  1. After y RNY I had Strictures and had 5 Endoscopes with 4 Dialations. Along the way, I developed an aversion to food. I was afraid to eat anything but the bare minimum I was eating: Oatmeal, beans, and cheese was basically all I could eat. I also developed a bad habit of eating CHEETO's. When I told my Dr what I was eating he told me that he didn't care if I ate Oatmeal 10X's a day, that I needed my protein. So I think that was when it all transferred in my head that I couldn't eat regular things. The Endo's started in NOV of 2013 then I had one in Dec 2013, next was Jan of 2014. July of 2014 with my last one being Jan of 2015. I finally went to see a Counselor, but she had no idea how to help me. Finally, I went to a Bariatric Nutritionist. I drove 1 and 1/2 hour for her to tell me to eat every 1/2 hour I was awake and to drink Boost for my snacks. I felt like I had traded one eating disorder for another. The fact was she should have dealt with me differently. A person that has gone thru WLS and to be told to eat every 1/2 hour is TOTALLY SCARY for someone that has fought her weight hard for many years!! I don't know if that was her idea to help me but she defintly hadn't helped me. Sorry if this isn't exactly what you wanted but there it is. LOL I can now eat a variety of proteins, some veggies and a little fruit once in a while. I still don't have physical hunger and I am not interested in food now. By the time I eat my Protein I don't have much room. Thank you for reading my weird life. LOl

Why do protein drinks taste awful?

Watch out!! There are some on here that don't believe GENEPRO has 30 grams of protein and they get a little ANGRY when someone puts out good vibes on it. Personally, I LOVE GENEPRO. It is the only protein I use now. I put it in my Espresso every day. Just a little warning.

    Need typical day menu

First thing ==I use GENEPRO in my Espresso every morning. It has 30grams of protein. But some on this site will say it isn't what they claim. I am terrible at eating breakfast or lunch. Dinner I have ham, cheese sandwich will 1 piece of whole grain bread. Or Chili Beans with cheese and onions. I also will have a Burrito or a XLNT Tamale, Or I have a chicken breast baked. By the time I get my protein first I don't have much room for veggies or fruit. I do have a Tuna Salad too. I was told by my Nutritionist and my Dr both said this to me: In time there are no forbidden foods, just eat in moderation. Not all programs say this. I am the type of person that if I didn't have a food I will become obsessed with it. I don't always make all great decisions but I try. Also, I totally feel like my exercise is my saving grace. I also have nuts or peanut butter crackers for a snack in the afternoon. I am not a very good example I'm sorry. I still have no appetite at all. Food does not control me now!! Thank goodness I still can't eat much beef or eggs. I pretty much eat whatever I want just smaller amounts. If you would like to do emails instead of on this site please let me know and I will give you my email address. BTW I drink 2 or 3 cups of black coffee, and I drink Lipton Green Tea (bottled) Snapple Diet Peach Tea also. Also, I failed to mention, sometimes I just have a piece of cheese with 5 crackers for dinner. If I'm not hunger I just do a little Protien.

I have always taken my vitamins. I knew of 3 people that had their WLS back when the called it stomach stapling. None of them were stressed too take their vitamins daily without fail. One has to have IRON infusion often, one has gained ever bit back plus. The 3rd is my niece, who does weird rituals with her eating!! She will eat Kentucky Fried Chicken's mashed potatoes and gravy weeks at a time. She is NOT healthy at all. After my RNY I kind of went off on her about not taking her vitamins and to stop drinking sweet tea 3 or 4 a day. Now I understand part of it, I also have things that I eat for a long time. LOL Like now I can eat whole grain bread, so I take 1 piece of bread, cut it in half, mayo and 1 slice of swiss cheese and 1 slice of ham. I can eat this over and over again. Sometimes it is chili beans or tamales. I eat them over and over. I have always had a hard time with changes, so I tell my family it is just my OCD!! They all agree with me. Telling me that I am a creature of habit. TOTALLY True!!

Why do protein drinks taste awful?

All I can say I commend anyone that can tolerate ISOPURE!!! So gross. Atkins has pretty good protein drinks. Also, MYLOPLEX rich dark chocolate is good. Once I found Atkins that is where I stayed. Just buckle up and get er done. LOL

WOW!!! You are Beautiful! Your skin just glows!! I don't know if anyone has said this or not but CROSS ADDICTION is REAL!! When we can't have food to help us deal, sometimes we move to other things: alcohol, sex addiction, exercise. We all need to be careful here because it is a slippery slope. I am not saying this in a bad way. I just want you to be aware. My hubby said that he hoped I was addicted to sex. LOL NOPE but I do love to shop online and clothes, boots, and purses are my things that I overdo for sure!! Just be aware,

    BariatricPal Products

I have tried some of their products. The chicken noodle soup is great. Their Salted Pretzel protein bars are good also. I bought a lot of their food right after I had my RNY butt what I found was they like most everyone has rice and pasta in them, at first I couldn't and wouldn't eat Pasta, Rice or bread. These are things that I worked up too. I am over 4 years out and I just started using these products. As for Protein Powder, I love GENEPRO unflavored. I add it to my Espresso every day. One of their new releases is TIMOTHY"S ACID FREE COFFEE", it is nice flavorful coffee. Kind of expensive but ok. I have also bought Vitamins thru them I buy CELEBRATE. You can also go on the internet and search for items. The premade protein I like is ATKINS, the POWERCRUNCH protein bars are good also. Good Luck on your Journey and have a great day.

    Information

Hi and welcome. I am over 4 years out from my RNY. I lost my weight in 6 months. Here are my stats: HW 249 SW 232 LW 117 CW 125 to 130. I am able to exercise now and I have made this one of my priority's. I walk 3 to 4 miles 3 to 4 days a week I sure couldn't even come close to that before. I did have a few problems with Strictures and needed 5 ENDOSCOPES with 4 DILATIONS. But it was an easy fix. When you have your WSLS just remember to sip very slowly and walk it helps with the gas. Good Luck on your upcoming WLS. Again welcome

    Sleeping positions

When I had my RNY, I slept on my right side. I was always a stomach sleeper. It took awhile to get used to it. Since I lost weight I have a small pillow to put between my knees. After my WLS I couldn't sleep on my left side because that was the worse side for pain. Due to them using that side for the Instruments to go thru. Around 12 years ago I had to have back surgery, the only way I could sleep was on my right side. I have become a side sleeper. LOL One little ti-bit I have found if I have gas (and I have a lot of gas) if I use my PAPAYA ENZYMES (100% natural) and lie on my left side it helps me get rid of it. Also if I am sick to my stomach something about my left side helps so much.

    Eating after second week

Isn't it strange how each DR has their own guidelines. I had to drink Protein drinks for 2 weeks before my RNY and then for 4 weeks after. I was so afraid to eat!! I didn't want to mess up my last hope!! That is just how I felt. I definitely couldn't eat a steak, I still have problems with beef. Have a great evening.
  14. shedo82773

    No weight loss?

Just like was said above in order for your body to heal you need PROTEIN!! Yo get as much Protein as you can you might develop problems down the road. Our DR's know what they are talking about. They wouldn't say you need 60 grams of protein if they didn't mean it. You should try to do what your Dr has set up for you. They have studied these surgery's and they have everything set up to help make us successful. Good Luck!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

    Opioid Malabsorption

Man O Mighty Hon, I am a long time passed the 80's also. I am 61. Reading your post brought back one HELL of a Surgery happening. When I went in for my Panni in 2015, I had told everyone I seen that I had an allergic reaction when I was 7 YO during a Hernia Surgery. But I didn't know the name of it and my MOM had passed away. So in comes my anesthesiologist. I told her what I had told everyone else and said it was on my chart that I had a severe reaction to a Muscle relaxant they used. She told me that she would look at my chart and use the exact same stuff my Surgeon used for my RNY. Well, guess what, she didn't. I woke up with the tube down my throat unable to move anything!! I couldn't even open my eyes!! The anesthesiologist was using a Tazor shocking my temple and I couldn't do anything about it. I was in ICU for 8 hours!! They didn't remove the tube until I could move or speak. It was the WORST thing EVER!! And let me tell you I have been thru many different surgeries with that being the worst!!! So after I went home I kept thinking about how I was treated by that Anesthesiologist so I called her Supervisor, do you know what they did about that? NOT ONE DANG THING!!! That mishap cost my insurance $32,000.00!! The money was bad enough but to put me thru what she did was uncalled for!! As far as smoking Marijuana, it is legal here but still a Federal Law against it. I do not want that stuff. I am told that you can get CBD Oil that doesn't have the THC in it. But...I did try putting it in my Brownies. The only thing there is you can't control how much you are getting. I made the mistake of eating one brownie it didn't feel like it helped me so I ate another, WHOOPS I ODed on it. LOL It is a damned if you do and damned if you don't!!
  16. I also would want the plain wrappers. It isn't that I don't tell everyone about my WLS. But... I would love this idea.

    Opioid Malabsorption

Akitamom1, I can say I understand without any hesitant. I have had many reasons to be on pain medications: I have Fibromyalgia (which I have had for 19years)I had back surgery and now have rods and Cadabra bones in my spine. I have Osteo and Psoriatic arthritis plus the beginnings of Rheumatoid Arthritis. So yes I have been on many medications for them. I have lost some Cognitive due to METHADONE!! I used CDB without much help, I used Marijuana which works some but I can't deal with the hunger. I would be as big as a House in no time!! My Dr. (many years ago) even gave me Marinol (pill form of THC) It didn't work like smoking it. And it cost over $700 a month. Finally, I found a Dr that understood that I was taking TOXIC amounts of Vicodin!! So he gave me FENTYNOL Patches. 50 MGS, I wear my patch for a total of 4 days with changing it on the 4th day so it is good for 3 days. This has helped tremendously!!! Now, my Dr retired and I started seeing a DR that his office recommended. With Oregon having such HIGH ADDICTION issues. The FED'S are cracking down on opiate use. Now my Dr says that she must cross all of her Dits and T'S. She has me do UA's 5 months out of 6 when I see her. She also had me take a UA when I picked up my prescription. Talk about overkill!! So I was asking her what I could do if they take away my Fentynol, she told me that I would be on CYMBALTA. I then told her that since it is legal for Marijuana I would just have to go back on it. She looked at me with those knowing that a am a junkie's eyes!! Then told me this, You don't have that in you now do you? I said NO I HAVEN'T smoke it in years!! What a piece of work!! She should know by now after 5 UA'S that I am clean!! I also confronted her about my chart stating that I was addicted and an addict, she said oh no it doesn't say that, I showed her because I found it on my Patient Portal where you can look up info on your bloodwork and such. Of course, she was busted and she removed it but still!! I agree totally with you, we are treated like we just scored our dope on the corner!! I do want to say that I had the RNY over 4 years ago and it has helped me so much!! Don't toss it away without trying it. If you have any questions to ask me don't hesitate. I am sorry about all you are going thru. HUGS I'm sorry I didn't realize I had responded so many times. It must be all the drugs I am on LOL.

    Multivitamins??

If you ask me there are no better Bariatric Vitamins. I have used them for 4 years. Never had anything turn up bad on my Bloodwork!! Super easy due to the capsules!! Have a great day!! And Happy Holidays!!

    Multivitamins??

When I had my RNY they had me start with CENTRUM CHEWABLE VITAMINS. But finally I just went to a Bariatric Vitamins they are in capsules and I was told that you can open them up and sprinkle on applesauce. I have heard others say they used FLINTSTONE chewable's!! YUKKY I couldn't do them at all. I also would say if your DR has you taking Calcium make sure it is CALCIUM CITRATE in PETITES. Welcome to the OTHER side. LOL Hang on you will be on the BEST JOURNEY of your life!! Happy Holidays. And KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

    Eating months after the surgery

I'm over 4 years out and I definitely can eat more than in the beginning. NOT like I ae before my RNY by no means. I still eat small amounts. My morning I have 2 cups of black coffee and then I fix me an Espresso with added GENEPRO nonflavored Protein. ( BTW there are some that don't care for GENEPRO please check with your DR) I love it. Every blood test results have been great, but others on here are not fans. Lunch I have some mixed nuts, maybe a banana or frozen grapes in the afternoon. Dinner I have a half sandwich made with a little mayo 1 slice of chopped ham and 1 slice of swiss cheese or a Tamale, Chili beans or a homemade burrito made with refried (spicy) Beans, cheese onions, and some sour cream. My the HEALTHY wholegrain bread. My burrito is made with low-fat low carb tortillas. Sometimes I have a salad with lots of veggies and tuna added. I feel bad that I can't eat too much salad and then it goes bad before I can get it ate. But sometimes I just have to eat a salad. I miss the big everything salad. LOL Actually, I eat pretty much whatever I want just in Moderation. I say everyone has to find their NEW NORMAL. Have a great one!! And Happy Holidays!!
  21. CONGRATULATIONS on starting the best journey ever. Welcome and never feel like you can't ask any questions, there will be someone to answer them. Have a great Holiday Season!!!
  22. I had started the process with a Dr. from Eugene, Oregon. I did many of my requirements before they had a get together to explain the WLS. When I met with him personally, he wanted t do the Lap Band on me!! My hubby had the Lap-band for 13Years and it was a nightmare. So I decided it wasn't for me. Then my hubby had to have his band removed and we were referred to a DR 2 and 1/2 miles from home. We were discussing his procedure and I casually mentioned that I wished I could have WLS, the nurse said why can't you. I told her about the other DR. Well, I got an appointment and had my RNY on July 2, 2013. My hubby had to wait until Sept of 2013. His didn't go well. I have been successful with mine. It seems so strange that each Dr has their own guidelines. BTW my hubby eventually had his band removed and had the Sleeve done in June of 2016. (due to all of the scar tissue he didn't get to have the RNY). Good Luck to you!! Have a great Holiday!! And above all KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

    Mixing two proteins

The old stuff about GENEPRO. It can't be all be bad for sure. It would be pulled off the market!! If you check even BARIATRICPAL sells t on this site. I think this conversation has been a long drawn out thing. Check with your team ask them about GENEPRO.
  24. shedo82773

    Mixing two proteins

I was told by my team that our bodies can only handle up to 30gams at a time. But...u might want to ask your team what they think on this. Have a great day!!
  25. Personally, I have always taken Bariatric Vitamin. I know some DR's say FLINTSTONE with iron is OK. But...you go thru a surgery (a big one too) and due to needing vitamins for the rest of your life I have always took formulated Bariatric vitamins. I use CELEBRATE. They come in a capsule formula. My Dr told me that they can be broken apart and sprinkled on some food. Luckily I started out taking CENTRUM chewable I didn't last long because they were way too sweet for me. Then I went the other way, easy taking them too. I do think we need Bariatric vitamins why take a chance of not getting the vitamins we need. Good Luck with your upcoming surgery!! Have a great Sunday and KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!
