    ?ctober ?dyssey 2008

Well Hello Pumpkins! I had my surgery on the 9. Down 23 and feel like a lot of you guys. "Why haven't I lost more?." "I don't have enough restriction." "When will I get to my sweet spot?" I had my second fill yesterday and am still thinking about food a lot more than than I think I should be. I really want to get back that wonderful feeling I had for about three weeks after surgery. I felt invincible where food was concerned. I could have cared less. I was able to make good choices without feeling this craving for some unknown food.I WANT THAT BACK! I had this procedure done and paid the money out of my own pocket because I saw the Band as a way of being able to have control over the obsession with food. Thinking about it all of the time. Using it for everything else as well as to nourish my body. I hoped it would let food be what it should be..nourishment not a band-aid for all that ails me. Sorry to be venting and thanks for listening. I am so ready to have this thing work like it is supposed to. I guess I may be over anxious. This isn't bypass. It will take longer and that is one of the reasons I wanted it. I will stop now. Again, Thanks. LindaL

Linda, how was surgery? Hi Bikini. Thanks for your god wishes and checking in with me. Surgery so far as been a breeze. A little discomfort. The gas started some today. Thank Goodness for the heating pad! I removed the QBall (pain pump, kinda) today and no pain doing it at all. I am getting a shower as soon as I go on my walk. I have walked every day since surgery twice yesterday. Right now I am not feeling any hunger. Sure hope it continues! Good luck on your surgery!! LindaL.

Hello All you Pumpkins! I will be joining your ranks tomorrow morning at 6 A.M. Please send up some good thoughts and prayers for me if you would be so kind. I would really appreciate knowing that I had some extra prayer support. I have lost ten pounds in the last two weeks on the pre-op diet and what a difference I feel and see already. Life with out dragging this 100 pounds around with me where ever I go and whatever I am doing will be amazing not mention so much healthier! TTYL Linda from VA>
  7. Hey Jardenia,

So far the pre-op hasn't been too bad. It is pretty amazing that once I got the sugar and carbs out of my system how my hunger or should I say apatite diminished.

As I said I have been researching for years and have learned so much along the way. There is another lap band group that I belong to and really enjoy. It is smartbandsters@yahoo.com. I have also found that everything that is on these boards is not necessarily golden so confirm your facts. There is a very helpful and informative book written by Jessie Ahronni.(sp) She is a lap band nurse and has had her band for ten years so she knows her stuff. I got the book on Amazon. The title is Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding: Achieving Permanant Weight Loss with Minimally Invasive Surgery.

I have had all of my pre-op testing and am counting the days. We are going to spend the night in Richmond on Wednesday the night before surgery and Thursday night the night of surgery. We live beween and hour and an hour and a half away so the Doc said I should stay close the first night since I am a "Drive Thru."

Hope your insurance will cover everything for you and won't require that you jump thru many hoops.

I have done some pics but will wait till there is a decernable difference to post them. I am trying to put my pic on my profile but haven't been able to figure out how to do it yet.

Keep me posted on your progress. Good luck!

    Linda

Hello Apples and all! I too am new to this group. I was rereading your post when it said that you had lost 96 lbs in three months! I was worried also. Glad you clarified that! I too have been "lurking" for sometime and find this group very warm and so supportive of each other. Refreshing and a soft place to fall when you need to. Welcome! Linda
  10. Thanks for getting back to me. Good luck, your day is fast approaching! I am nothing but questions. I went to a seminar here on Sat. I have submitted the info pack as of yesterday and as it so happens some of the test that might be required were already ordered by my PCP and Oncologlist because of some issues I am having. I am 5'2", 240 so the BMI is 44. I guess the next step is a meet with Dr. I starting surfing here to get an idea of how hard this is to do. The pre op deit seems like it might be hard, I understand that each doc can require something different from 1 to 3 weeks. I have Tri Care insurance and don't have any idea of their requirements for nutrition counseling, some companies require 6 months. I just want the first appointment and to get going on this.

I hope you do pics and keep me up dated on how you're doing.

    Thanks again

    Jardenia

Hi Janet, I have been "lurking" for quiet some time now. I really have appreciated your advice and support. It is so inspiring to see your success. Saw the pic for the commercial and just wanted to say that you really look fabulous! The outfit fits to a T and is really a classy! My date is Oct 9. I am both excited for the possibilities and nervous about the surgery. I am self pay so didn't have to jump thru the hoops for the insurance co plus the process has been so much faster. Keep writing. I'll keep readin' Thanks, Linda
  12. Hi Angie, I am having my band placed by Dr. Schroder on Oct 9. I started my pre-op diet today. It is a high protien shake for Breakfast and lunch. Protien and a vegie for dinner adn there are a couple of Snacks such as baby carrots, ff cottage cheese and light yogurt. I have heard that is is not too bad but I guess I will see. The hospital is a Center of Excellence and specializes in Bariactric surgery. Dr. Schroder and Bregman have really great reputations. You can read reviews on them on the obesityhelp website. Some of the office staff can be a disorganized at times but just keep on them. I know it is not supposed to be our job but it does seem that is how it is today. I have been researching this since 2002 and am now finally going forward withit cause I have not been successful doing it myself. Good luck on your journey. I will be happy to share my experiences with you as I go along if you like. Linda

    Mental failure/self disappointment

Hi Jessica, I am to be banded on October 9 so I can't speak from first hand experience just yet. However, everything I have read during my extensive research and reading all of the extremely informative posts on these boards it would seem like you are being very hard on yourself. Your accomplishment is quite impressive and all WITHOUT A FILL??!! It sounds like you have challenged yourself to loose the weight without a fill. While that is a real test of your willpower and determination and kudos to you if you can do it, don't beat yourself up if you do decide that you want one. Using your tool ( the Band) is not an indication of weakness. Remember, obesity is a disease not a character flaw. The band is our medicine we can use to help control it. Hugs, Linda

    Help in VA

Hi Lisa, I haven't had my surgery yet but I went to a seminar at St. Mary's hospital in Richmond yesterday. The group is Richmond Surgical Group. They are a Center of Excellence and do more bands in Va. than anyone else. I was very impressed by Dr. Bregman who gave the seminar. He said he had done 700 bands himself and says that the proceedure takes about 30 minutes or less. He was recommended by Suzanne, another member of Lapband Talk. I have my initial appointment with him on Monday and am really excited. :lovechoc: If you woukd like to find out more about Dr. Bregman his number is 804-285-4133. Good luck to you and maybe we will run into each other. Linda

No nonsense approach to weight loss

Grace, FINALLY!!! This makes so much sense to me. I have not been banded yet. Will be going to seminar on Thursday. Have been researching obsessively, boards, books etc. and did begin to feel like I would be on another "white knuckle diet" for the rest of my life even with the Band. I was going to give it a try since nothing else has worked. Your "common sense" approach seems so logical. It just FEELS right. (I am big into gut instincts.) I "feel that I can live with this way of eating. Each time I join WW I become so food obsessed, as with all of the other programs and diets. I am sick of it because it DOESN'T WORK! It is a prelude to another failure for me. After reading your post and seeing your success, CONGRATULATIONS!! I am sure this way will fit my life perfectly. Thank you for your service to our country. I am sorry for the sacrifice that it cost you. You are a true hero and a real inspiration. God bless you and you family. I will look forward to all of your posts. You're my kinda' gal! Hugs, Linda
