How long until I feel "normal"?
fit4life123 replied to Riz2006's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 100% at about a month. I was functioning fine and still attended school after I was discharged but I didn't feel like myself until after about a month. -
I called the program administer and I told her I was approved and she scheduled my date.

3 days to go and feel like chickening out!
fit4life123 replied to Wannabeskinnie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like to cook and bake too! Wls really let me explore healthy options for low sugar and low carb treats and snacks! -
Good luck to you! And, welcome to the site. While complications are rare they can happen. I was nervous but honestly I wasn't afraid at all. I was seriously just too excited about the "after" more so than the before. I was just so ready to start fresh! I understand however that things are different when you have a family but seriously, I think you'll be just fine! The pain for me was like a rough day of ab work at the gym, in fact I was up walking constantly right after. They give you pain meds and meds if you feel nauseous from the anesthesia. I didn't vomit at all during the pureed stage but once I started eating solids I totally had to learn my limit (Sometimes the hard way, i.e. trips to the bathroom) Its a learning process and journey! Good luck to you and I hope everything goes smoothly!

POST OP DRAIN
fit4life123 replied to heartonmysleeve82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on the doctor. I was told usually sleeve patients don't have drains but they gave a lot of lap band revisions to bypass drains. Sometimes it's gone before discharge and others have to go home with it. I didn't have a drain or a catheter when I woke in the hospital. -
They pump a lot of stuff in you. It's likely air, fluids, and swelling and your body trying to figure out what the hell is happening. Don't worry about it, you're fine.

Gained weigh during surgery
fit4life123 replied to sallyomalley67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't, but you're still recovering from the air and fluids they pump into you. It's normal. -
Reactive Hypoglycemia?
fit4life123 replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened to me twice when I was on soft foods and one of the on call surgeons said it was low blood sugar. He told me to drink a little apple juice and I felt way better! (It happened after a meal at work two times) My surgeon however said it was dumping...I haven't had an episode since moving to solids but whoever the on call surgeon was got it right. -
SURGERY 9 FEBRUARY 2015
fit4life123 replied to Brigette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now foods like that will be easier to get down. I've hit two stalls already but then pinpointed it down to not getting in enough Protein. Once I did that my weight starting moving again. I find myself asking if I ate too much not realizing that some foods will just go down quicker or get me fuller faster than others. It's definitely a learning experience! Good luck and we wls peeps on this site will stick together and beat all our stalls! *I say this and realize I'm probably the most impatient person ever when I hit a stall, lol.* -
just checked my insurance policy!
fit4life123 replied to Katie Loesch-Meyer's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I felt normal after about a month. (I got the sleeve however, so the bypass could be longer) Personally, I think it's great to keep busy with your book deadlines. It will keep the head hunger at bay. If your surgery is scheduled in April then thats a different story. You may too moody, fatigued, and just plain worn out from surgery and the changes your body is going through. It all just depends. I had surgery Jan 16, was discharged the 18th and MLK Day was the 19th and I was back in class on the 20th. I was pretty slow and groggy but I could still function to get all my classwork done. After my one month post op I felt great! -
Totally correct! I upped my intake by doing smaller more frequent meals and my stall seems to have broken! I won't speak too soon *knocks on wood* but upping my caloric intake did make a difference.
-
I stalled pretty quickly too but realized I was losing inches. I'm in another stall now and I'm trying to really get in my liquids and protein
-
it didn't feel real to me until I was on the or table, lol!

I was allowed to take whole pills after discharge

I looked it up and I think it's only for iOS : ( I didn't realize that when I posted earlier.

Weightbot is free in the app store right now.

@@GreenEyes604 Unfortunately this happened to me yesterday! I had to buy a fleet enema for the first time and my mother helped to...administer it, lol. Needless to say in about 2 minutes I felt some much needed relief!

How old are/were you?

I love your username! -
@@Elode I LOVE the Cookies and cream! @@Chele H I am currently in a stall but I added in the Quest bars as a way to make sure that I was getting in all my Protein. I haven't been on the scale yet, I'm trying not to weigh everyday because I feel sad about the stall right now. (And I just moved so I can't even find it, lol) I might start buying by the box because my father, who is diabetic(Type 2), likes them too. I'm trying to show him that healthy food doesn't have to be bad! Quest Bars are his "candy bar."

Don't be! They give you medicine if you are in pain and ask you about your pain level constantly. The pain to me felt like a really sore day at the gym. (Like I was doing ab exercises all day and night) I was honestly more afraid of the IV. I hated that something needed to stay connected in me. Plus, I had to have like 3 bags of potassium and that stuff really burned! She diluted it with some other Fluid pouches which helped but that was enough to scare me off going back in for dehydration, lol.

Did you develop GERD or did it get worse after VSG?
fit4life123 replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
*Knocks on wood* I'm surprised that I haven't developed GERD post op. I am still less than 2 months out so that might change but so far I have none. -
I'm also frustrated! I know I have to be patient but I've been 248 for almost a week now!!!

Feel like I can eat A LOT!
fit4life123 replied to Veronica Page's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way! I'm learning though. I can eat a 4oz fish for a meal and a couple bites of chicken for another meal and it seems like I can eat 4 to 5oz of veggies but then only half a boiled egg. For me some foods just fill me up quicker than others. When you get to full solids you'll learn which foods fill you up quicker than others. -
