Never heard of him. Bariatricfacts.com has a list of really the only reputable vetted surgeons. Hope that helps!

KShingler82 reacted to ShellMilliner in Newbie Here - Hello!
That's awesome and exactly what I'm hoping for. When I went back and chatted with the office I did confirm that I am having the SADI procedure. Given the procedure takes a little less time, I hope the recovery is a bit easier!
I'd like to be back to work after 2 weeks, I have a job that is mostly spent at my desk.
Thank you for your reply!

My surgeon called me back today, said he has no problem doing a traditional DS on me and he will see me at pre-op! =)

My surgery was Friday 02/20. I stayed in the hospital that night and the next night. Came home Sunday morning. I had trouble keeping my pain meds down. My surgery lasted about 5 hours so I have a TON on air/gas to get rid of. Overall 3rd day out I'm feeling/doing great. 40oz of Water and 60g Protein and its 5:15 pm. I chose not to have the sadi-s/loop for personal reasons. There are no long term studies and I didn't want to go through surgery again if that turns out to be a flop also the bile reflux did not sound appealing to me at all and how you must defy gravity for the procedure to work correctly. Its everyone's personal choice to make. I did only take 2 weeks off work and from what i hear from other ds'ers downtime for most is a week or so. My common channel is 100. Glad your feeling well!

The gas pain( not in the belly but in the chest) was awful! I went in to my initial consult thinking I was going to do a switch, but since I don't have a ton of weight to lose, I liked the idea of a more moderate operation, with less complications and the long term benefits of the DS like very low incidence of weight regain. If it weren't available, I would have done the traditional operation. I read the studies from France and Spain, and Australia, where the single anastomosis operation has been the more common for several years, and I was comfortable with the outcomes. I also kind of like it that if I do end up with some kind of severe malnutrition, the modification operation is quick and easy. I wouldn't judge anybody else's choice. I just gave mine. Since our surgey dates are virtually the same, let's keep in touch and see if we can be helpful to each other. Almost everybody around here is doing a sleeve, so it's a really different animal.

KShingler82 reacted to RoseSA in Introduction
Hi everyone, I am new to the group. My name is Rosemary Mann and I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am having a BPD-DS on the 23rd Feb. I'm not new to WLS. I had a band fitted 5 years ago and initially things went well. However, after my first fill a bacteria had sneaked into the port area. After several more surgical procedures to drain abscesses that formed the band was removed and I was left with an open wound for about 6 months thereafter. What went wrong? Well I don't think I did my homework, the surgeon was not professional and the after care was non existent.
After 5 years I have plucked up the courage to give it another go. But, this time I have done an enormous amount of research, I am working with a centre of excellence under the guidance of one of the leading endocrinologists in the world, Prof. Tess Van der Merwe and I am ready for this journey.
I look forward to reading about everyone's experiences.

Met with my new Dr today, what a difference!!! Met Dr. Sharma, and he is brilliant, as well as very personable. With surgeons, you normally don't get both. I start my final diet tomorrow - gotta shrink that liver, then I will be switched. Yea!?

Yes, day 4 of liquid diet. I am just getting the hang of it now. I had a rough go with the Protein Shakes. I just drink the muscle milk.

You read it as hypersensitive and prickly because you fail to understand that bad advice can be lethal.
I make sure my comments are ONLY on the DS forum and are to DS patients because that is my experience and my focus.
The number one cause of death in Bariatric patients is failure to follow guidelines for their surgery. Do you want to be the one that gives bad advice that leads to someones death? I don't. I'll be hypervigilant as long as people insist on giving out dangerous advice. I'm saving lives. What are you doing?

Chia seeds are not recommended whole for the Doudenal Switch as they won't stay in your gut !ong enough to be converted into useable fiber to affect constipation. And may actually compound the problem.
The DS needs its own website to avoid BAD advice from the other surgery patients.

Great News! It looks like the fat content is working the magic! I have been above 110 grams for the past few days and all is moving again. Unfortunately now I am dealing with a thrombosed hemorrhoid that is a result of the Constipation I assume. Hopefully this will be over soon!

I understand that you are trying to be helpful but Water intake will not help someone that has the DS and is constipated. And raisin bran isn't advised because of the carb content. The only cure is increasing fat intake.
Use caution when giving out advice. The Duodenal Switch is totally different than all other weightloss surgeries. And bad advice can be lethal.

I took everyone's advice and checked out the Facebook groups and re-evaluated my diet plans based on veterans of the surgery. Yesterday I finished with 148 grams of fat, 110 grams of Protein, and 21 carbs. I have not been to the bathroom yet, but I can say there is a lot of activity in there this morning! Thanks again for all the advice

laxatives are not a long-term solution for a DS patient. Increased fat consumption is the only answer.
I know y'all are just trying to be helpful but the DS is different than all other WLS and you're non DS advice can be harmful. The though is nice but dangerou .
