  1. Thats fantastic weight loss in such close time...well done! Yes only one minor cut..just under my breast.. its still red but sore underneath. Couldnt wear a bra ..but ok now to wear one. All other scars are great. I do get alot of gurgles ...in the lower intestines alot...as for my stomach...I cant even feel where it is! Haha. I do have a craving..when I see a TV commercial...but it goes after 5 mins.

  2. Im feeling great....I did have some acid build up...yesterday. Im on phase 3 of post op diet. I introduced myself back on porridge yesterday.....today I had at lunch..one weetabix...and tonight one scrambled egg (soft)...it was lovely..but its funny as I dont feel hungry or full...be just content. I Guess when back on more solid food..I will fill up quicker. Tomorrow is my last self injection of Clexane (anti clotting)...they never bothered me and painless. Its in 3 rd week..and my daughter said she can see Ive lost weight in my face. I dont want to weigh myself . I still have my pre op mind of "I cant lose weight". My brain will take time to catch up. I make sure I get out everyday to walk..but i notice I weaken after an hour..so I go home ..important is fluids...Im ok with that.

  3. Its kinda like having gallbladder removed. I had mine removed 2 years ago. Its the getting rid of the gas that they blow your belly up with. Due to that..before they put me under..I asked the surgeon to expel most of the gas..it really helped.as apparently what may be painful is the pain you get on the right top shoulder...as the gas spreads that far. When I woke up and after a couple hours I had that shoulder pain but very minor. What was different was a "Swallowed a ball" like you swallowed something too big. Its a bit painful when suddenly you get urge to burp..but it doesnt last long. The morphine helped and other meds to calm all acids. Remember to sip all the time and just.....take your time in drinking and it wont hurt at all. Just gurgling which was weird ..but thats calmed too. I asked another post patient on same ward and she had very similar feelings. If you need any of us for guidance im more than happy to help. X

  4. I feel great!! The first couple days..yes you feel wiped out and you have like a "tight knotty" feeling in the centre of the chest from inside ...and you do find burping a task..but after thinking Im going to have this forever...it went by the 4th day...but I guess thats different in every patient. My scars were not hurting at all...but when sipping Water for first time I could hear my stomach gurgle away...funny sensation. The urge to gulp down water was hard..as i knew only to sip and took ages yo take liquid meds...but you get used to it. Plus Im a coffee lover but after this only managing half a cup...as it goes cold..due to the time it takes to swallow. Today Im so back on track the only thing to remind me ive had surgery is the scars as it feels fab inside.

  5. Ginger, I just recently had hungry pangs but usually close to the time of a "meal" which is blended food/liquid. As soon as I start eating, I am full. I was around food during the super bowl and was not tempted at all.

Us post ops..notice we are constantly bombarded with images of food...commercials...billboards..I think we notice it more..but to the "normal Joe bloggs" that subconciously read all these food pictures then get the craving. Advertisements I feel have a lot to answer to..by waving fatty foods under our nose. Yes its our fault if we follow through and eat the damn things! I wish fast foods wasnt orohected on us 24/7. But at last we have control..certainly for the first time in my life.

  6. Lkeys....Im the same! One week today and feel great. Im on phase 2..but still on liquids till the end of week 2. But im fine. I dont know If you get this..but im not hungry at all..but for about 10mins I have a surge of thoughts for food. But I ask myself why am I feeling this when im not even hungry and it subsides quickly. Gongrats on your surgery! X

  7. ok.. Tomorrow is the big day.. feeling good.. Have lost 15lbs as of today in prep for this surgery tomorrow... on my way.. Good Luck to all who are having surgery this week!! keep the faith and keep your eye on the prize.. next couple of weeks are going to be really hard adjusting to eating again... but we have all committed to changing the way we have been living through this surgery and our will power prior... You are all beatiful and deserve good health ... Cheers!!!

Hi....mine was 6 days ago and feel real good...Yes I admit the first 48hrs is an endurance but the tip I hope I can give you is ask the surgeon to expel the gas from your belly before you wake up.....IT REALLY HELPS! Yes I still had trapped wind...but due to them helping by taking out alot of it i didnt spend my time in hosp in agony. Getting used to sipping is new experience as so used to gulping down for years. You hear your stomach gurgle! Haha. Take all meds pre and post op...so important. The feeling of "tightness" and a feeling of swallowing a hard object on the chest ......normal ! That subsides.GOOD LUCK!! XX.

  8. Hello Hello - It's Wed, not Monday - I'm back. First - THANK YOU for your input, feedback, sharing your stories - I know that what i read and adhered to is largely due to what I read from you all!!!!

Surgery 1/24; It went great and it has been relatively smooth sailing through day 5 (today). I followed everyone's advice and walked and as such, had no gas pains. The pain I felt was manageable and by day 2 i felt basic soreness (still do a bit) but nothing that i needed meds for. Drain out before i went home on day 3. I did have some sudden heavy oozing yesterday, but it has subsided - no issues. Rested alot between surgery and part of day 4. Feeling really good today. Went back to work (remotely). I am sipping away and plan by day 7 to start walks!

BUT - today, I thought about food a couple of times. I think i read that is normal. Not hungry, not feeling deprived, just thought about food. I stayed with a friend until today. Maybe it was just because I was back in my digs and i am used to eating here? Anyway, pushed through it. I did make a Protein Shake (chocolate) and sipped slowly. All seems well.

I am not weighing yet - haven't weighed since a week before surgery (when i began my 1 week preop diet). Let's see where I land after the swelling, soreness subside.

I am watching for your results!

hi...im the same had bypass on 28/1...today (5th day post) I feel alot better..my stomach not so "tight" feeling? The day before..every sip i took...it gurgled in my dtomach then BURP! I guess that the norm..all my cuts are healing lovely..only uncomfy one for first 24hrs was the drainage tube..so pleased when that was painlessly taken out. I do have meds to take (pre op) and will see my gp in 4 wks to start weaning me off my very strong morphine. Im making sure as you all should..take your post meds! So important! 3rd day post op.it took all day to drink and take meds due to the discomfort..that does alleviate ....today i swallowed them with no problem. I have to inject Clexane For the next 2 wks just for safety measures for post clots. Im so pleased ive been "re plumbed"..

  9. Hi....im back home....and before they put me under i made sure i said it...I said I hear you can take most of the gas back out....they said ok..we will take out as much as they can. I was warnex with excessive gas youll get pains on the top right front shoulder which is hard to get rid of. But due to me asking I had a mere 10% pain there. Dont get me wrong..I still had trapped wind but not as much..phew! Just keep burping..it helps so much! Also PLEASE make sure if you are on any meds BEFORE the surgery..make sure recovery and the unit you go on know you must continue to take them (if still advised by surgeon)....as they forgot to give my MST (Morphine) and got withdrawal symptoms..but was immediately corrected by the pain clinic nurse. Its important to keep sipping Water at intervals..as the more liquid you keep in the better you feel. Im home....still tender but so comfortable. X

  10. Hi everyone...its gone 10.45pm...I feel great execpt for some "Gas"...One good tip and I think it helped...minutes before going "under" I asked the surgeon..before he wakes me up can he expel most of the gas while im being glued up. DONT BE SCARED TO ASK. I didnt have a bloated belly..it was slight. It helped alot just asking a simple task...but i do have some pain where the diaphram is..but ive also had a repair done at the same time so it may be that. I will see the surgeon in morning.

  11. Hi there! Ive had done!!!yeah!!

Well..I kept positive thoughts ..thinking of how much itll will change my life...how great I will look...also the tjought of plsying in the park with grandchildren. When I was walked into theatre they was all cheery as I was! As I laid on the operating table..I joked around and its just calmed me....They anticipate nerves..I mean who wouldnt be nervous...I asked questions of basic surgery and ALWAYS talk about how Us redheads are completely different from others with surgery..that we need more painkillers..we bleed more and unfortunately our pain threshold isnt good. We was just all chatting like we was in a coffee shop. As I thought..why get scared..why get nervous...ive waited a long time for this..a long time to be healthy...and enjoy life. X

  12. Well it's 5.30am..Ive been up most night. At 6am I have to take remaining tablets that I also took the night before at 6pm. Then I leave for the hospital. At 7am I will book in and fuss will be made to prep me for my Bypass Surgery. Im first on the list...Im as calm as I can be..not wirth getting stressed..Ive waited so ling for this like we all have. Now it will be my turn to give advice if asked...this site has learnt me so much...hints and preps that I couldnt get off friends thats never been in my shoes. I cant wait in weeks to come to show you all my "after pics' . All I ask is for thoughts of healing...prayers to the surgeon to guide his wonderful hands.......bye for now. Oh im so excited. X

  13. Dear Grateful_love.....yes I understand..ive only told close friends and one did reply " how can it be normal to have most of your intestines taken out" ...i just replied..well its best if you read up...youll find...no intestines are taken out..its just re routed. Trouble is people dont educate themselves......as for your work...why not say that you had an Endoscopy and they found I have a Hiatus hernia and theyre going to repair the hole that it makes? As theyve found this with me...so theyre goung to repair it while doing the bypass....as I was originally booked for the Sleeve but after the surgeon found that...I have to have bypass. Which I dont mind at all. So some people who know im going into hospital I tell them the "hernia repair".....GOOD LUCK! XX

  14. Sandy....Thats exact same resson im going to have the bypass...to educate what i can or cant eat...the dumping..is a warning sign..i dont think any otjer proceedure can give you such a good warning. Yes im prepared it will make me feel do ill..but when that subsides...Ican then take it off my list. And the same as you...it doesnt mean Im not going to try evety "bad" food for the gun of it..but this will help so much to educate my brain....as that kicks in last. I have less than 5 days to go...and Im reading so much....learning from you all..THANK YOU. Please anything you think "oh I never knew that" write it down as it will help us too.
