    Revision

I had the band removed a couple of months ago due to slip, vomit constantly. I am having my sleeve done July 14th. Couldn't do in one surgery due to risk and need to allow healing time before sleeve is done. The wait in between really sucks but from all the things I am reading in the band to sleeve revision forum I am ready for my sleeve surgery.

    Sleeve or Lap Band?

Oh..also I choose the sleeve over gastric bypass because I didn't want my intestines messed with and because the sleeve can later add a gastric bypass if needed and it seems that most of the people on here were successful with just the sleeve alone. So you do have some future options for making your surgery more if you need to by adding the bypass.

    Sleeve or Lap Band?

I had the band and am doing revision to sleeve as my band slipped and was removed a couple of months ag. I spent the last 3 years throwing up every day...that is the long story short. With so many issues with the band I would let it go. If you trust your hospital that provides sleeves and not the one that provides the band that should also be a sign. Many women have had many healthy babies after the sleeve. People are successful with the sleeve, as some are with the band, but the band failed them like it failed me. Read the posts on here in the band to sleeve forum and you can get a feel for what people went through with the band, it is no easier than the sleeve just because it feels less permanent. And it required me to have another surgery after the band failed. Some people suffered with issues such as scar tissue and erosion (holes) when the band was removed making getting a sleeve later more difficult. From my experience you should skip the band and go with the sleeve. Whatever you decide please do some additional research and read the posts on band to sleeve so that you know what could happen with either surgery. I wish you the best of luck. The band was great until it wasn't...

Well I have been eating everything I might miss. I bought some samples of different shakes like nectar. I really like the premier Protein and it is sold by costco online so perfect!! Don't even have to take the time to mix it like some of the others. I am ready for the pre surgery diet to get rolling because someone asked me today if I was pregnant...UGHHHHH
  11. I just read through my pre surgery packet and it says to stop birth control 30 days before surgery. I still have not as I really don't want to miss out on my surgery because I will get pregnant. Does anyone else have this restriction and does anyone know Why there is such a restriction? i am on a really mild bcp already called micronor.

I am prepping by eating everything I might ever want before I can't eat it. But I will stick rigidly to the 2 week pre op diet I was prescribed. I will actually be glad when it starts. I need the structure. I just want it to be surgery day already.
  13. Thank you. I have a call in to my Dr with the exact type of bcp I am on and hope he will say ok to continue, but if not I will follow his instructions. He has no deaths for a reason.
  14. I will follow, just was hoping for a repreve.

How did you choose your doctor?

I hope if you choose the band that you have great success. And if not you have the choice to remove it and choose a different surgery. Best of luck with you weight loss. Every method had its risks and successes.

I finally got my paperwork and start the pre surgery diet on the 30th. Not much time left to eat everything I ever wanted to when I couldn't because of my band. lol. Seriously only stick to the diet cause I want my surgery so I am stocking up on the premier Protein and some some other shakes to drink, 3 a day and then I get one little meal thing each day too so that will help a bit..but I love to eat so this will not be fun. Only good thing is I will stop going up and start going down in weight. Love costco for the Protein powder and premier Protein Shakes.

How did you choose your doctor?

And I don't bash them, i had one that was wonderful until it wasn't. It's a choice. I just think a person should research thoroughly.

How did you choose your doctor?

@@AvalonNeeCee So because you say your surgeon doesn't do lapband anymore, you think that's a reason not to get one?????? Who is your surgeon? Why doesn't he/she do them? I find it almost comical you would post such a reply to someone who is asking for advice on HOW WE. ...THOSE OF US WHO HAVE IT, selected our surgeons. Some of us are very successful and HAPPY with our lapband results. I have had a band for several years and had to have it removed and am waiting to do my revision, sleeve. I am not talking out my A**, I have been there. I am one of THOSE OF US WHO HAVE IT.

How did you choose your doctor?

The lapband is "no walk in the park" It takes months to get the fills to the point where you have any real restriction. I had the most fill allowed before I could feel restriction. After a couple of years I finally lost weight and got to where I wanted to be 110 on 5ft frame. Happy happy...until....lap band slipped and I had to have it removed...lots of quick weight return.. I have read so many comments from so many people on the sleeve as it is my next surgery. I think if you read the lapband to sleeve revision forum you will better be able to decide if you want to waste time on the lapband first. Many doctors do not even do the lapband anymore due to its failure rates which are becoming more and more apparent as more people are having to do revisions. At the time I wanted the less permanent option because that feels safer, but in the end you may have to deal with a revision, have slippage, have indigestion, have erosion, and many other things that can go wrong with the band. If I can spare you that I would because I have been there and done that. I read that the weight loss with the sleeve is much more immediate and you really start to see results quickly. In my experience with the band I lost during my pre surgery diet, then the first couple of weeks after surgery because swollen and sore, but then I could eat and I did. It took over a year for the fills to be tight enough to restrict my eating and finally stop gaining and start loosing. They only can put so much in each time they fill you. When I finally was at a point that I loved my weight I had the vomiting issues. I put up with that for months because I didn't want to gain. Had regurgitation, indigestion etc. Finally had to get band loosened as I couldn't keep anything down...turns out band had slipped...removal...... You will read of many people that still love their band and have been successful, as there are many. But please consider that this is something that they may have to have removed at some point and there are complications with removal of bands, especially that have been in the body for a long time. Please take the time to read up on revisions, check statistics, and talk to people that have had the band and both love it and hate it. Cause even those that love their band as I did have to admit it took awhile to work, and they may have other issues such as the reflux and regurgitation. whatever you decide I wish you the best. Just please do your research, as you seem to be doing, so you can feel what you choose was best for you with no regrets, even if you end up doing a revision later on. And you will if that becomes your option, because you are going to love being smaller and healthier. Best of luck to you and always happy to chat about my experience.
