  1. MoJo119 I liked your post. I am 5 months out and have lost 55 lbs but seem to be plateaued around 200 lbs. My goal was to get to 150 lbs but I'm starting to wonder if that is a realistic goal given my stall. I'm following the food stuff really well, ski 2 days/week and do weights and core 2 days/week. The problem for me is with the stall I am starting to feel frustrated and feel like ccheating on my food (although I'm not). MoJo119 I am about the same height as you and before I had WLS I had a tough time getting below 185 even with starving myself and working out consistently. I saw your post and can imagine being in your shoes in 6 months.

    For the physically active sleevers...

I am 9 weeks post-op. I used to love to exercise and was looking forward to being able to do it again after losing some weight (which I have done). I have started trying to walk and sometimes attend a bariatric exercise class. However I am finding that I just don't seem to have the energy to enjoy this. I am doing well with my fluids and Protein and am eating 800-900 cal/day. I'm wondering if I am just not eating enough. I used to love to walk and now it is not enjoyable and is a real struggle. I'd love to get some suggestions. I wanted to be in shape for ski season but the energy thing is really holding me back.
  4. those chicken breasts sound yummy. Think I illgo to Trader Joes tomorrow and check them out.
  5. Do have to cook the pregrilled chicken strips from Trader Joe's? If not, that would be convenient.
  6. I am about to move to the soft food stage and somehow I am supposed to be getting vegetables in. Right now I am in the pureed stage and the only way I can get all my protein in is by drinking protein shakes. I am so sick of those shakes. The volume of food I can eat is so small that I am worried about being able to tolerate an advance in my diet.

I'll try the egg over medium. What diet are you on now? I am still on pureed foods for another 9 days. I am not allowed grilled chicken yet. The moist turkey from Boston Market sounds good. At nighttime I have been eating a couple slices of turkey lunchmeat (well chewed) and this has been good as well. Today for lunch I had Tomato Basil Bisque soup and this was delicious but I could only consume a 1/3 of the bowl.

Dragonfly78. Good going. I'v ebeen able to eat eggs although they are not tasting as good. I'm not sure I could stomach a piece of saugsage. I have managed a couple of eat out meals. One I had a cup of tomato Soup and that was good. The other I had a bowl of chili. I had a few bites and took the rest home and packaged into 2 oz condiment cups for 5 additional meals. At this point cottage cheese seems to agree the best with my stomach.

I am 2.5 weeks postop and had been struggling with energy since returning to work this week. It was suggested that I try walking. Well I'm proud to say that yesterday I walked 15 min and today I walked 20 min. It wasn't easy but I definitely felt good afterward. I'm going to keep working on this. Good luck to everyone!

    Insurance approval

Mine took a whole month and there were no denials or appeals. I didn't get my approval until 2 days before surgery. A real nailbiter.

I am now 15 days out from surgery. I felt great during the 1.5 weeks I was out of work. I have returned to work and feel weak. I am getting my Protein in through Protein shakes and some food but I just feel weak now that I am trying to return to my life. I am consuming 600 cal/day and having problems getting in more. Any suggestions? Oh and I am also getting adequate fluids in.
  12. Dear Beliobloom, Thanks for calling me out about the chocolate chip cookie dough. You are right it is too early to slip up. I had terrible diarrhea after the fact this AM to remind me again that I made a bad decision. Live and learn.
  13. I am 9 days post op and have done very well and had little pain. However yesterday I dropped something around my feet in the car and leaned down to pick it up. That led to what I would call an abdominal muscle spasm right side around the liver area. This subsided after a few minutes but today I have had muscle soreness and tenderness in my right upper quadrant. The area is tender when I press on it or when I do anything that involves me using my abdominal muscles. The tenderness is above the incisions so not incision pain. If a sit or walk or don't use my abdominal muscles my pain is 0. There is zero relationship between eating, drinking, gas passage or bowel movements and this pain. My "gut" (ha ha ) feeling is that I just strained a muscle in my abdomen and is probably nothing. Any suggestions?

    Liquid diet ....wtf

I found the easiest way to get through the pre-op diet (2 shakes and 1 small meal and one small serving cottage cheese) was to eat the regular meal in the middle of the day (so I would not be hungry at work) and have the Protein shake in AM and PM. Then I had small serving of cottage cheese at night so I wouldn't starve all night. It really sucked for the first 3 days but was easier after this.
  15. Statistically you are more likely of dying from an obesity related condition than from the surgery. I am 9 days post op and I can share with you that having this surgery has been a huge relief. I had a ton of anxiety before the surgery and now I'm fine. My biggest fear was that I'd wake up and be miserable and regret my decision to have surgery. None of this has happened and I have not yet once regretted my decision. It's pretty great to not be hungry, and then to eat a little bit and not feeling like eating much. I have never had this feeling of early satiety EVER in my live. So forge ahead, you'll do great. Hopefully you can get some help with your kids.
  16. Keep up the good work and sorry to hear you are having complications. I am 9 days post op and doing well although I haven't pushed myself that hard physically. I felt compelled to answer you because I was feeling guilty today about slipping a bit and having a few bites of chocolate chip cookie dough. Just enjoy that your sleeve is working well and preventing you from overeating. From your description it sounds like perhaps you are eating too much carbohydrate. Try to up the Proteins a bit. Good luck!
  17. Just keep taking your ursadiol and you should be ok.

Add to the list things I didn't expect after surgery. Being changed from large once daily AM dose meds to immediate release 3x/day and having it mess my sleep schedule up. I take Effexor XR one time/day and they switched me to immediate release 3x/day. I'm thinking about just taking it all in the morning.
  19. You probably don't have an bowel obstruction or else you'd be in pain and sick as a dog. I just had my sleeve last week but 4 years ago I had a small bowel obstruction and Was in the hospital 5 days with a tube down my nose and required surgery. Far worse than my sleeve experience.
  20. Have you stopped passing gas? Are you vomiting? Are you taking ursadiol? If the answer to the 1st 2 are yes, you need to return to the ER as you might have an obstruction. Alternatively you might feel poorly because of UTI

Thank you ANewMe9/21 . Do I take it that your surgery is on 9/21? I laughed a bit at the poor people complaining of the liquid diet for 2 weeks post op and having to run to the bathroom every 15 min. Glad that is not me. With the pureed diet I am actually starting to have bowel movements. Small and soft but BM just the same. Are you on the 2 week liquid diet now? That really sucked the first 3 days then it was doable. My liquid diet had 2 Protein shakes plus a small meal of protein, vegetables and grains (350 cal). I found it easier to eat the regular meal in the m iddle of the day and the second shake before bed so I wouldn't be starving all day. I was also supposed to have a small serving of cottage cheese during the day that I also took at night so I wouldn't starve all night.

@@dragonfly78 glad to hear about the same time frame we are on. I juust now openedd new nutribullet and what an amazing device! Several people asking me about what I was told to puree. Basically anything but was told it should be high protein (eggs, greek yogurt, beans, cottage cheese, lentils) The lentil stuff is from Costco and yum! I was told to puree the scrambled eggs and that was terrible. I read some where else just to scramble the eggs and undercook them and that was better. Cottage cheese from Cost co is pretty runny so haven't pureed that or Greek yogurt, tomorrow will try pureed chicken and broth. Yes I have been eating pureed food since day 2 in the hospital. I've also used applesauce to get some of my meds down. I am a total worrywart but have been pleasantly surprised that it's been easier than I thought it would be. It's great not needing to eat much and having little hunger
  23. Hi all, Hopefully all you September sleevers are in the process of getting your surgeries. I am now 1 week post op and it's amazing how it seems like I am doing better each day. Yesterday I got out of my house and took a drive. I went to costco and picked up a LARGE box of 2 oz condiment cups (the minimum for sale was 1200/box). I got the idea for using condiment cups from the hospital where that was how they served my pureed meals to me. 2 oz is 4 tablespoons which is recommended as to maximum amount I should eat at one time. Later today I plan on cranking up my nutribullet and filling up a bunch of pureed chicken, pureed tuna, pureed Beans and pureed lentils condiment cups (with lids so I can stash up a supply before returning to work next week.) I am also getting into the routine of all the meds I have to take. Some have to be taken in applesauce (emptying capsules), some have to be cut in half, some are simply chewed up. Even though I could have probably have returned to work sooner (hindsight is 20/20) I am grateful to have another week to get into my post surgery food routine. I also did a no no and stepped on the scale. I lost 10 lbs during the prep liquid diet and another 6 lbs since the surgery so was excited about that. I know this rate will not continue. I feared preop that I would be thirsty and unable to get fluids down. I have still not reached the 64 oz/day goal but I am getting close and it is happening more easily to drink. Good luck to all of you!

Sept date I am all set

Hi all! I am 5 days post op and have been taking it easy so haven't been on line to check on everyone's progress. I woke up with some alertness about 4 hours post op (on Sept 2). They didn't have a bed open so I was in the Post op holding area for about 8 hours. No drains. They finally found a hospital bed for me about 10 PM at night. My only complication was than I couldn't pee for the first night. I finely peed just a little bit and they used an ultrasound to determine that I still had 900 ml urine left in my bladder! So they straight cathed me and after this I was fine and started drinking more and started to pee. I am a physician so I knew that even though I wasn't getting in 64 oz/day, I was still getting in enough because I was still peeing. On day 2 I was feeling pretty good and was able to take in a couple of pureed meals so they let me go home a day early. When I got home I took a wonderful shower and went to bed thinking how studly I was not needing any additional pain meds. I barely slept that first night at home and by 5 AM I realized that stopping the pain meds had been a mistake so I started the tylenol and hydrocodone again. Being a self-sufficient person I told my husband I was fine and decided that the pain meds were necessary. For the next 2 days I slept off and on and felt ok. However my husband thought I didn't seem right and asked me to show him how much liquid pain medication I was taking. Turns out I was taking 2 teaspoons when the label said take 1-2 tsp. I thought I had been taking 1 tsp every 4-6 hours and I was measuring it wrong. So I backed off to 1 tsp and am more alert. I am getting in 1-2 protein drinks/day, 2 pureed meals (4 tbsp/meal) and about 40 ml liquids. I know that from my reading that I am supposed to have 3 pureed meals with 2 pureed snacks, 2 protein drinks so I am not quite there but I am listening to my stomach and force feeding/force drinking doesn't feel right. I am still peeing so I know I am ok. This AM I decided to stop the oxycodone during the day and continue the tylenol. I will likely take 1 tsp oxycodone tonight before bed and I know that sleeping well will help me. I've been typing for awhile and am too tired to read all the posts (I'm on page 20, yesterday's postings). Overall I'm doing well. Good luck to all of you Sept sleevers. There has not been anytime so far that I've regretted my decision!
