    Two weeks post op!

I am two weeks post op and finally back in normal clothes! I have had to wear soft pants with elastic or sweat pants up until today! I have started a work out plan and noticed with only being 22.5 pounds lighter my walking seems much easier! I was up at 5:30 am and went on a two mile walk through our neighborhood. It was somewhat exhilerating with the light rain and dense fog in the pitch dark but I am motivated to work out along with my weight loss! I am on solids and have enjoyed finally having the taste of real foods that I have always loved in moderation. I will tell those of you in preop or thinking about gastric sleeve, your tummy lets you know when you are DONE eating! I have finally recognized what FULL feels like! Although sometimes I would love to finish my whole plate, I know I can't and I just remember to enjoy the flavor of what I can eat and push the rest aside! I have yet to regret my decision and would do it all again if I had to. I still sit with my coworkers and discuss the way I used to eat and WOW, what a change. I would keep on going until there was nothing left and still want more. I am so proud of myself for my accomplishments and how it seemed so easy to get through the surgery and recovery phase! I know you have it in you too!! I am a little eager to see what my final weight may be but I will patiently wait and let dreams come true! Hope anyone contemplating one of the surgeries will research and get good advise from those that have already gone thru any of them! I will be the first to say that my VSG was far less pain and suffering than I ever expected!! With love, Christie

    Two weeks post op!

I guess I look at my overweight being that I was always more willing to take the easy route and that led me to more weight gain. Even at my thinnest, I was still looking for an easy way to cheat the system. My cheating and falling for the easy way led me to gaining even more weight over the years. I will be honest and tell you, I am also one who chose not to tell many people about my WLS. I chose only a few people I knew would hold me accountable as well as give me positive feedback on choices I make for my new life ahead of me. I have a very encouraging group of honest friends and family that I trust will not share my journey, as for the rest, I will not lie, I will tell them I have decided to make better food choices and exercise more! You are right! There are so many people that will snub their noses at you for the mere fact of thinking of having a WLS, but the way I look at it is "It's not taking the easy way out"! I once read a book with a terrific truth to those who say by having WLS you are just taking the easy route. NO, there is nothing easy about preperation for the surgery, having the surgery, nor life after the surgery. I can say there are times that because we eat less and have been encouraged to exercise more the weight will come off faster but there isn't anything easy about it. The book made a suggestive: When there is negative feedback, or derrogotory comments, remind those by asking; "Do you still go out back and beat your laundry with rocks to wash?" "Do you have still hand wash all your dishes?" "Do you still hang your clothes out to dry?" I am quite positive the answer to at least two of these questions is NO. Well, does that mean they took the easy route out? NO, they found a more efficeint way to wash clothes and dishes so they aren't slaves to chores, they found help. Well, we found a way to help us not be victim to food addiction with a little help! Honestly, I chose to weed out the negative people in my life. I do not like to be involved with people like that! I think they are just envious. What we choose to do with our bodies is our choice, nobody else matters!!! As far as me, I am in my three week stall and I dislike it! I thought I would shed the weight faster, and I did the first two weeks, and then there is this nice hill to climb, "Three Week Stall". I've read much about it and I will do all I can to stay motivated and positive about moving through and climbing up out of the valley! I want to be on the top of the mountain, not in the foothills!! =) Wishing you a fast next few months!! Keep in touch! Christie

    Two weeks post op!

Thanks you OhSoNoni! I hope that you are getting excited! Three months will go by faster than you can imagine! YES, I am two weeks and two days post-op and am eating the same things people around me are eating, just much smaller portions! I have learned to slow down and enjoy all the flavors of the foods I love knowing that I will not get to gorge myself like in the past! It was was baby steps in the beginning but I got through it with many tasty broths and soups! I remember the first thing I ate was scrambled eggs and I was scared to death they would not work out so well, but I did a small bite and waited a while before I took another bite! If you wanna talk about anything, feel free to send me a message! If not, thanks for the kind words and I wish you the best of luck! If you are like most of us, you will not regret this at all! Best wishes and look forward to talking again! Christie

    Post Op and Loving IT!

Thanks so much and I am glad you found positive in my post! The pre-op diet was difficult and all I could tell myself is, "I've cheated all my life and now I have a chance to fix this, do not cheat yourself out of this surgery." That was my motivation, not easy, but it seemed to help! I will forever be grateful for this surgery. I agree the head is sometimes a hard one to beat when it comes to the food addiction, and no doubt I was a food addict, but it can be done! I have faith in you! Can I suggest something? If you are struggling, sit and write down all the things you can remember that you cant do now because of your weight, and then some of the things that you can wait to do when you lose your weight! Do it at those "hungry" moments and see if that will take your mind off of eating solids!! It's not forever that you have to be on the liquid... just longer than our brain wants us to be!! If you need someone to chat with about it, I am usually on here daily! I would love to hear your story pre, during, and post op!!! You got this sister!!! Sincerely, Christie

    It's over

I absolutely love this post! I had my sleeve on the 6th of Jan., 2015 and thought I was going to be superwoman and text all my support heros right after I got out! I have since returned to work (today, for the first full day) and they all had printed out the texts of our conversations on a HUGE welcome back banner! I can totally relate to thinking I was so coherient to really send out a mass text of my life in the Operating Room, as if I remember any of it! NOT. I do remember hitting the Morphine button a time or two! I wish you the best in hopes you can look back and read that message and giggle, chuckle, or at least smile at how well you were feeling! Maybe translate in a few days after returning home! Thanks for sharing that! I loved reading it! Christie

    Caffeine post op...

I think I missed the no caffeine for any length of time post op. My husband found a coffee area in my floor and when we went for walks he would make a cup to take along for the walk. I have since been drinking one cup every morning. Why did YAll get no caffeine post op?

    January 2015 Buddy Group anyone?

I had my surgery 1/6/2015!! I am home and learning all kinds of new life challenges! I have been doing really good since my surgery, so much I am down 17 lbs, but I feel like I might eat the wrong things and start gaining again. Maybe because that seems to be the past patterns before surgery and not used to not going back to my old ways!! I think I have lost so much in less than a week that my expectations are 17lbs every week for the next month or two... Probably big expectations!!! I need to learn patience! I hope everyone is doing well and look forward to hearing your stories too!

    Accountability Group

How do I join this group?
  12. newmetwenty15

    Scheduled for Jan 26, 2015

PreOp diet was just the beginning of the challenges for me! I had two weeks high protein liquid with a lean and green dinner everyday until the day before surgery. The day before surgery I had strict clear liquids only and not to eat or drink after 10pm... I chose to do clear all day and went to bed early that night!!!
  13. I was weighed the day of surgery! That is the weight I use as my starting weight!

    Valentine's Challenge

I've never done a challenge before but I will give it a shot.. I am six days post op having the VSG. Surgery weight was 266.5... Today I am 251.2!!! I will hope to be 220 by Valentines Day! ❤️❤️❤️

    Let the countdown begin!

I am BACK and I am forever grateful for my decision to make such a drastic change in my life! Tomorrow will make a full week post op and I have lost 17lbs. I will not lie, getting used to the sipping opposed to the gulping has been a challenge! I am amazed at the confidence I have gained as well as the excitement of knowing I am finally in the running for my new life!! I wake up each morning (still a little sore =) ) so excited to know that I followed all my drinking and food guidelines and how I know that scale is going to show my committment to this new lifestyle! Thank you for following!! I feel as though I have a new family along with my new life on here!!! Talk soon! Christie

    Let the countdown begin!

I have exactly 21 hours, 21 min and 46 seconds until I am in the OR for my VGS! I am packed and ready to get this past me so I can start my new life! I had my pre-op visit with the nurse this morning, I am pre-registered and I have everything on my list checked off! Now what do I do for the next 20 hours of my "life as I have lived with for this long"! I do not think I will be able to get much rest tonight, however, I am sure I will get a few winks of rest recovering! To say I am excited about the decisions I have made, is putting it mildly! I am super, super, super EXCITED and HOPEFUL for the changes that are coming my way! Life will be so different, but I got this!!! I hope all, that are thinking about or have done one of the surgeries, best wishes for a great new year! Hope to post post-op!

    Two days pre-op !

This is my first blog! I wish I would have found this website sooner! I have found so much useful information from many on here! My surgery date is set for January 6th, 2015 at 11:15am. I am finding my emotions to be swinging widely between terrified and exstatic! I have been on my two week pre-op diet and in hindsight, it hasn't been all that bad. The first few days were the worst until I called the doc's office to find that I was starving myself and I needed to add some caloric value to my straight protien diet. I was more than grateful to hear those words. I chose to do the pre-op diet through the holidays and that was a challange! I made it though and if I can resist Christmas festives as well as NYE, I think I got this in the bag! I am NOT going to lie, I have been tempted and I threw a few fits but I came out a winner! I have two full days of more waiting and then I will move from pre-op to OP! I have struggled with trying to keep myself overly busy so not to think of FOOD all day and how I chose NOT to wait for a later date which meant .... NO HUGE Christmas DINNER, leftovers or NYE party trays. I think a hurdle for me is the girls I work with. We have always been EATERS together and this year they would have to eat without me. I have to say ... I MADE IT THROUGH THAT TOOO!!! My husband and I just told two of my four children (younger), the older one's were told when I was given my date! It was so hard to explain why I needed to have this surgery. I take handfull of meds for this obesity related illness and I want to live long enough to know my great great grandchildren and the life I am living now, I will not see the beginnings of my first granchild if I do not do this. I am ready to be free of diabetes, sleep apenea, high blood pressure, migrains, and the fact that I have to literally help myself up from a chair because my legs are getting to weak to hold my weight anymore. My youngest says, "Momma, I think you are beautiful just the way you are"! ::TEARS:: I have fought this long enough and I believe they will love me when I am able to run marathons with them and play ball with them!! For now, I sit patiently and wait for my surgery date, drinking protien and reading blogs to make the time go by! I hope to hear many success stories if I don't blog again before my date!
  19. Two more days and I will be starting the beginning of my new life! I am having mixed emotions but the one emotion I have been sticking with is the excitement of finally being on the road to a healthier life! I have always been the biggest mom at my kids extracuricular activities and this year I will be amognst the one's that are cheering loudly so that all can hear and see them!! I will feel NO SHAME in doing so either! I have four children and was the mom who hid behind the children when taking pictures as not to show how big I was. I was the mom that hoped my face would compliment me so that the one's viewing the pictures would not see how much bigger I was than all the other moms. Looking forward to seeing how all my fellow sleeve dates are recovering in a few weeks! Prayers your way!

Soon you won't be the biggest Mom! Great that you'll be around for your kids to grow up and maybe have babes of their own!
