Does bariastic offer anything MFP doesn’t? I used MFP in the past so I’m inclined to use it again. Unless the other one offers something specific to the bariatric surgery journey

Monica77 got a reaction from Zzzombrie in January Sleevers ❄️
Hi everyone! I am six days postop. I was sleeved on January 8. The day of my surgery was horrible. I was sick and nauseous all day long. i'm not sure if it was the anesthesia or the pain medicine or both. But I was dry heaving and crying. It wasn't until late that night they got me the right combination of antinausea medicine and pain medicine. Since then things have been pretty good. I've stopped taking the pain medicines although I do have discomfort and pain at times in my stomach near my incision spots. One odd thing that has happened since the beginning. I get this wave across the top of my stomach that's a mix of nausea/Hunger. It passes in about 5 to 10 seconds but it stops me in my tracks. I'm not sure what that is. it has gotten less frequent as the days go on. The first few days I was nowhere close to where I needed to be with Fluid intake. But I've been getting better every day and yesterday I went well beyond what I needed. Protein hasn't been that difficult, surprisingly. I am using GENEPRO unflavored protein powder. If you've seen any of my other posts, you know I don't really like it and it doesn't dissolve well. However for 1 tablespoon you get 30 g of protein. So twice a day I suck it up and make it work with the broth or sugar free hot chocolate. I joined a new gym and walked 30 minutes on the treadmill today. I'm waiting for a call back from my doctors office now to switch to phase 2 which would be full liquids. Phase 2 doesn't seem to be that different than phase 1 except I can have pudding watered down with skim milk or applesauce. Anyone have any suggestions for the phase 2 part of the diet?

I woke up this morning and realized: This will be the last holiday season I will allow myself to be single and invisible. By this time next year I will have blossomed into my true beautiful and healthy self instead of hiding behind all of this weight and shame. I am so excited for the adventure ahead. I pray it goes well. I know it will be a tough path, but that the rewards will be so worth it.
Do you remember the day you knew your life was going to change for the better?

Im 2 days post op. I'm getting a strange feeling in my stomach. I'm hoping someone else here can identify with. It comes In waves. It's a feeling of hunger/nausea that washes over the top of my stomach in a matter of seconds, then it passes. But it's constant. Every few minutes. What is this? Anyone else felt it? It doesn't stop when I drink or if I take nausea med. I can't figure out what it is but would feel much better without it. Thoughts?

Oy! I was being factitious. I was hoping you would see that not drinking a margarita was not worth not going through with this. Of course eventually you will be able to eat pizza and drink a magarita, but you want to get healthy now so they need to be shelved for a while. The surgery is not that scary. You will be fine.

@@dad77, who said you can't have pizza!!! I did a search on the blog, The World According to Eggface, that you can use. I'm sure you can make many variations.
Shelly's BBQ chicken Tortilla pizza - Mission Carb Balance Whole Wheat Fajita Size Tortilla topped with 1-2 teaspoons BBQ Sauce, shredded cooked chicken (leftover rotisserie is great), sauteed Red Onions & Mushrooms, fresh chopped Tomatoes, sprinkle of Cheddar cheese. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2009/11/tortilla-pizza-time.html
I used a Mission Brand Carb Balance Whole Wheat 6" Fajita Size Tortilla, leftover chicken (it was leftover Chicken Marsala), a little alfredo sauce, a slice of provolone, sauteed mushrooms and pancetta and a liberal snowfall of parmesan. Pancetta is Italian bacon but you could definitely substitute regular cooked crumbled bacon. This is a seriously yummy way to transform chicken leftovers.

I also made a very Traditional Tomato & Basil version topped with tomato sauce, provolone, sliced tomato, Italian seasoning and fresh basil.
    http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/10/watch-out-pizza-hut-look-out-papa-john.html
The other night I topped one with sliced turkey meatballs, tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, Italian seasoning and fresh basil.
Directions: Place the tortilla on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Top with toppings. Bake at 375 degree oven for 8-10 minutes till the tortilla is crisp and the toppings are bubbly.

These Tortilla Pizzas are very family friendly. A little former teacher hint: children will eat anything thing they have a hand in preparing. I had kids eating all sorts of things they made in my class and Mom's saying, "OMG she would never eat that if I gave it to her." It really was just because they took part in the process. How fun it would be to have the kids help brainstorm and prep different toppings (using new vocabulary: dice, saute, grate), design their own creative masterpiece (tomato eyes, olive nose, red pepper lips) then slice them up for a fraction lesson.

I can only tell you about my experience. And I went through the same nervous/excited feelings and thoughts.
As far as food and drinks and alcohol go, I was able to eat anything and drink anything I wanted at 1 year. Up until then, I could eat and drink anything I wanted, but Frankensleeve was still adjusting and would grumble and complain sometimes.
My hunger feelings went away, starting the week after surgery. I only feel real hunger now - meaning I can feel my stomach complaining it's empty. But daily head hunger and food cravings are a thing of the past. I'm now in control of my food and for the most part, really don't care what I'm eating.
The hardest part was getting out of old habits, eating when I'm bored or eating because I think it will taste good. I've had a few moments where I'll pass the donut tray at work and just have to have 1, but it's only 1, I don't have to eat 4 or 6 to be satisfied.
Or during the holidays, I'll allow myself to over eat a bit on all the goodies. The difference is, now I know I'm in control and can easily go back to my regular eating and drop the weight.
I'm in control now. The hunger no longer controls me.
