less time when it comes to cooking the meal and I can blend cooking the veg and meat at the same time in the same dish. Trial and error or borrowing from different people's strategies may help you to find a solution that works perfectly for you.

    Hunger pangs

In the liquid diet I found drinking water and chewing gum to be my salvation against hunger. Now at 7 weeks post op I feel hunger and try to establish between head hunger, stomach hunger and thirst..... It's frustrating.

  10. Hey all! I'm doing great. Had my 3 week out stall so decided it was a great time to up my steps a day. I've been working on surpassing 8,000 steps/day. I've noticed my daily calories increase to about 900, am going to check in with the dietician because I don't have the group class till May 20th. My two months off work is coming to an end! How's everyone else doing?

I love fruit and have been finding it hard to limit how much I eat of that. I'm going to call my Dr's office to see about specifications. A friend who had the surgery at the same hospital said they recommended 90-130g carbs and 1000-1300 calories a day. My stall finally seems to be ending so I'm feeling relieved. I've been walking so far, aiming for atleast 8,000 steps a day to work up to 10,000. I was told to wait till the 6 week Point to lift more than 20lb.

Reading about how many calories you're getting in is making me nervous! I'm averaging 700-800 a day. I'm afraid I'm over eating. Nice to hear a doctor say average weight loss for the first month is 15lb. I lost more on my pre op liquid diet than I have so far post op ????
  14. From reading the boards I've taken that it is very common to have a stall around the 3 week mark. I have been experiencing one as well and have taken comfort in the knowledge that this is common and will pass. You're doing great!
  15. Hooray @@Tintin! So glad to hear from you and welcome to the other side . Those tummy noises are crazy aren't they?! I'm relieved to say mine have calmed down after a few weeks. Sounds like you are doing fantastic! Enjoy all the sipping of liquids (I felt like a fish for all the sipping the first two weeks) and it's great to hear that you're up and about able to walk around Keep us posted!

I have no idea about carb quantities immediately after surgery, though I too would like to know. I found this article recently and found it interesting http://www.bariatriceating.com/2014/01/12/recommended-levels-of-carbohydrate-after-bariatric-surgery/

I found the liquid stage hard too but I found that the more liquid I drank and the busier I stayed the easier it got. I also chewed sugar free gum...
  20. Hi all I'm wondering if it's ok (from a nutritional perspective) to heat the Premier Protein shakes. I rather miss hot chocolate and think this could be a nice replacement. Thanks in advance

    Premier Protein- HOT!

@@wildGoose That's a very good point! I remember thinking about that before surgery and being excited to focus on quality, it's rather silly that I've already forgotten @@Kindle that does sound good, and fun to make! I like the ability to tinker with recipes and make my own products Thanks all I was worried when my doctor told us pre op not to heat our optimist as it destroyed the Protein or something. I'm going to heat away with a clear conscious

When were YOU allowed to go solid?

@@bangbangbarbie I am dealing with the same thing! I had surgery 03/26 I called my doctor's office afraid of moving too fast because things seem to be going too well and they very patiently told me that the guidelines were just that, guidelines. They said there were mainly in place because many people can run into issues with food getting stuck, creating feelings of discomfort that can lead to them not getting in proper nutrition for the rest of the day. I was told that so long as I gradually introduce new foods, and chew them very well, I can progress at whatever pace my body accepts. They said the stages they have (liquid, puree, soft food, 'normal' food) is in place not only to reduce blockage but also to align with how our innards are healing (i.e. they can tolerate soft cooked veggies before our pouches can handle raw carrots), but as we all heal at different rates our abilities to tolerate things also varies. I'd also been afraid of eating too much and stretching my pouch so had limited myself to 1/4 cup at each meal, I was again reassured today that eating 1/2 cup in a sitting would not cause me harm but that I may find it easier to eat 1/2 cup of yogurt than I would 1/2 cup of chicken and veggies! Fair point I reckoned. I was really glad to hear back from them because I felt ready to progress to the next stage ( soft food: eating things like chicken) last Friday, only two days after finishing my liquid diet but was afraid too.... Needless to say that didn't stop me from trying lovely tender chicken over the weekend, never did I think I'd enjoy plain chicken so much!! Let's embrace the smooth sailing!

    1week post op diet

Mine said yes but to strain out any solid bits, they also suggested making it with milk to up the protein.
