Ok, bit the bullet and ordered the book

I was writing my last pages in a journal I started in Nov 2014 doing a recap of sorts. After doing a lot of thinking the last few days, I realized that you have to put some serious effort into online dating. I have a bunch of guys who have "liked" me...and a few emails. One thing that POF does that irks me, they now have it set that you have to have a subscription to see who likes you. But you get emails that state so-and-so likes you. So I decided that I am going to get a new notebook for dating. I'll write down the guys screen names from my email and look them each up. I'll add notes as I go along. Since I'm not even in my 40's any longer, I need to figure out more of what I'm looking for. So, I'll make myself take some time each day, or every other day and try this out. If I can play on FB for over an hour, why not look at profiles? Here are two selfies. The flower in hair one is a few years old, but I use it still. I like to have shots with my hair curly, straight, no make-up...etc. I haven't changed much, my face is thinner...but if people from high school come up to me out of the blue saying I look the exact same.... As for having others take my picture, I usually dislike how I look. I know that I take great shots for folks as they always end up using my pis for their FB and dating profiles...go figure.

@okpirate @@CowgirlJane You two slay me!!!! I dated a guy who was 10 years older and was a blast. He had the stamina for EVERYTHING! Too bad he was not in his "right" place for the relationship. @@OutsideMatchInside I dated a guy who was in his early 20's when I was in my late 30's. Have no idea what I was thinking. My parents would ask what I was packing for HIS school lunch when. I was making my kids lunches. Lol. I just don't know. I've been out of the dating game for over five years. I buried my head in getting my undergrad degree and grandchildren. I'm starting grad school in June. I'd like to get some dating fun in before the crazy summer begins. Right now it just seems like sooooo much work.

I'd "like" to get married for the last time. However, being 51 with grown kids, and retired, puts me in a very weird category. I get guys over 60yo saying they are 40-something, 50-somethings with pre-teen children or the other 50-somethings that want 30yo's. Never mind the 40-somethings who haven't a clue. I'm active, reasonably attractive, love life and like to travel, why can't I find men that who take the time to make sure their profile shots don't resemble mugshots??? I deleted my Match profile. Still playing around with POF, and a friend site, and eHarmony netted me a big fat -0- and was a waste of money. My gf joined OurTime for the over 50-sect...thoughts?

    African American vsgers!

Perhaps you need to UP your calorie count for awhile. Shake things up a bit. In a week I'll be one year out. I have warbling between 165-172 since last November weigh-in. I went to Las Vegas a week ago and didn't track anything. Came back home and started doing no sugar, or junk food etc. I also did not weigh myself when I came back until today. My weight today is down 10 pounds from the week before the trip. I have renewed energy and feel much better. I know I was obsessing over the numbers on the scale. Just a thought, talk to your NUT about it.

    Are you excited about 2016?

I am very excited for 2016. I was accepted to grad school for social work with the goal of being a therapist. It's more than a bit scary as I navigate how I will pay for this, How I will manage the heavy clinical load and my son getting married the first weekend after I start classes. I've decided that this is TOTALLY the year of me! I'm cleaning and clearing out the old and unhealthy...thoughts, things and people. I finally have a good group of supportive people in my life. I'm making better choices daily and intend to continue doing so. As for my personal life...I have dealt and understand the mistakes I've made in past relationships. I am ready and open to be back on the market. Bring it on!!!!
  7. I decided that this year I wouldn't make any "resolutions" instead I am making DETERMINATIONS. I am determined to move more, and thankfully due to being sleeved, I already am. I put all my boots in the attic and have to go up there daily to grab whatever I am going to wear out of my 150+ collection of footwear. I also went to the gym for the first time today after a few months of slacking. It felt good, although afterwards o needed to take a nap. I definitely need to get a routine going. Being retired and out of school is not the best for my activity level. Then add being a night owl...time to become a day walker...lol.

Coffee Protein Powder! Is it safe for us?

I ordered the Click in three favors. I found for my tummy it is too strong as a regular serving. I feel it tastes better and isn't rough on my tummy when I use half and mix it with vanilla sugar free almond milk. It definitely gives me a "kick"!

Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?

@@songsmith thank you! I never ever would have thought there was a waist in this body. I have ALWAYS been an apple or linebacker shape. I asked my surgeon and a gfs surgeon about studies of folks who've had the surgery vs other weight loss methods and body shape. I am still looking for journal articles if anyone knows of any. Twenty-five years ago was the last time I hit "goal" after diet and serious exercising (work training academy). I was fit and toned...but no waist. Who would believe at 51, you can have an hourglass figure? I actually didn't believe it until I posted asking what my shape is...and it still took a few more weeks to sink in. Loving my sleeve, my new life AND my new body!

Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?

I'm 51yo and like the leather and lace, the 50's swing dresses, skinny jeans, boot cut, soooo many things. I'm also a pack rat, hoarder and the like. So now that I have thinned so much of my home of the clutter, I don't want to fill it up with "one or two time" clothes. To help with the shopaholic feelings, I go try on a bunch of clothes, take selfies and THEN decide if I really want them. Most of the time...nope! It is soooo much fun to try on clothes I never thought would fit, look good or even wear...then be surprised. The first picture is a dress I wore to a ball in November. My former co-workers didn't recognize me. The last picture is a dress I bought five years ago and finally wore it for thanksgiving. The middle ones are things I tried on and liked, but not "enough".

NSV - My smaller jeans are saggy in the butt!

@@wannaBthinsoon Totally am with you on the gut thing. @sharkgirl. I bought jeggins last week and they "seemed" to fit when I got them. Wore them and they are baggy in the butt. Try smaller jeans and see if you can get ones with less spandex in them. I'm having "loving my body" time EXCEPT my gut....wtheck? I need a 12 for my waist and a 10 for my butt and thighs...arghhh!

    So many crazy men

    So many crazy men

I did the online dating when Match was Love@@aol in the early 2000's. Went on a few dates, met one of my best friends (he married a woman off the sight and I'm auntie to their daughter). It was fun...then. Fifteen years later and I'm back in the dating pool after a five year self-imposed exile after a painful breakup. I took the time to reevaluate myself, my wants, needs and aspirations. Plus, I went back to school. Now, I'm older, much thinner, happier and have very specific things I want and don't want in a relationship. Living where I do, the dating pool is pretty slim. My wants: 1. Must be within 5 years to absolutely no more than 10 years of my age. 2. Must have gainful employment or be retired with pension, etc. 3. Have their own home, apartment, etc. 4. No young children. You'd be surprised how many 50+ men will write me who have 2,4,6,8 year olds! I raised my children and have grandchildren that age. I'm no ones weekend mama. 5. Be financially secure, I'm not saying has to be wealthy. He just can't be relying on credit cards or his mama to get by. 6. Be intelligent. Holding a conversation and having the ability to use proper grammer is a must. I have dismissed men online for writing bios where there is no capitalization or punctuation. 7.Be willing to travel. I like the beach, skiing and visiting other countries. 8. Like to snuggle, kiss and enjoy intimacy. I don't think my list is too much. Almost forgot, nosmoking, drugs or felons. (My iPad hates the app and dislikes the website lately) ,
  17. Laurie, I live in MA. Question about area, I come to NY a couple times a year, dare I ask about parking around there?

Thanks @OKCPirate. After looking at your profile I need to change up some things, including pictures. I'm currently rocking a totally Angela Davis 1960's look. It's funny how when I was young I fought to wear makeup and now, I could care less most days. Going to a wedding this weekend. Should get some fun pics from that. Being versatile, I'm all about it!

What body type do you have after your weight loss?

I used to be my father's lil half-back then I was a full-back. I was always the biggest kid in the family. For twenty years, as a firefighter, I always had broad shoulders, big arms, thick legs and calves. They served me well doing the hard stuff. I could never buy a regular blazer or button down shirt, jeans were torture and forget boots. I learned to sew because I couldn't find things that fit me well. Now it's my belly that's still giving me trouble when shopping. But I will take it versus the sixty pounds! So what shape do you see?

Love that movie.... Years ago, I wanted to get a hood or clitoral piercing. The piercer asked me what mine looked like, I didn't know...had to go home and do a Kathy Bates. And all this talk of wieners makes me want to run out to Costco to get one of their fabulous huge ones....lol!

What body type do you have after your weight loss?

Most of my life I considered myself an apple or inverted triangle. I always considered myself as large framed. Not-so-much now. It's as though this surgery brought out something different. In my best shape of my life (age 24 and my still want it to be, goal weight), I was larger framed than I am now...except this gut. I too would be at least a size smaller in pants, probably two if I got rid of this stomach. Too bad there is no such thing as spot reduce. Plastics for me!
