shannabonana reacted to Miss Mac in How long after surgery could you tolerate meat?
As soon as I went to soft foods ( 4 weeks) I could have any of that if it was very moist. Fish was the hardest to eat. At six weeks I had the go-ahead for regular cooked foods and moderate spices. Just make sure that the meat is soft and moist, not dry. Eat small bites....chew well.....you know the deal. The hardest thing for me to add back was raw foods like apples, cole slaw, lettuce.....those things took all of six months - but I can eat that stuff too, now at 13 months.

was able to get some fluids down yesterday. about 20 oz maybe which is a major improvement. Been waiting for days to get EGD today so surgeon can see whats going on, but they said this morning since I got some fluids down yesterday, they may want to wait a couple days to see how it goes. Being treated for H Pylori. But no harm in doing EGD. Id hate to wait again only to have to have it. I rather have peace of mind after a scope. So we will see. My wife comes here for her bypass tomorrow morning at 5am. I am seeing if they will let me go down to OR waiting room tomorrow morning. Making it tough as I wasn't supposed to be sick and would take her to surgery and be there but Im in here too,

I absolutely could not tolerate Water at all for the first 3 weeks for some reason! It felt "hard" when it landed in my new tummy for some reason. Things that worked better for me were G2 gatoraide, broth, crystal light, tea, and apple juice. I found that room temperature and hot liquids went down easier too. Even now almost 3 months out I still prefer room temperature which is crazy because I used to be queen of the ice cubes! lol... Hang in there.. you didn't make a mistake.. you will get through this and find things that work for you and this will be a fabulous journey!
