    Post your progress pics!

Good luck! I'm not quite as tall as you, but proud of my success. Started the process at 230 and I've maintained 115-120 for over 3 years now. I had my surgery in 2014 and 2 years later I felt like a princess at my son's wedding!

I'm doubting if I want the surgery...

"The Candidate" is absolutely right! I had doubts and was questioning things about 5 years ago, stepped back and decided NOT to have the surgery. Last year, I WAS READY! NO doubts, no anxiety, no hesitation and I'm 7 months out and down over 90 lbs and couldn't be happier! You NEED to be 110% sure and positive going into the surgery or I fear you might not be very successful. I only met with my surgeon twice too, but met with his PA's multiple times and of course the nutritionist and behavioral therapist multiple times as well. And honestly, I haven't met too many surgeons that have any personality, so don't go by their enthusiasm or lack there of, PLEASE GO BY THEIR CREDENTIALS AND QUALIFICATIONS. Ask for references!!!! Good luck. Keep us posted on your decisions. I think everyone advising you to find a new doctor makes sense! Like someone said, the surgery will still be there, shop around! And pick the surgery that is right for YOU, not the doctor or anyone else.

Anyone else's post op like this?

Do you know anyone who has used this surgeon? I would look for recommendations. That's scary. You are having gastric bypass or the sleeve?

  7. My surgery was in November, and I really struggled with the Protein shakes and greek yogurt. The shakes or yogurt would get stuck and then I would have to drink warm Water to help it go down. My NUT told me about Isopure Tea. It wasn't that bad, I could drink about half a bottle a day. The full bottle has 40 grams of protein, so if you can do the full bottle, good for you! Even now, 7 months post-op, I still can't get the shakes and greek yogurt down easily. I make the shakes pretty runny and I put fruit with some of their natural juices in my greek yogurt to thin that down. Don't give up! Just keep trying different things. I had a hard time at the beginning with eggs and almost all meats. I just keep trying them to see if things are easier or better. Some are, and some things I still can't get down. But as long as my blood work comes back good and I still look healthy and feel good, I'm not stressing out over what I can't eat or how much I may or may not be getting in my body. Good luck! Keep with it! I'm down 90+ lbs and couldn't be happier!
  8. Best wishes on your surgery and journey! I'm 4 months post and have no regrets!! You got this!!

    Pancake question:)

Sorry Kalberto66 for not responding sooner! PB2 is a powdered form of peanut butter and adds peanut butter flavor without the calories. I get mine through Amazon. I also use it in smoothies and baking!!

    Pancake question:)

Try this pancake. So relish, and easy to make. It will make 2-3 pancakes, and I can only eat one so I have enough for next day breakfast! 1 banana 2 egg whites 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 tbls of PB2 (optional, but adds lots of flavor) Mash banana well. Whisk egg whites, add baking powder, PB2 powder and mashed bananas. Pour on hot griddle! Enjoy! I can't eat butter, so I use a little bit of Bremmel and Brown yogurt spread and a tiny bit if syrup.

    Just curious

RNY and I have 8 holes, as I call them. They found a hernia when they got in there, so a home or two more than they originally planned. Bio-oil everyday helps the healing process and minimizes scaring!

How many nights in the hospital?

Sleeve patients have a shorter stay then RNY patients. I can't imagine my hospital/doctor (also Center of Excelkence)allowing me to leave the day after that surgery. I understand you not wanting to be away from your family, but your health needs to be your priority after this surgery. Ask your surgeon what their experience and expectations are for RNY. Good luck with your surgery!

  18. My experience, even with my insurance company (Tufts) has been amazing. I think it is important to remember that everyone handles things differently, they heal differently, they tolerate pain differently, have their own support system and ways of dealing with things. So everyone's story will be different. I try to take everyone's stories with a grain of salt. Even a negative experience may yield some very good advice that you can use. I have found too, that some people are just negative people. I try to avoid those people, the gloom and doomers! Even when I have been sharing my decision to have this surgery with the people in my life, there was always that one (or several) person that has to say "Oh, I know someone that had that done and they died" or "so and so had that done and they can't ever eat food again"...it's always something with those types of people! For me, since my surgery 4 weeks ago, I have had only one bad moment: the day after surgery, still in the hospital. I was just about to take a sip of Water when my cell phone rang, hurrying and eager to talk to my friend, I GULPED THE WATER DOWN! Bad move, very bad. One minute into the conversation, I had to hang up as I felt as though I was going to throw up! I dry-heaved for 10 minutes...it was AWFUL! So when they say SLOWLY DRINK AND SLOWLY EAT, they mean it!!! The only other thing I have found to be difficult is drinking the Protein shakes post-surgery. Pre-surgery, no problem, lost 12 lbs on my pre-surgical, two week diet. But since the surgery, the shakes will not go down well. And it makes no difference if the shakes are premade or I make them myself with water!! whey protein and I do not get along well right now. So at my two week check-up I met with my dietician and she recommended I try Isopure Protein Drink. It's a black tea based protein drink I purchased (by the case, fingers crossed) through Vitamin Shoppe online and has 40 GRAMS OF PROTEIN!! I literally ordered them in the waiting room on my phone in between appointments. I was that eager to try something other than the whey Protein Shakes. They would get stuck in my throat...it was uncomforatable. Thankfully, I enjoy the Isopure tea. It goes down easy and the taste isn't bad, very tolerable. I prefer it with ice. I am even putting ice in my milk. I found I need drinks to be very cold. But other than that I couldn't be happier, no regrets because I am under 200 lbs for the first time in over a decade. I am so looking forward to upcoming events in my life without dreading having photos taken or looking like a giant clown in a "plus size" outfit!! Another piece of advice, talk with your weight loss center, be it behavioral therapist, your dietician, P.A. or surgeon if you have any questions, concerns or fears, that's why they are there!!! Good luck and best wishes with your journey!
