  1. Basically don't have any follow up with my team after 3 weeks and I'm 6 weeks out. Wondering - when could you eat crunchy salad and vegatables?
  2. I'm 5 weeks out. No problems with food but fluids nauseate me. 32 ounces a day is my max. Also about 50 grams of protein. I have multiple food allergies which make so hard. Highly allergic to soy, wheat, sea salt so almost all protein shakes and protein bars are out. This is very difficult because salad was what I ate prior to surgery with fat free cheese which only has 2 grams of protein per slice. I guess I probably only got 10 grams of protein per day prior to surgery my whole life since I ate mostly vegatables and it is very annoying eating all things I don't like now to force eat protein!!

    Resume omeprazole anyone?

@@Sleevilicious My surgeon never took me off my Omeprazole 40 mg twice a day. The Gastric Sleeve generally is known for making GERD worse in most cases.
  6. Lost another pound today 198# My losing streak is back✨✨‼‼
  7. So I went back on my Metformin and lo and behold I lost the first weight since my surgery! I broke 200 pounds too! So happy!!
  8. So I've been on the forums lately about not losing any weight since my sleeve - in fact I've gained 2 pounds. Well I think I may have an idea. My surgeon discontinued my Metformin which I have been on for years cold turkey the day before my surgery. As an RN I wasn't comfortable with this but followed his orders. I questioned him about it at my 2 week post op visit and he asked me if I had been checking my sugars. I reminded him AGAIN that I don't even own a glucometer because my HbA1C has been 5.8% on Metformin. He just laughed and said see I cured you - he hasn'd done any labs or glucometer checks of my sugar. My PCP prescribed my Metformin. So I've put in a call requsting to restart my Metformin. I don't feel well , my metabolism is out if whack and frankly I have no confidence in him at all. He was the only Bariatric surgeon in my area on Lynne insurance plan. My NUT just trys to sell me vitamins and protein powder when I go that's it. I think I may just follow up with my PCP The surgeon only wants to see me one more time at 3 months anyway. Can you believe he didn't even examine my wound's until I insisted!!

    Metformin after Sleeve?

@@lynneanne WARNING, WARNING, WARNING long post, grab a glass of Water sorry you've haven't lost weight since WLS I do relate to how you must feel not that this helps much, but there are other people in similar situations not loosing weight (even gaining) YOU are the RN, so what i say is from a laymen who is 3+ years WLS. 2+ years GOAL maintaining 105 lb weight loss (little fluctuation) One very healthy, happy camper!! "don't feel well , metabolism out if whack and no confidence in him at all (surgeon)" I'm not the RN like you, (not being sarcastic) but i don't think the metformin in this case is the culprit of how you feel your tummy has gone through major surgery surgery also would/can effect your whole body making it sore/tired My A1C was a little lower pre-op than yours PCP told me to stop taking my diabetes meds (avadian), high blood pressure meds and using my CPAP one day after surgery I also questioned how could we do this so quickly. he said something like these problems should improve quickly after surgery in two weeks - follow up appt - blood pressure considerably down finger stick # lower than i have ever seen, and i hadn't been wearing my CPAP i saw him 2 weeks later after blood work A1C was down to 5.1 - blood pressure was good too no problems at night without CPAP another follow-up two weeks later - blood pressure was down further testing sugars - they continued to be great, wasn't missing CPAP as far as your surgeon............... he doesn't sound good to me earlier post you said he didn't want to check your incision area til you pushed him if there is a question that a surgeon needs to help you with - of course call him you asked in an earlier post if you should just see your PCP only - i vote YES you/me/others should/need to have confidence in their surgeon, be comfortable feel better don't give in/up hopefully things will improve soon good luck kathy Thanks so much!! I called my surgeons office and his receptionist called le back - that's right not even the nurse with the message " go ahead and take your Metformin". So I am. No labs, no consult, no rational from WLS. I have gone to my PCP for 20 years. I believe he can handle my concerns that aren't specifically surgical complication related from here on out.
  10. Right after surgery - 3 days I had lost 5 pounds. This was still from my pre-op diet I believe because it was the first time I had weighed in 3 days and I had been losing 15 pounds a month thus whole year. Now it has been 31/2 weeks since my surgery and I have ACTUALLY GAINED 2 POUNDS!! I am on liquids only and walking. I would have lost 10 pounds by now without the surgery!!!!! Hate this!!!!
  11. @@Babbs @@Inner Surfer Girl @@ShellMilliner I am meeting my water and protein goals. My waist is back to measuring what it was 20 pounds heavier but I figure that is swelling from surgery. I did see my NUT and surgeon Friday, they don't have any explanation for me just come back in a month. My NUT just trys to sell me vitamins and protein powder every time I go. I could stay off the scale that is probably sound advice. I know I won't follow it though lol! I just can't believe I had weight losssurgery and it stopped my weight loss. I am becoming seriously depressed.
  12. I am so discusted! I had my sleeve April 24th and was home morning of April 25 th. My IV was out evening of the 24th. I have not lost any weight except for the 4.5 pounds I lost in the first few days after surgery. Prior to surgery I was losing 15 pounds a month. I saw my surgeon and NUT yesterday and they could offer no explanation! Totally regret my sleeve!
  13. My first post op visit with my surgeon is Thursday 2 weeks since my sleeve. Curious- how often if ever will I be following up with him again?
  14. At this stage - only a little over a week post op I'm only on liquids but I'm curious. Does your MD also recommend 30 minutes before and after food before you can have liquids?
  15. Come on guys, I was doing way better than this BEFORE my surgery! And I only had IV fluids @80ml hour for 12 hours so I'm not in fluid overload. I'm only drinking clear liquids, my bowels are moving fine now, I'm off the pain meds except Tylenol. As an RN I can't think of a rational medical reason for this! I am walking, not sedentary I've given the starvation mode theory some thought but lost like a boss on the pre op liquids!
  16. p.s. I has lost 2 more pounds briefly one morning but it was right back up the next!

Aetna with BMI less than 40

Thank You Lynneanne. My physician and I are working on getting all the data together. Part of the difficulty I have at the moment is that I am living in Australia as an ex-pat, and my records are in the U.S. I have gotten part of them and working getting the rest of them sent via e-mail over. We plan to submit the request with research backing up the request, along with the data that I have of my lab work previously which demonstrates improvement with weight loss. I am just hoping they will accept the VLCD weight loss program that I did for over nine months, even though it is out of the two year period they request. Good luck. Just keep picking away at them!!
  18. Some people say they were only "sore" or "uncomfortable" but I had excrutiating , near fainting, unfathomable pain And I have a very high pain thresh hold that has been tested in some pretty gruesome ways prior. So everyones experience is different.
  19. Thats soup with NO pieces lol!! See i'm in a MUCH better mood!!
  20. Just checking in - had my sleeve on the 24th. Not going to lie - it was rough and I was in a VERY bad mood the whole first week. I pretty much hate everybody who says it is just "uncomfortable" and their hunger "instantly disappeared". Still in a moderate amount of pain and all of my arthritis and back issues that helped qualify me for the surgery have been exascerbated by the whole experience. I also hate my surgeon who is the strictest with the clear liquids for 2 weeks then 2 weeks with protein shakes and soup - pieces then pureed for another month! Thats right 2 months before soft food!

Still have your MD submit it with his recommendation that it is medically necessary. What is listed is their guidelines. You never know.
  22. @@RaginCajun That was not a threat lol. Anonymity is sacred lol.
  23. If you're from Franlinton then you have to know my good friend Delicia "Dee Dee" formerly an Ingram. Will not put her current name to protect the innocent and all that. I was a nursing supervisor a Southeast Louisana Hospital so I know everybody! I probably know you!!

    What about sleep apnea?
  25. Your MD is a fast mover lol - NORTHERNERS!! My guy wants me on liquids for a month! Then pureed for a month! I grew up in New Orleans but moved Up North too. The Northshore that is - St. Tammany Parish. I live in the Honey Island Swamp. Pearl River. As Louisianne as you can get Cher. My brother lives in the vast sprawl that is Atlanta and LOVES IT!! We both think the other talks funny. He misses Roast Beef Po Boys and says he can't find the right kind if french bread.I am quite the Nawlins cook but no more for me. If I had butter and garlic I could whip up anything lol! Then I became a great lot fat low carb low sodium chef and lost 42 pounds before my sleeve. My family is in great shape now too. Can' t wait to be off liquids! Sleeved April 24th.
