    Depression after the Gastric Sleeve

Great to hear the blues are better, Tink! And I envy the weight loss progress. I'm 5 weeks out and a little sad over the change in my relationship with food. I love to cook, used to love to eat, but not enjoying the process of eating much. I miss enjoying food. Does that sound weird? Plus, I've had some stalls, making it seem even sadder ( all this for what?) Trying to focus on the joy of my pants falling down.

    2 week diet before surgery

I'm wondering why you didn't do the pre surgery diet? Some of us were not required to by our program, but had other requirements ( my pre surgery diet was just the day before, BUT I'd had to lose 16 lbs before they would even schedule my surgery). There are very strict dietary rules you will have to follow after surgery: some for weeks, some for the rest of your life. If that's not a commitment you are able or ready or willing to make, this may not be the right time for surgery. Please talk to your surgeon.
  3. Good luck, see you on the slim side. It will be ok.
  4. Relax, you will not be eaten by a bear. Breathe, sweetie.

A single doughnut almost broke me

You ate a donut. Move on. I'm not mocking or making light of it - stuff happens! If you then eat 4 more donuts, we've got a problem, Houston. After your surgery there are going to be times when you eat the wrong thing, or too fast or too much. The benefit (?!) is, there will be a physical, negative consequence, either cramping or vomiting or something to reinforce good choices. Right now you are learning to do that without surgery. You're doing great, don't be so hard on yourself - I like the way ^ phrased it, compassion + accountability.
  7. @@CrissyBat, sleeved on April 1. Better today. I'm not body hungry as much as mind hungry. Wishing everything did not feel like a sloshing cold wave in my gut. Warm liquids do feel better, and savory things are such a treat. I know hummus and bisque are a bit of a stretch but I'm doing mouse swallows. Feeling better every day. Seeing the numbers change on the scale will help. I keep looking at pretty outfits on Pinterest for motivation. Scheduling follow up appointments with the docs, nut, etc this am. Taking care of me once everyone else heads off to school/work. Be nice to yourselves ladies!
  8. Hi April I peeps, ( sorry to mention peeps on Easter Sunday, because it isn't difficult enough..) So today I have sucked on, then spit out., homemade Mac and cheese shells and maple glazed ham, that I made for the fam. Not my proudest moments, but mildly satisfying. The family left the dishes for me to do - Ive already discussed that last part with husband and teen daughters... I have burped down two Mexican chocolate shakes (chocolate Pure Protein, cinnamon and a little extra unsweetened cocoa, ole') a chobani yogurt and not enough Water but the night is young. I may still rinse my mouth with the hummus, lobster bisque or cream of mushroom Soup I've got squirreled away for taste/texture emergencies. Not the cheeriest sleever, but we can do anything for a few weeks, right?

    Any April Sleevers?

@@Carmen606, how are you doing? @@tee1463, you and me both, Tee! We got this.
  10. Hi everyone. SO wish I had thought of a massage and facial, what a great idea. Laundry is done, house is vacuumed, food shopping is done. I am finishing (OK, starting) a report for work that I will probably finish tonight after everyone has gone to bed. Headache from the liquids only today, punishment for what I ate yesterday after getting the final all-clear from the surgeon (no two week prep diet, just day before for this program, but I have been living on photos of food and sunbeams for a week trying to stay at goal) I've been doing yogurt for Breakfast, shake for lunch, small meal for dinner for 3 weeks, so I didn't think all liquids today would be bad, but yesterday's food funeral and today's anxiety are a smack in the head. One moment of second thoughts today, first time in the whole 6 month process, but reasonable I guess, and fleeting. I got a few summer clothing catalogues in the mail today and will flip through them later, dreaming of pretty new clothes for motivation. A home mani, a little time with my girls and hubs will chase the clouds away I'm sure. We'll put the youngest one on the bus at 7:30 and then head to the hospital for my 8:30 curtain call, surgery at 10:30, dancing down the halls by 3pm? Here's hoping. You guys have been a lovely source of support, thank you. See you on the slim side!
  11. Next time label it 'breast milk' or 'goat milk' or better, 'urine sample'. Maybe if you get a cute, zippered opaque lunch bag?

    Weight management class

Hi, welcome! Every program is different, but it isn't about fat shaming (or shouldn't be - if you get that attitude, turn and walk away and find another program!) Most successful programs require some combination of counseling and education to understand in ourselves why we eat the way we do, how to prepare for the changes after surgery, etc. Breathe, settle in and ask questions.

Yay! Glad it went pretty well. Now you are off on your adventure - I'm jealous!

    Starting My Ten Days Tomorrow

Hi, I'm April1 also. You sound like you have done your homework and have a great support team. I had a 6 month diet as part of the program so no specific pre-op but I have most of my post op shopping done. Some great recipes on Pinterest for breakfast egg mini muffins so I picked up some silicone muffin pans today so I can get some in the freezer. I may do a little cooking for the family before hand too in case I'm not up for whipping up dinner. Getting excited more than anxious. Ok, a little anxious, but who isn't before an adventure?

I just noticed you're from CT! I'm in NH for 27 years, but from CT! Where are you?

    Any April Sleevers?

My doc doesn't require the two week preop diet. I had to lose 10% of my excess weight, which I've done over the past 6 months. As if taking 6 months to lose 16 lbs isn't evidence enough that I need this surgery if I am going to lose this weight before I am 103! I am doing shakes for two meals a day now to get ready and trying to lose a few more lbs before surgery ( she is very strict - wont operate if I'm any higher than goal. Trying to avoid food funerals but I have 2 dinners out this weekend. I may end up going all liquid next week just in case. Have you started the two week prep? How is it going for you?

    Any April Sleevers?

Oh no you aren't! I'm in 4/1 too, maybe we can fool that fat right off. That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

    Surgery Prep

Shell88, love that last comment, just the valuable info I turn to this group for! Txfirefly979, it occurs to me you are in surgery right now - sending you happy thoughts!
  20. The psychologists who taught our 6 preop behavior classes called this 'Last Supper Syndrome'. I am coming up on surgery (4/1) and found myself morning some kettle chips the other day, like I was putting down a beloved pet. Then I put my hand on my least favorite body part and remembered what I hope to accomplish. I still mourned the chips, but I won't mourn the hips when they slim down.

    Preop diet

My program required a percentage weight loss under the supervision of the nutritionist over several months, but no special diet immediately before surgery (April 1!!). Follow whatever directions your doc gives you, and you'll be fine.

    Any April Sleevers?

I'm scheduled for April 1! April fools Day? Yikes. Here's hoping my surgeon isn't a prankster and rearranges things so that my arm flies up every time I burp or something.

    Depression after the Gastric Sleeve

Got my date, 4/1, and I am excited but wanted to thank you guys for being candid about feeling depressed. I've gotten myself pretty pumped up for the good parts, but dealing with the downsides is when I'm most likely to eat badly. Reading your posts is a good dope slap that it isn't all a happy dance off the scale every day. The skin issues have me most freaked out, but how could these dramatic changes NOT mess with metabolism/mood/ chemistry? And facing things without an edible security blanket? A lot to deal with. BigTink and DownDiva, do you have access to any support services at the surgical center? Or did you travel for your surgery? You can't possibly be the first to have felt this.

    Depression after the Gastric Sleeve

That must be upsetting. I'm on the on ramp for menopause and having memory issues, names especially ("Honey, who was that guy, he was in that movies, you know, with that other guy?") You're doing great with the weight loss though. Good news/bad news?
