    My Surgery is on Thursday!

Good luck today ladies!! Wishing all of you a speedy recovery! Check back in and let us know how you're doing!!
  5. I would call your insurance provider and find out what their requirements are. My insurance requires me to do a six-month doctor supervised weight loss program. Your insurance provider should be able to answer all of your questions you have. Good luck on your journey! :-)
  6. Welcome dandylion_23! I have United Healthcare, and they require me to do the six month doctor supervised visits. I'm almost done! When I met with my surgeon, she gave me a list of requirements to complete before she approves me for surgery. I had to make an appointment with a cardiologist - who ordered a chest x-ray, Calcium score, and an electrocardiogram. I passed all three, and received clearance from him. I was also required to have a psych evaluation - (two appts. later and he cleared me for surgery). And I also had to attend at least one group session that's offered by my weight loss clinic. Done that! Next week I'll have my fifth supervised visit, and next month will be my last, and they'll submit it to insurance for approval. Every surgeon is different, but he will probably give you a list of items that will have to be completed prior to your surgeon scheduling your surgery. Good luck with everything!

    6 Month Pre-op Diet

Next week will be # 5 of 6 for me! Since I started my 6 mo doctor supervised diet - it's opened my eyes on how to eat better! I try make my meals a well balanced meal - (which I never did before) and watch my portion sizes. I've completely cut out junk food, and have weaned myself off of caffeine. I'm taking the weight off slowly. I weighed myself on my bathroom scale this morning and I'm down 15 lbs since January. The best piece of advise I can give you is - if they required a food diary from you - use MyFitnessPal.com! I print off my monthly diary of food & exercise to take with me for each appointment. That way my NUT can see that I'm staying on track and it makes it easy for her to provide me suggestions on things I need to change in my diet.

    My Surgery is on Thursday!

Good luck to all of you this week!! I wish I was right there with you, but still have over a month to go before I get my date with my surgeon... I'm getting antsy!!
  10. I'm so nervous!! I have my fifth appointment next week, and my sixth and final doctor supervised weight loss appointment next month. I hope by the time everything is said and done, I'm a June sleever, and not a July sleever! I wish they would make my sixth appointment my pre-op appt. so that way I could get the ball rolling to get this done!

@@MrsB2007 I had two appointments in January (first one with my surgeon, and my second one with my NUT) which counted for my first & second weight loss appts. I have UHC which requires six - doctor supervised weight loss appointments. So May will be my sixth one and they'll submit it to insurance for approval.

    Possible sleep apnea?

@@Hoven I feel for you! I had deviated septum several years ago, and had numerous sinus infections because of it. I had surgery to correct it, and now I rarely have any problems. I couldn't breathe out of the left side of my nose, so I know exactly what you're going through! Good luck with your surgery! I'm hoping my WLS will help me to ditch my bipap soon!! Take care!!

    Possible sleep apnea?

@@Hoven - I have the same problem!! I had the nose mask to begin with, and felt claustrophobic when I wore it, so I switched to the nasal pillow. It's less evasive on my face, & I'm tolerating it a little better. I'm averaging about 5 - 6 hours of sleep a night. If you're not using a nasal pillow, you might give it a try!
  14. I have UHC too, and thought the same thing. Six months is going to take forever!! In two weeks I'll have my 5th weigh in. One more month, and they will be submitting it to insurance for approval! I had to schedule an appt. with a cardiologist - who required three tests. Had two psych appointments, a sleep study, pulmonary appt., along with my regularly scheduled doctor supervised appts. With all of these appointments, time has flown by! Trust me - I'm really antsy to get these appointments done! But am taking it one day at a time! I've used a lot of this time to do research on everything from surgery to what Protein drinks to buy. This time has helped me to focus on eating right, I've cut out a lot of junk food, and have even got my husband wanting to eat healthier! And you can't go wrong being on this forum! Everyone on this site have been so great with any questions I have had! I've learned so much!
  15. That's awesome! Congrats!!

    Feeling Frustrated!

Thanks for posting this question!! I'm only down 11 lbs since Jan. 13th - (my initial visit with my surgeon). I have to do six month supervised... Last month I only lost 2 lbs. and was kicking myself for it! Gaining weight during this six month trial scares me!
  17. @SeahawksGirl I respect what your friend cares a great deal about you, and is probably concerned about your overall health after your surgery. But I feel that you need to educate her a little further. Tell her what you have learned in your three years of research, and let her know that you're doing this for yourself, and let her know that it would benefit you more if she offered you her support. It would fill the void that you're feeling. I think a heart to heart talk (not text) will help you and her, and hope strengthen your friendship! Good luck to you, and know that you have our support on this board!

I have UHC and am in the process of getting through my six month doctor supervised visits. I started in January, and next month will be my sixth appointment. I can't believe it!! Every surgeon requirements are different. But I had to be cleared by a cardiologist - (three tests), two psych appointments, sleep study, as well as my six month NP/NUT appointments. I was so busy with all of these appointments - time just flew by! Since I began this journey, these six months have been a blessing! It's given me time to research everything from surgery to Protein drinks and what Vitamins to take! Plus I can't begin to tell you what wealth of information you'll receive from the great bunch of people on this site! Everyone has been so welcoming, and have shared their experiences so that us newbies can learn from!
  19. Checking in too! Welcome to all the new June sleevers! Two more Dr. supervised weight loss appointments, and they'll be submitting my case to insurance for approval!! How time flies! I'm starting to get antsy! Is anyone else getting antsy??
