  1. @@dadempsey - I'm the same, lack of exercise & portion control. I did the math for myself & think I'll finish my six month appts on May 21. By the time its submitted to insurance & approved, two week preop diet, preop appt & two day liquid diet; I'm predicting June 18 surgery. It will be interesting how close I am! Good luck on your journey! :-)
  2. I'm tracking my meals on MyFitnessPal.com. Are you using something like this to track what you eat? If not, maybe this will help you find your balance. Hope this helps!!

    6 Month Motivated Attempt

I hear ya! At least you only have four more weeks! I have three more months! Praying it goes quick! Good luck!!
  4. Hi Mel! Welcome! If you've been doing WW since 2011 - you probably won't need to have any Dr. supervised weight loss appts! Lucky you! Keep us posted on when you get your surgery date. I'll be finished with my supervised appts. in May so I'm really hoping to be sleeved in June! Have a good weekend!

    Big Binder of BS

I have United Healthcare too, and Optum didn't send me any forms to fill out. She didn't even mention any forms either. The only thing she sent me was brochures on weight loss surgery, and told me about a few websites that would be beneficial to help me eat better, and another that provides great info on WLS. When I went to my initial weight loss seminar - they gave me a big binder of information about WLS, and I had several forms to fill out with that - that I turned in with my first appt. with my surgeon. I read on another post about you having to do the six month supervised visits. Tomorrow I'll be half way through mine. I thought this was going to take forever, but actually, it's going pretty quick! I've been busy with appointments - cardiologist had me do three appts. before I got his clearance, I have my supervised appts. and will complete my psych eval appts. next Tuesday. I have one group session I have to complete too, which I'm doing the first Saturday of March. So after that - I'll only have three more supervised visits and will be waiting for my surgery date! Good luck on your journey, and I hope it goes fast for you!
  7. After this Thursday, I have 3 more weigh-ins too! My last appt. will be in May. By that time I'll have all my required prerequisites done! My NP told me that once everything is completed they'll submit the pre authorization for surgery to my insurance, and once it's approved, they'll call me back to schedule my pre-op appt. and said that that will take approximately four hours - plan on taking the day off. Good luck with your sleeve! And keep us posted on how well you're doing!
  8. My husband kept telling me to get rid of the clothes in our closet that no longer fit me. I just couldn't bare to part with them! It will be such a joy to get rid of all the "fat Lorrie clothing" - knowing I'll never go back there again!! I can't wait for the day when I'll be able to shop in the Women's section, they have such a selection of cute clothes to chose from! Shopping is going to be fun again!!!
  9. @@mykdzmom My PCP referred me to my cardiologist. I had a chest xray & an echocardiogram before I got clearance.
  10. Thanks! :-) I'll take a look at that one too!
  11. Welcome Vicki!! I'm half way through my six month wait! My third appointment is next week and it seems like the first three months have gone really fast! I've been doing a lot to prep myself for surgery by watching YouTube videos, reading blogs, and this board is a big help! Everyone has been so nice and have always provided good advice! And - I purchased The BIG Book on the Gastric Sleeve - downloaded it to my iPad. I just started reading it last night. So I'm hoping that this will help pass some more time!
  12. Congrats! freddy8_8! I wish I had my date! I'm still playing "the waiting game!" I'm hoping it will be in June!
  13. Good idea @@Seahawkgirl! I've been married for 34 years to my wonderful husband, and we have three grown children. Two boys - 32 & 30 and my daughter - 27. I have seven grandchildren ranging in ages from 11 yrs - 5 yrs old. I've lived in Iowa pretty much all of my life. And I'll be 54 next month. Oh! And... @mykidzmom - I purchased The Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve last night! I read the first few chapters last night, and it's really interesting so far! @@Seahawkgirl - what was the other book you downloaded? Let me know if it's a good read!

    Schedule appt for surgery

It is, but wouldn't be better to ask those "who have been through the surgery?" That's what I would do. (Just trying to be helpful).
  15. That's totally understandable! I'd do the same thing if I were in your shoes! I live 35 miles south of where I work, so I commute everyday using a vanpool called Rideshare. My WLC is a few miles west of where I work so on days I have an appt. I drive myself to work and go to my appt. I joined Optum, because that was a requirement under my UHC coverage for bariatric surgery. My healthcare is covered by my employer, so that's probably why I had to join.
  16. Sad Hatter - I have United Healthcare too. I'm meeting each month with the dietician, and other members of my bariatric team. I thought it was going long and drawn out, but was pleasantly surprised when I met with my dietician for the first time last month. They counted my appointment with my surgeon as the first visit. So I completed two of those appointments in January! I would recommend you do complete appointments - they'll weigh you at the very beginning, and you learn a lot from speaking to each of the staff! My third appointment is next week - and I'm excited to be halfway done! I'm really surprised how fast all of this is going! As a requirement with UHC I also had to set up appointments with a bariatric case nurse from Optum. I'm not sure if that's something they require of you, but I've spoken to her once, and she's offered lots of good information. My next appt. with her is in May. I hope this is helpful!
  17. I am the same way! I've been trying to pass the time by looking at YouTube videos - I've learned a lot from other people's video diaries who've had the sleeve done. Reading this forum has been really helpful! I'm thinking about buying the Big Book of Sleeve for my iPad. It will give me something else to do to pass the time, is anyone else thinking of buying it?

    The guilt of not telling

As the old saying goes - "some things are better off left unsaid" It's understandable why you wouldn't want to tell your grandmother. Sending you well wishes, and a speedy recovery!!

    EGD?

My surgeon tests for H. pylori with a breath test. So my guess is I don't need to have one. It's not on my list of requirements.

    Schedule appt for surgery

You probably should of posted this on the post op forum. Good luck with your surgery! I have at least three more months or more before I find out my surgery date! It can't get here soon enough!

    Feb 18 is here!

Best wishes on your new journey!
  22. I won't miss seeing that big butt or stomach of mine in the mirror! No more back aches! No more knee pain! Especially when I want to go on a walk with my husband! I will no longer get winded from just walking, and will be able to walk farther than normal without having to sit down! Using the stairs again and not getting winded... Reversing sleep apnea - hypertension - pre diabetes I'll be able to sit comfortably at concerts, and can ditch the seat belt extender when I go on flights in the future! I'll be able to do something my husband has asked me to do for several months now! Get rid of the clothes that I can no longer wear! (And it won't be my skinnier clothes that I'll be getting rid of)! Well.... maybe - because they'll be getting too big to wear - which leads to... SHOPPING! I'll be able to shop in the Women's department, and not Plus Size. I'll have more of a selection of clothing to chose from! And most of all - liking myself again!
