LB Friendly RESTURANTS!

I guess I'm lucky my sister is a very light eater and we usually wind up getting the same thing. I request an extra plate and we split the food. If we have something left over my brother-in-law will eat it.
  3. I was banded on the 27th too. I have a lot of gas. Today I drank juice instead of water and I feel so full I don't know what to do now.
  4. I am a teacher and I have a new principal she is the second one since February of this year. I don't want to tell her I am getting the lapband since she does not seem like a very understanding person. My students begin August 9 and my surgery is Friday, August 27th I had planned on taking Monday and Tuesday off and returning on the following Wednesday. I have told three of my co-workers whom I trust. Am I obligated to tell her?
  5. Thanks Murpel. Hummingbird how much time do you recommend I take off. My family wants me to take two weeks off. I guess I haven't thought the after part through enough.

    approved but not happy

I am in the same place I am a teacher too. My school year starts Aug 9 and my surgery is Aug 27. As of today I still don't know what grade I am teaching and what classroom I have. My surgeon's office knew when I will be on break but they scheduled appts when I was ready not when I will be on vacation. I have to look it at it this way my health is important to perform my job to the best of my ability.

    I have chickened out!

I was like you too in November 2007. I told my parents and my sister that I really wanted to do the procedure. I went to the seminar and the follow up surgeon visit but when I was told that my insurance company did not approve the surgery I figured that I could do it on my own. Instead of losing I gained 10 extra pounds. After I was diagnosed with diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure I came to a decision. I now have a surgery date. August 27. I guess that I can't believe that I need weight loss surgery to be able to loss weight. I am a life-time member of Jenny Craig, I am also a member of Weightwatchers. I have joined Xsport and Curves. I am nervous terrified and excited at the same time. Someone had a pro and con list on one of the forums. My mom always taught me to make a pro and con list. It took me reading her pro and con list and creating my own to realize that I need the surgery. Good luck!!

    New & Terrified!!!

My surgery is August 27. I am terrified, nervous and excited at the same time. A part of me has doubts but I realize that its for the best. I am starting to have other health issues because of the weight. I was just diagnosed with diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. I also have PCOS which I have had since I was 18. My family is being extremely supportive. They are encouraging me to have the surgery.
  9. I feel like I have jumped through hoops to get to this point. My surgery date is August 27, 2010. I went to the first seminar in November 2007. In January 2008 I found out I had the wrong insurance. I couldn't switch my insurance until November 2008 or I could pay for the procedure on my own. So I resubmit the paperwork in January 2009 and found out it was the wrong insurance plan. So I had to wait until November 2009 to change my insurance again. But this time I called the surgeon's office before I changed my health insurance to make sure that I had the right plan. I even talked to the surgeon and lucky me he had remembered me from the previous year and he said this the year you get this done. Everyone in my surgeon's and my primary care doctor's office is GREAT!!!!!! Even the psychologist was GREAT. After that it was easier but by this time I was diagnosed with diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure as well as the PCOS I had since I was 18. The one doctor that gave me the hardest time was the nutrionist. She is only available two days during the week. I guess what I am trying to say is that at the end of the day if it is meant to be it will happen. You just have to hope for the best!
  10. The surgeon and nutrionist told me it was to shrink the liver so that the surgeon could see the stomach. But the nutrionist told me to call her if I have any problems following the liquid diet.
  11. My surgery date is August 27. I have been working on this for the last three years. I am kind of scared about undergoing surgery.
  12. He is not performing the surgery anymore.
  13. Hi Thanks for letting me know. I am considering using the same doctor that you used. Would you recommend him? Eva
  14. Hi my name is Eva and I teach in Chicago also. I looked into the procedure last year and have been afraid of the surgery. I was wondering if you teach in Chicago Public Schools. I hope this is not too personal but did your insurance cover some of the costs? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!! Eva
  15. I have PCOS and I am interested in lapband surgery I am looking for a doctor in Chicago. I am terrified of the surgery. I already went to a seminar and the person who gave her testominal was rude and I do not want to go through them. Instead of saying you'll be fine and if you stay at your current weight you will have other health related problems. She said you have a higher chance of being killed in a car accident.

    Mixed Emotions

I also have tried every diet I could think of the only one that seems to work for me is if I eliminate carbs and exercise every day. I lost 20 pounds. But then I thought I am going to be like this forever. I went off the diet and am 5 lbs heavier then when I first started. My mom suggested liposuction and I immediately thought of the the lapband I had looked into it before and now I am convinced I really want to do it. I am terrified of not waking up from the surgery though but I think this is the right step for me.

    For those who have PCOS

The last time I had a laser treatment was on 11-06-07. I think it depends on how fast the hair grows. Your are suppose to go back every two-three weeks for the first six months. After that it is a touch up. The touch up is about $60.00. I usually wait until I can see the hair growth in my car mirror. Because I have PCOS I was afraid to get it done. But now I make sure that the person doing the treatment knows I have PCOS and is state certified to do the hair removal. Usually a former RN is best. I don't go through a salon.

    For those who have PCOS

I took the spironolcactone when I was 18 or 19. The way I understood it was as follows. There was nothing to be done with the hair that had already grown on my face and neck. It would control new hair growth. I feel that the medicine didn't help me. It was just a new medication to take.

I was bleaching from my cheeks down by neck once a week. It was really drying out my skin. I would also use hevay make up concealer, foundation and powder to hide my facial hair growth. When my sister found out she scheduled an appointment with a hair removal specialist at a wellness institute. I love it!!!

It is more expensive I pay about $120 a visit for five sessions but I try to make it last for six months and I go back every other year. My complexion has changed. Some days I don't even wear make up at all.

    Newbie from Georgia

I was diagnosed when I was 16 I am now 35. I was a part of so many studies that when I turned 25 I was totally frustrated and decided to ignore the PCOS. I stopped taking the medicine and decided thats it I've had it. I stopped seeing the doctors and taking the tests over and over again. Nothing was going to change. In the last few years I've gained so much weight. I am 5'2 and I am carrying over 100 lbs of excess weight, I am tired, my hair is falling out, and I am depressed. I can't take this anymore. Every few years I become interested in the PCOS and I see my doctor and follow their recommendations. This year I spoke at length with one of my doctors and he asked me if I had considered the lapband. I started researching it and I think this is something I can do. I know it is not the solution. It is a TOOL to help me develop good eating habits and change my lifestyle.
