  1. Every other Sunday, I come into work to see a different shift work of people. Today I saw the group I hadn't seen since surgery/modified duty/plain clothes status. I walk in to see where my post is for the day and this girl yells in front of everyone "Are you on light duty?". Immediate reaction was to throw my hands up like isn't it obvious since I'm not wearing uniform? She's like (again in front of everyone) What happened? Are you ok? The only thing out of my mouth was I don't go around spreading my own news (business would have been a better term but I was confronted). Although it was nice to find someone who had asked about me and not how long I would be taking up a desk position, I didn't feel it right to make that announcement. Then I left the area.

Not how I saw that one going down! LOL.

  3. Boy do I really need to work on it! I am about three weeks post op and in Stage 4 eating (after soft foods/"eat anything"). For lunch I had a small grilled chicken salad no dressing to save calories. While eating it, I read an email that our boss had bough us pizza. UGH. I wasn't going to do it, but I was still hungry at the end of the dressing-less salad. The not one but two slices were flimsy. Barely any crust, sauce or anything. I hate to even log it in my MFP but I have to.

Can't wait for first fill. Pressure in my stomach didn't happen until 3O min or so after finishing.

    Sad.

  4. Because I was afraid the horse pill would get stuck. I checked my blood sugar and it was 325. So I broke the horse pill into quarters (tho it says not to crush break or dissolve). I took a quarter of it and it feels like it's just sitying there. I didn't take the other three. It doesn't hurt but I'm very aware it's there. Don't know what to do. Can't not take the meds anymore if my blood sugar is going to be high on a phase 3 diet

That friend wasn't a friend all this time. That is simply an aquaintance. Real friends will support you big or small. Those kind of friends are hard to come by.

I agree @Pac-woman. Hopefully, she will be supportive throughout your journey to a healthier you.

I too am interested in how my relationships will change. Only close family members, my husband since he drove me there and back *lol* and my boss, know about my procedure. Everyone in my family (I was adopted, so non blood related) is obese. Years ago when I was smaller, they kept telling me I was too skinny. After a depression, I gained it all back and then some. Now I find that I was actually at a healthy weight. So with them, I kind of know how its going to be. Both my husband and I are dieting (he refuses to have surgery). We married less than 5 years ago, so I don't know how it will be when I'm his "hot" wife.

As far as co-workers, they are already judgmental and don't like to see other people happy (98% of them are also obese. Mostly gaining the weight since starting our profession). So I can already anticipate how it will be with them when I am healthy.

With all that said, true friends, will be supportive of your endeavors and Celebrate your accomplishments.

  6. I preface this comment by saying I was a pack a day smoker for 15 years before quitting cold turkey in 2012 (because of dental implant surgery and pregnancy. I had my lapband in 2014).

In 2011, I had jury duty in a case where a woman had a breast augmentation where she was claiming it was botched by her surgeon. She was warned by the surgeon to quit smoking because it can drastically effect the healing of the surgical wounds. Well, she admitted that she did not quit smoking prior to the surgery even though she had been warned.

I had the unfortunate luck of seeing the result of consequence of her not quitting. Her incisions were, black, decayed and gaping wounds. I can't see how anyone can heal from those kinds of scars (mentally or physically).

We, the jury, didn't find in her favor of sueing this doctor because she didn't quit after being told to.

I know that this is a completely different surgery, but its surgery and is the consequence worth it?

Quitting for me was completely psychological. I spent a lot of $$ that I didn't have to repair a missing tooth with an implant. I was warned by the dentist that it would fail if I didn't quit. I was also pregnant and did not want to harm my baby. After he was born I had one, while out in a social scene and it was the worst taste/headache I had had in 17 years.

The only advice I can give is love yourself enough to not only start this journey to a healthier you, but to not risk finding out what not quitting smoking before surgery can do to you.

If all else fails maybe wait until you're all healed up. Maybe by then you won't want a cig.

    Hope this helps.

  7. My insurance doesn't cover any kind of WLS either. I was trying to figure out how to come up with 15K but they found out that I had a hiatal hernia. My insurance will cover that. At least 80% of it. So my doctor agreed to fix my hernia and place the band while he was in there for 5K. So all in all it's costing me around $5400. That was a whole lot easier to manage than 15.

Good luck and let us know how things work out!

Same deal for me. Out of pocket I'm paying 4500. financing with them $90 a month for 48 months. If not, wouldn't be able to do it.

  8. I just made an almost identical post to yours yesterday about drama in the workplace because I want my business private. I hear from some that everyone thinks I'm pregnant but no one will ask (even if I am ok) . All they care about is how long I will be on desk duty. Frankly it's a joy to me ( now) that I know and they do not have the privilege.

  9. Congratulations on the loss! I am glad you have posted this. I am 2.5-3 wks post op (lapband with plication). Yesterday, I went for my first post-op follow up per their scale, actually weighed more than their scale in the preop room. How discouraging when I've been living on Protein Shakes, Thin oatmeal and soup! Without this post, I don't think I would have ever heard of the "stall period". Definitely motivating to keep on keepin on and the lbs will (eventually) fall off!

  10. I, like many other bandsters like to keep my surgery private. Unfortunately, I work in a position that requires the wearing of a uniform. When anyone is injured, or for females who become pregnant, we are required to move to desk duty and wear civilian clothing. My surgery was done 12/31/14, which I took several days off for after informing my Supervisor (no way around it). When I came back, because of the healing process, I had to be placed on desk duty for the 4 week healing period. Of course the rumors fly because everyone assumes I am pregnant. No one will ask if I am even ok, except for the ones who come in on the following shifts. If they ask, I just tell them I am fine and leave it at that. But the other ones are (ask they have asked me) only concerned about how long I will be taking up the desk position(s).

Trying not to stress and let it affect my results, but people are drama.

On a side note, my husband wanted to indulge the rumor of our expecting (he works at my dept. as well). He's willing to accept the congrats!

  11. I am so glad to read this! I have been eating Wendy's chili (making sure I chew really good before swallowing) !

I might just stop and get some after work too!

My nutritionist actually has Wendy's chili on her approved list for easing into the chunky food phase, so its not that bad!!

Some Panera bread Soups are also fairly low in caloires and fat. Their broccoli cheddar is actually pretty reasonable!

  12. I guess I am convinced I haven't lost anything since the doc's scales in the hospital were less than the one his office. My ticker reflects weights at home. So conflicting.

My clothes fit different and that matters more...

I had this procedure done just about two weeks ago (12/31/14). My surgeon calls it the iband. but its the same thing. I am eager to get restriction (scheduled for 1/29/15), because only after a few days post op, I was already feeling pretty hungry. Thankfully, I am not able to over indulge the feeling. I would like to stay full for longer than 2-3 hrs. I lost a small amount, but nothing like what I read in the forums right out of the operating room. I have been cleared to do aerobic exercise so hopefully that help.
