  1. Hello, My name is Brittany and I am going through the appointment process of the Sleeve surgery. I am terrified of having the sleeve and then not being able to lose weight due to the hormone replacements I'm on. I've had 9 surgeries in 8 years which has caused me to gain weight after each one. The big one was when i had to have an emergency hysterectomy 2 weeks into being 22 and they took everything (ovaries, uterus) causing me to go on hormone replacements. I gained 25 lbs just in 1 MONTH after this surgery and it has gone up from there. Has anyone had any experience with this? I just need some people to talk to and ease my mind.

    Anthem BlueCross

Hi! My name is Brittany and my husband Michael and I are doing the sleeve surgery together. We live up here in California, right along the border of Cali and Oregon. We've been going to Southern Oregon Bariatric center since we decided to do this surgery last November. Our first appointment was 3 days before Christmas on December 22nd and that got everything put into motion. Our insurance is going to pay 90/10. Today we went in for my husband to meet the surgeon as his surgery was looking like it was going to be early next month. BOY WERE WE WRONG. Upon preauthorized approval, we were told that Anthem no longer works with that specific center in Oregon and we can only be authorized to have our surgeries in California. Now this wouldn't have been a problem for us if they had told us at the beginning and we weren't already 95% of the way done with our insurance requirements. The big problem is travel for us now. We were approved to go to UCSF in San Francisco but that's almost 6 hours south of us (we're in the middle of nowhere, I told you). Has anyone had this problem? This was a huge setback to us, now we have to take the time off of work to travel down there and make sure our appointments can be all at once. Has anyone even had this problem with Blue Cross not accepting an accredited facility?

    Before and After Pics

Seeing all of your beautiful transformation pictures make me tear up with glee. You all are so beautiful! Even though I don't personally know ANY of you, I am proud of you, I am cheering you on. It's been very hard for me to accept being over weight. I was VERY fit and athletic all through my teenage years so I was used to being "skinny". Honestly the superficial thing I'm most excited about after I have my surgery in July is being able to have a thinner face. Sounds silly but I can't even stand smiling anymore because I look like a little dumpling. Thank you guys for empowering me. Your hard work is not going un-noticed.

    HOW LONG OFF OF WORK?

I was wondering the same thing about time off from work. I'm going to ask my doctor if he'd sign a note saying that I can come back after 2-3 days. I work in an office so I sit all day long and I never really lift anything heavy. I can't afford to miss any more time than that so I'm crossing my fingers hoping that will be ok. We'll see

    Bariatric Vitamins

Though I have not had my surgery yet, I was looking to get my Vitamins ahead of time. Problem is, I have no idea what to get. Brand wise, price wise, what is the best? Those of you that are Post-OP....what are you taking? Where did you get them? My doctor can't burn it into my brain enough that after my surgery I need to take VITAMINS VITAMINS VITAMINS!

    Waiting sucks!

My husband and I are saving a lot of time doing this together so our appointments are together but man is it taking forever. We started this process in December. We are about 95% of the way done by April 15th...hopefully. Since we are doing this together and we are each others support person, we have to have our surgeries a month apart. I won't have mine til JULY. Jumping through the insurance hoops and waiting is the worst

    Who Are You?

My name is Brittany! My husband and I are doing this surgery together and we are so very excited to get this life change going. We are about 90% of the way done with our Pre-Surgery stuff since we are going through our insurance. I have 100lbs to lose and my husband about 250lbs to lose and seriously...WE CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER. Its exciting to think that this is our new life. For us, for our son, for our future kids. So hello from the Atchley's in Northern California!

    First appointments finally scheduled...

My husband and I decided to do this together after I had gone with him to the seminar as his support system. We have done everything together, our appointments, our meetings...everything. The appointments aren't bad at all, the psychologist was interesting but we got through it all in one day and thank goodness that it's done with. I'm not sure what yours will be like since you're in a different state, but as soon as you start getting these appointments behind you, its a relief. Have they told you if you needed a sleep test? That's something you might want to check on. Our insurance is Anthem Blue Cross and my husband NEEDS to have a sleep test in order to have his surgery. I do not. Do you have to have any weight management classes?
