How slow do you all eat?

I'm gastric bypass but rny and sleeve were given the same guidelines by our nutritionist team. A minimum of 20 minutes up to 45 minutes. I use the timer and take a bite every minute. Typically takes me 20 ish minutes for 1/2 cup of food ate with a baby soon. Hope this helps :-)

    Ashamed

I recommend a visit with your dietician. There's one at the place I go to that just tells it like it is and is full suggestions! She kicked my butt into shape before surgery and it's hung in there for me. Good luck on your journey:-)
  3. @@bellabloom , I can't agree more. I had surgery over the kids winter break, when they went back they discussed what they did during their time, my baby, 6 yrs old, said "my mom had surgery so she can live longer" Right then I knew I made the right choice!

Waiting for my date and having problems

You lost 30 lbs in a month dieting? That's amazing! Good for you :-) I guess my question is this, why is the nurse telling you all this stuff and not the dieticians or surgeon? That's weird. I would've demanded to have spoke to the doctor after the weight drop. I'm fortunate to have 3 huge hospitals within 30 minutes of my house that all offer a bariatric program. Can you look elsewhere maybe?
  5. The surgeon I had, had no deaths under him when we initially met. He has patients come from other states even! He did end up with 1 death. But he'd been doing bariatric surgery for years. I think it really comes back to your surgeon. Definitely do an online search about your surgeon before meeting.
  6. Volunteering in my children's classrooms. I've always been soo afraid of the kids teasing my children about me that I don't volunteer. I've missed out on a lot now because of my being fat. This year promises to be different!

    Breaking out bad

Yikes! Not here. In fact I think mine has greatly improved. The test will be next week when "lady time" hits. That's when I struggle. I've also been using homemade face cleaner. It's baking soda and water. Make a paste. You can actually leave it on for 5 minutes and rinse well. My face feels soo clean afterwards:-)

    Hubby isn't behind my choice

I'm sorry :-( I can tell you from my experience, surgery date 12/30/14, that the day I came home I wasn't worth much. The next day though I did fix my own foods, folded laundry and did some dishes. Did it hurt, yes. The key is not to overdue it. I hate that you find yourself in this position, but we women can accomplish amazing things when we have to despite the circumstances. Stay strong and you will be in my thoughts.

    Problems Already?!?!

I understand! Pork chops never smelled better to me :-) I actually took a bite and chewed it, then spit it out! Lol, but it did what I needed it to do. It satisfied that craving for me.

protein2O helps me get more fluids and protein

@@tart my husband bought me some at Kroger. They were 3 for $5! BUT, I can't seem to stand the taste post surgery :-( I had really counted on using those to get my protein and water at once. What's your favorite flavour so far? Mine was grape.

    Two week liquid diet?

zedqueen, I didn't have a 2 week special diet either. I freaked out a little also when I read on here that soo many had to do a two week liquid diet. I actually ate ate the cheesecake factory the night before surgery! I had never ate there or had cheesecake from there so my brother gave me a gift card for Christmas to eat there for my "last dinner". I ate very reasonable for dinner but splurged big on dessert Surgery the next morning just fine! Good luck this Tuesday :-)
  16. Tomorrow is the big day. 16 hours away!! Only my immediate family and my best friend know about this. I'm feeling nervous. A bit overwhelmed by the bad what if's. My doctor is at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH. His name is Dr. Sonnanstine. He seems like a great surgeon. His staff just loves him. I can tell it's not fake. Biggest fear with surgery is death, next to that I'd say diminished quality of life. I have 3 daughter's who mean the world to me. I'm doing this not just for me. It's for my family too. With high bp, dislocated disc and knee pain, I feel this is my last resort after many unsuccessful attempts to lose weight, including being put on weight watchers at 8 years old! Please say prayers for me. Prayers for peacefulness and rest. Prayers for the medical staff. Prayers for my family. Thanks all! Jamie

    Bypass Surgery tomorrow 12/30/14

Hi @@Oompaloompa :-) I'm doing pretty good actually. I really didn't think I would do ok, or this well! My biggest issues right now is: getting enough fluids, keeping my emotions in check, minor pain still in biggest incision, and wanting to wake up skinny Lol :-) :-) What are some of your struggles?

Dec 30 rny and still in pain?

Newlifeb, I also had bypass on 12/30! I'm still having some pain in that incision as well, but it didn't sound as bad as yours. I over did it on Saturday around the house so yesterday I found that if I hold into that incision when I sit, lean, get up, that it helps. It was stressed to me before hand that the incision on the left is where the doctor sews up everything Very tight. There's a lot of work right inside there. Try and take it easy. Yes we do have to get up and move, but we also just had major surgery. I hope your pain ends soon, or at least gets better very soon:-)

I week post op has anyone tried Coffee yet?

As long as it's decaf you should be fine. I can't stomach the thought of coffee :-( my surgery was last Tuesday.

I haven't heard of robots doing these surgeries. I know what you're speaking of though I had an actual surgeon :-)

    How much protein/sugar to eat

Just seen my typo. Sorry! My plan wants me to eat 5 to 6 meals a day. Less than 10 fats, less than 10 sugars, more than 10 proteins. Following that I'll get more than the 60 protein a day which is recommended. Hope this helps :-)

    How much protein/sugar to eat

I found that I have to add a clear tasteless protein powder to really everything that is to be considered a meal. I'm really liking injury right now. I just drank sugar free fast free chocolate pudding thinned way down with my unflavored unjury in it. It was great!
  24. I couldn't hardly stay awake. I could hardly carry a full conversation. I knew my family was there but I couldn't keep myself from sleeping. Talking made me exhausted. I didn't feel like much until the next day in the afternoon. Even that was minimal. I went home after 2 nights in the hospital. I've progressed much better being home. Surgery was Tuesday. It's Saturday. I've done dishes, folded laundry. Make my own "food". Every day will get better for you.
