  1. Yayyyyyy just talked to insurance and they said it is only $25.00 lol !!!!!!!!!
  2. Yes, they approved it. I guess I was naive !! I just need to calm down and get over my anxiety before I call them.. And maybe have a sip of wine lol.
  3. I know!! When I had my initial appointment, they asked what insurance I have and when I told them, they said my insurance always authorizes the surgery which led me to believe they would pay for it !! And no one has ever mentioned it before now. It's just so frustrating and making me feel so defeated. Well, if nothing else, maybe I will lose some weight since I have absolutely no appetite now!! Lol

    Surgery and Acrylic nails..

Yes definitely ask because every hospital is different, my doctor said no polish or acrylics.

    Surgery and Acrylic nails..

They ask you to remove nail polish and 'fake nails'l because they use pulse oximetry to monitor your oxygen saturation levels and the probe reads through your nail bed. Hope that helps

    Catheters

So sorry that you got a UTI- unfortunately that is definitely a side effect for some. Did you have the catheter in a long time ? Usually the longer the cath is in, the higher the risk of infection. From what I understand, the catheter is only in a day or so. I have only had a Foley once for my C-section and I was soooooo glad I had it in for the 2 days that I had it!! I didn't even feel it ( which could have had something to do with the epidural narcotics that lasted 24 hours lol) but once I had to get up to go, it was so painful to sit up! I totally missed my catheter lol . Well, not really but it was a huge help!! I hope they can find a way to help meet your needs and wishes- if you feel strongly about it, make sure they understand it and hear your concerns!! You deserve to be taken care of !!!

    Catheters

By the way, I could be completely wrong about this because I have been out of the field for the last 3 years and you know how medical technology changes!! Lol

    Catheters

They will normally place the Foley catheter in after you are put asleep. In my experience, unless you have a mature track; a supra-pubic catheter is a procedure that needs to be done by a doctor, not a routine procedure done by a nurse. Therefore you would need insurance approval to proceed. I used to work as an Interventional Radiology nurse, and our radiologist used to place them under fluoroscopy/imaging using sedation. Hope this helps- did you have a bad experience with catheters before?

  13. Hey!! Just wondering if there is anyone else who is a type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump. Just wondering how they handle your insulin. I am getting all the testing done now, but the only thing that is reading me out is the risk of severe hypoglycemia. Just wondering if anyone else has been thru this. ????

    Type 1 diabetics

Mommyonamission- Hey!!! Thanks so much for replying!! So nice to have someone else who will be going through similar issues like me. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a week after my 6th birthday- so most of my life!! Sorry to hear about the cardiac issues- hopefully it will turn out to be nothing ! ( fingers crossed! ) I will be starting my appointments on Monday- Nutrition class and then I am going to attend a support group meeting Tuesday night. Then the next week will be US, PCP, and Psych. I am relatively new to this area so I have only seen my Endo a few times- and he's not a very 'warm and fuzzy' type person so this should be interesting! Hopefully I can work with his Diabetic Educator for most of the adjustments. I have met with the surgeon a couple times and he is really nice!!! The strange thing was that I never even thought about WLS because I have read that they rarely do it on type 1 diabetics! I called to make an appointment and they asked me if I want medical or surgical- I told them I am type 1 and she said they do type 1's all the time!! So mid-Jan, I met with the surgeon and here I am!! I would love to be 'buddies' since we will be going thru this around the same time- and both have toddlers!!! We can 'vent' to each other lol

    So it begins !

Thanks everyone !!! So great to have others to chat and share with!! I am learning so much from all of you!! Thanks so much !!
  16. Just got all of my appointments scheduled!! All within a 2 week period !! Going to be a whirlwind ! The surgery coordinator said that my insurance does not require a medic weight management program prior to surgery- she said she is still anticipating a surgery date within the next 30-45 days!! I can't believe how fast this is all happening!! I went to the weight management center in January to discuss medical weight management and now here I am!! Sort of nervous and excited at the same time !!

    Insurance

I have had 2 appointments with the surgeon at this point. I spoke with the surgical coordinator and she said she was going to schedule all the required tests- labs, psych, US of gallbladder, nutritionist and exercise therapist. I have Tricare Standard and she said they never have a problem with approval for Bypass- the coordinator shocked me when I asked how long the process takes and she said of the tests all get done, she can schedules by the end of Feb!! I was not expecting that- I am just waiting for the curve ball from the insurance company.
