    Constipation

The Laxatea is the Celestial brand and I got it at Kroger. I couldn't find the smooth move.

    Constipation

I have struggled with this. I am three weeks out today. My Dr. told me to get benefiber and use it daily. I had Mirilax but he said that is too strong for daily use. If we have to go to that we can later; but he wanted me to start with benefiber. So, I have been adding it to everything all day long. It seems to have helped - however it takes a while to get going. In the meantime, I used Milk of Magnesia - the sugar free plain variety and added a squirt of flavored MIO to give it some flavor other than the chalky nastiness. Now, whenever I don't think the benefiber is doing the trick, I add Milk of Magnesia. Also, I drink an herbal tea call Laxatea. I am sure it is like the SmoothMove that has been mentioned. Good luck!

    High Blood Pressure Meds

I have been told by my drs. office staff that anything that is extended release needs to be rewritten after surgery. They just don't do well w/ the RNY patients. So, you may want to look into it.
  4. I am 3 weeks out today and have been experiencing hunger. Mostly when I first wake up in the morning- I can't wait to get in 1/2 Protein shake or something quick and easy. However, I have been managing my hunger by having at least 5 meals a day and making sure each one is a good source of protein. Two of my meals a day are 1/2 of the Premier Protein ready to drink shake at 15 g each. I then try to get in a Oikos triple zero greek yogurt at 15 g. right there I have 45 g of protein. Then for my other two meals I will mix it up with whatever I am trying new for the day. I was just released to start introducing soft moist meats. So, I made some tuna salad with an egg and light mayo, I baked some fish for another meal, etc. So, all my meals are basically protein and very little else. Good luck!

    Is this normal?

I have experience this somewhat myself. I am 3 weeks out and have been released to move from soft foods to the introduction of very moist meats. I have been fixing a few things thinking that they are going to taste so good and they always disappoint. Sometimes something will taste good the first time I eat it but when use it for another meal I no longer like it. I am not quite sure why this is, but it does happen. The worst thing for me are drinks. I cannot find anything that I like except for Water. I guess that is a good thing, but sometimes you would just like to change it up a bit. I have searched for several non caffeine alternates that would still help me reach my water intake amounts but cannot find anything that I like. I am like you - lets just keep eating to get our nutrition in and hope that it will turn around. The positive side to this is that I have never been tempted to overeat and fill my pouch too full!
  6. Hello- I am 12 days post op and have been doing very well. I am able to get in my Protein (50-70g) each day. I am able to get my Water in - barely. Usually coming in 64-68 ounces each day. Since the 3rd day, I have felt good most of the time. Everything looked great for my surgery fup on Day 6. My problem is that around day 9 I started feeling very weak. I went to my Primary Care on Day 11 for my first visit since surgery and my BP was 90/50 so my BP meds were cut in half. I figured that was the issue. However, Day 12 same thing. I was wondering if it is just due to the super low calorie count. It looks like I am only getting in around 450 calories per day. Should I look for some higher calorie sources for my protein to get some more energy? Or possibly add a meal a day? Or could this be something else? Anyone experience this?

Energy Levels 12 Days Post Op

Thanks @@gabbys_mom and @@LilMissDiva Irene . I have the B-12 sublingual. I used to take it prior to surgery. I am getting all my supplements in but I only have the multi-Vitamin and Calcium now. I go back on the 23rd with a blood draw on the 16th to disuss adding other stuff back in that I had prior to surgery (Iron, vit d, etc). I will check w/ my nurse and add the B12 now if okay. I will also look for some other drinks that might have some electrolytes. Thanks again!
  8. Anyone out there with Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) prior to surgery? How did RNY impact your symptoms? Did they improve? Get worse? Disappear? Please let me know. Thanks!

Yes - exactly. My mind was racing last night. I have been getting up extra early and coming in to work every day at 6:30 to make sure everything is as ready as possible for me to be off work awhile. I have created "to do" lists and have wanted to get everything clean before. I have also wanted to organize my closet by size, so that I can just keep moving in one direction in my closet and have prepared a "never again" box to throw things into. I found a woman in my church that just had surgery. She started several sizes larger than me. So, I am going to give her all my clothes so that she will have clothes to wear as she loses weight.

@@cadladykim - just wanted to let you know that I haven't been craving anything or wanting to do any last splurges. I think since I have been eating so well in preparation (to meet my pre-surgery weight loss goal) and the fact that I am mentally preparing myself to make some life long changes have prevented me from having the normal desire to splurge one last time. I have requested that the family go out for pizza tonight. That is one food that will probably be a very long time before I can even think about having a bit of - if ever. I may have to have a modified version from now on. Anyway, that is our "final meal." We are actually having it this evening even though my surgery is not until Friday. Thursday is of course bowel prep and liquids and we will be at church Wednesday evening. Good luck! I think we are scheduled the same day.

I am so excited for you. It must be so hard to be at work. Mine is scheduled for Friday and it seems like it will never get here! Let us know how you do. I feel like I have been "nesting". I am cleaning the house, organizing my closet, etc. in the evenings in preparation.

I am scheduled the 30th - close to you. I would love to share notes and buddy through this process. I am just not sure how much I will feel like updating anything the first few days. I know that others have, but I am not sure I will. I use my laptop or tablet and not my phone. I don't know if I will feel like messing with it
  16. Rebecca Jo Ragon

What are you most anxious about/excited for?

Worried about: Complications from surgery Complications, illness or disease after surgery as a result of having the surgery done (malnutrition, etc.) Excited about: Gaining my life back More energy Getting rid of the CPAP and BP meds Getting to things I had stopped doing (as an earlier post wrote - somewhere along the way, just not sure when) like going to amusement parks, riding rides, walking around, not worried about stairs or a large mall to walk around, fitting in seats at sporting events, etc. Shopping in any store I want to - not having to run all over town for the stores that have plus sizes Crossing my legs Putting on pantyhose......well, maybe Not running out of breath from the least little exertion Not worried about being able to do activities my office does for special outing days I am sure there are more!

    Surgery Date Roll Call!

January 30th....I have snuck in at the end of January! I am so excited. My dr. does not require a pre-op diet (except for the Clear liquids and surgery prep the day before) AS LONG as you lose 5% of your weight. So, I had to lose 14 lbs. I go see him tomorrow. If I have lost that amount, I am good to go. If not, then liquid diet of BariatricAdvantage shakes only. I am right in the bubble at 14-18 lbs lost. You know how your weight can fluctuate day to day. I am so worried I am going to go in there tomorrow and it will be up and I will be a little short. I am being very careful this week as to what I am eating and making sure I am getting plenty of Water in so that I won't be over. I am also just going to wear a slip and flip flops to weight in. LOL - JK!

Gastric Bypass (RNY) and IBD - worse or better?

Thanks for the heads up. No, it is not too much TMI. With these issues I would rather know than to play it polite and be surprised. I think we probably have the same thing. I think it is IBS (Syndrome) and not IBD (Disease). Anyway, I am use to flare ups and have even had accidents in the past year at work. So, accidents after surgery will not be a new thing:) Maybe I will be more cautious and careful because of the surgery and I might even show some improvement. Thanks again!

      blondebomb

thats understandable..so far me an the hubs has escaped the "flu"...we dont get the shots but I do spray essential oils I put rosemary oil in spray bottle with water an also added eucolypcas oil with it as well an I spray ll handles , counters an spray our hands thru out the day an so far so good. I picked up that lil tidbit of the essential oils from a surgeon that was their family secret an stayed well yr round....dont stress yourself...take 1 day at a time get some things done around the house that you'd like to do it might be a few wks to a few months to get your strength back..it took me 3 to 4 months to get somewhat strength back. it have limited anyway so pace yourself..keep us posted!
