  1. I never considered the band because of the lifestyle restrictions that came with it. Coupled with the fact that there is a 30% complication rate after the surgery. My surgeon was very up front about discouraging patients from having it. I witnessed the limitations first hand at a dinner party when a banded friend spent half the night throwing up. Very happy with the sleeve. I've lost nearly 30kg in 7 months. My banded friend, 25 in 12.
  2. 27 kg down, 20 to go!! (Surgeon's goal is 10 more) VSG on March 26 2015
  3. I have carbonated drinks too. I burp immediately and take smaller sips. No problems here.

    Children's book about resilience

Thank you! I believe it is excellent too!! We hope it will really help children learn resilience, something that is sadly lacking in our society right now.
  5. Hi everyone, my very talented husband has written and illustrated a children's picture book which addresses the very serious topic of bullying in a colourful, humorous way. The main character, Square Peg, doesn't fit in her round world at all, and is excluded by her peers. Rather than play the victim, she uses her most powerful tool available to her - her resilience - to great success. We are trying to get this book published through Kickstarter - so are seeking preorders of the book to fund the printing. Please check out the link and support our project if you can - we believe this is a very worthwhile issue to be writing about and would love to get it out there into the wider community. http://kck.st/1GS7XKG Square Peg has a Facebook Page too! With illustrations and more information! https://www.facebook.com/SquarePegBook

    Spicy food

I would not have had the surgery if I could no longer eat spicy food, I love it that much!! No problems with it at all!
  7. Yes I had 2 caesars and the sleeve op was a walk in the park pain wise compared to them. I went home after the sleeve not needing any pain medication at all. I did suffer greatly from nausea for a couple of weeks but that was unusual and it went away fine.

    Wine and Pre-op Diet

I had a 4 Week preop diet prescribed for me, and a family wedding right in the middle of it. I asked the surgeon if I could cheat just on the wedding and he said of course I could!! So I ate and drank to my heart's content. Then I had my sister's 40TH birthday dinner the week before surgery and I had a margarita. My liver was absolutely fine.

Here are a couple of examples

    Post sleeve diet!

I was sleeved 8.5 weeks ago and have lost just over 40 pounds in total, about 22 since surgery. I have a protein shake for breakfast during the week because it's quick and easy, but on the weekend I'll have a poached egg on toast. I can't eat it all though. For lunch during the week I normally have a small tin of tuna on a couple of wholegrain crackers. Dinner is chicken or meat of some sort with vegetables and no carbs usually. I have an excellent plate set which helps me to portion my food.
  11. I chose the sleeve because it has a natural eating pattern with no worries about dumping or malnutrition. Sure, I still need to eat the right foods, but it's a hell of a lot easier when you only have a tiny stomach to fill. I always knew it was just a tool, not a magic wand.
  12. What's the omega loop? Is it another form of gastric bypass?

    1 night hospital stay?

Wow it's so different here in Australia. 3 nights is standard for a Sleeve. I had some nausea issues so stayed 4.
  14. I had a single glass of wine ???? at 4 weeks while on a date night with my husband. I sipped on it for an hour and enjoyed it immensely. I have no intention of giving up alcohol completely, but I have greatly reduced my intake. No more drinking during the week or even every weekend. In social situations only, which isn't that often.

    Day 5 post op

I had severe nausea for 2 weeks. They tried me on 5 different meds in the hospital and none of them worked. I was very sick but my surgeon wasn't worried. He said that even though it wasn't usual, he had seen enough cases that he wasn't worried. He was more concerned that I was keeping down enough fluid. I only started to feel better when I forced myself to have some Protein drinks. Now I feel 100%.
  16. CAUTION! Huge vent AHEAD! So I saw my surgeon and dietician for the first time today and have my surgery date in just over 4 weeks, I want to do this ASAP.( I'm in Australia so booking the surgery and using insurance is very straightforward). I'm excited to lose weight and feel good about myself. Husband thinks I'm abandoning him. He needs to lose a lot of weight himself and he says I'm getting the easy way out and leaving him to do the hard work. He said we got fat together and now I'm not supporting him to lose it. He said he would never do this surgery. So frustrated that he's making this about him when it is entirely my own decision about my own body. He's blaming my parents for what he perceives as them making me feel so bad about myself that I feel I need to do this. Grrrrr!!!! So angry at his bull$&@#!!!! Ive tried to reassure him of course. And I think there is also a lot of worry there about me dying. He has never had surgery ever in his life. He also doesn't perceive me as being unhealthy. I don't have any weight related health problems (yet- I keep trying to tell him YET) but certainly will in the future. So I'm feeling so frustrated but honestly I'm seeing this as his problem and I'm still going ahead with it because I need to for my health. Sorry everyone. Rant over.
  17. Well thanks again so much everyone for your incredible support. I'm now 3 weeks post surgery and doing great. Hubby is much better and much more accepting. He admitted to me that he was scared to death of me dying. Even for the first 2 weeks post sleeve, I was incredibly nauseous and vomiting all the time - I had a rough time in those early days and he was so worried I'd have to go back to hospital and I'd die from malnutrition or something. Now that I'm eating some food again and back to my normal self he can see I'm fine and he's alright with it now. I've lost 18kg (almost 40 lbs) since my heaviest (including the pre op diet) which I'm very happy about and he's noticing and making positive remarks. He's also trying very hard to lose weight - I think he's lost a lot, however he refuses to weigh himself and prefers to instead judge by his clothes - which actually isn't a bad idea for him because he would be scales-obsessed. But I thank everyone again for the incredible support you have all shown me. Right now, there is a positive outcome!!
  18. Hi everyone, I've just started my own vlog about the sleeving journey.. I only have one post so far but plan many more... My channel is called Getting Sleeved? Check it out!
  19. Thanks so much everyone. He was much better today, no sarcastic comments or cheap shots about how little I'll be eating. ????In fact he had a shake with me for Breakfast and my Protein and carb free veggies for dinner tonight. (I started Optifast yesterday). He's also said he's going to help keep me busy this weekend so I don't suffer too much with the starvation so he might be softening a bit. ???? It didn't help that a good friend of his told his yesterday that she has had the lap band for a few years and hasn't lost any weight! I'm not surprised, I would never consider the lap band, but at least he saw someone else who survived gastric surgery, even if it's a different procedure. I feel confident he will lose weight with me, he is much more determined than I am. ????
  20. Yes I really think he will eat well too and lose weight. He does actually lose weight easily when he tries.
  21. Sorry I don't know our weights in pounds. (It's all metric here!) I'll use a converter. I'm 112kg (and only 162 cm) 246 lb and 5 foot 3 He's 6 foot 2 and I have no idea of his weight (he won't weigh himself) but if I could guess he'd be 150kg 330lb? He is a large build though (many people think he played rugby) and carried his weight much better than I do. Yes he's very insecure, and has struggled a lot with depression in the past - still does. We had another big talk. Eventually he did admit that he should have the surgery too, but just can't do it. I think we may have turned a corner here.
  22. thank you so much for all your replies, they are all so positive and supportive. We had another big fight about it this morning. I don't honestly know if our marriage will survive this. He's bringing so much into it - he doesn't think I've tried hard enough to lose weight and taking the easy way out; I'm not going to teach our kids how to eat properly; he says he doesn't even know me anymore; he said he would never have married me if he knew I was going to be like this and on and on. He doesn't accept that this is a decision for ME, he sees it as one for both of us; that I'm the one who made both of us fat etc etc. He's impossible to talk to rationally. Out of desperation I'm going to call his mother a bit later this morning and talk to her as she's one of the only people he'll listen to and I know he spoke to her yesterday. This has all come to a head because I got the surgery date yesterday and he realises I'm actually going to do it.
  23. Thank you ladies. Both of your replies are so true!! He wants me to wallow in his misery with him!!! So selfish! No I will not discuss it with him any longer. He's being very childish and had better wake up to himself!!!
  24. Yep I'm from Sydney's northern beaches. Not sleeved yet, going to first appointments with the surgeon and dietician in just over a week.
