Wasting food mental issue
I work in an office where people often bring us restaurant breakfasts and lunches. I encourage all the other staff to take all the extras home, but when they don't, I bring it home and give it to my neighbors. They get all the Pasta, the bread, the Desserts, etc. We've been getting a lot of breakfasts lately and one common one is an individual quiche baked with a croissant crust. My neighbors love those. No guilt for me, treats for the neighbors. Win-win.

6 month non-surgical weight loss regimen?
You might want to doublecheck with your insurance. The ones with this requirement usually do not require any weight loss, just a medically supervised diet. My surgeon's office gave me a list of things my doctor needed to document at every visit. You might want to check with your surgeon to see if they have that.

Too big to fly?
Well, you could go Amtrak but it's 4 days there and 2 days back, and it's around $1200 for two people depending on when you go. With Amtrak you can get up whenever you want. You would be better off just flying.

Blue shield of California (medical)
You're just going to have to wait to see the surgeon first.

Just a little venting
My thought exactly. Wife wants table. Husband protests that "friend" likes booth. Wife mentions table to "friend", is promptly ignored and husband does nothing to back her up. "Friend" flirts with husband (yes, that's what I'm calling it). Husband gets mad at "friend" occasionally but then she's back. Tell husband he can go pound sand if this "friend" is more important to him than you are. That's how he's acting. If he says she isn't more important, then tell him to f-ing prove it.

12lbs in first 3 weeks?!? What am I doing wrong?!?
Okay, here's the deal. When you're stressed (such as the worrying you're doing now), your cortisol levels increase. High levels of cortisol cause weight retention and weight gain, particularly around the abdomen. You're self-sabotaging with stress. Put away the scale. Cortisol is a steroid. Steroids cause weight gain.

Driving myself to the hospital...bad idea?
My hospital staff offered to let me drive home. I declined. Even not on pain meds, I thought it was a bad idea (due to stiffness, soreness, etc.). I see no reason not to drive yourself, as long as someone else picks you up.

NSV shout outs
I went to a new eye doctor today (new to me, not new to the profession). His waiting area had three armed chairs, and a cushioned bench. The old me would have picked the bench, no question about it. Today, the new me thought, "let's give the chair a try". Slipped right in, no problem. I was sitting there grinning like an idiot.

Anyone skipped anti-DVT injections?
Usually a BMI over 50 will require several weeks of injections. Better to be safe than sorry ... My BMI was over 60, so that doesn't hold true with my surgeon. The reason I said to ask specifically about the person's own situation, is that I'm not real big on "everybody gets the same treatment no matter what." You never know, her surgeon could say that with her BMI and/or her mobility, she could safely skip it.

Help!
Measure your food. At this stage, my surgeon says 1/3 cup of food per meal, three meals a day, no Snacks. If you want salad, you can have 1/3 cup in addition to the regular 1/3 cup food. If you're having a hard time not snacking, try a sugar-free Jello, or drink more of whatever you're drinking every day.

Anyone skipped anti-DVT injections?
My surgeon only gives them in the hospital. Perhaps you could call your surgeon and ask what about your specific medical situation makes them necessary?

Pickle joy no more?
Mmmmm pickles. And pickled eggs... haven't made them in ages.

Anyone else with high BMI to start?
This. We need some special glasses that allow us to see what the mirror really shows, and not what our brain thinks is there. The closest I got to that was trying on colored contacts. The person looking back at me from the mirror wasn't ME, it was like seeing myself for the first time. Amazing what a simple eye color change can do,

I'm 3 wks post-op and had a beer
Your husband needs a big ol' whack upside the head with the clue-by-four. If that doesn't do it, catch him again on the backswing.

Anyone else NOT on a pre-op diet?
I didn't even have to stop carbs. Just one day of liquids.

end of year surgery and insurance coverage
Your authorization will have a "valid from" and "valid to" date on it. Should it be 30 days, for example, and you cannot get it done within that time frame, it usually only takes a phone call to get the auth extended.

3 month surgiversary, 82 pounds down
In November of last year, I told my doctor I wanted weight loss surgery. In December of last year, I met with the surgeon. Over the next six months, I met all my pre-op requirements. In June of this year, I was approved by insurance. Next available surgery date was 8/8/15. My weight was 403. Now, three months after surgery, I am down 82 pounds. EIGHTY-TWO. Never, ever, thought I would be where I am. Thought I would be one of those people that would struggle endlessly to lose one pound a month, if anything. Or, worse, thought I would lose ten pounds then nothing after that. Thought I would be standing outside the clubhouse and not be allowed in. Never thought I would lose so much interest in food. Never thought one-third of a cup of food would be enough. Vowed never to whine about not losing weight, that if I failed at this I would keep it to myself. And people who know me in real life would silently shake their head and wonder how I failed. I kept all my negativity to myself (for the most part). Sometimes, I have a hard time believing my new reality. Four large garbage bags of clothes donated out tell the story. Being able to fit easily into chairs that I used to struggle into tell the story. Having to move the drivers seat in my car higher because my butt doesn't take up as much space anymore tells the story. Being able to get into and out of my car easier tells the story. Not being able to wear my ring anymore tells the story. I'm looking forward to where my story is after the next three months!

Frustrated
At any other time in your life have you lost ten pounds a month? The larger you start, the more you tend to lose at first. Not as large, not as much.

HELP! (No, it's not really THAT dramatic????)
A teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa stirred into a spoonful or two of cool whip. A sugar-free popsicle (I like the tropical variety). A spoonful of ricotta cheese with some sugar-free torani syrup stirred in. A strawberry dipped in cool whip. Heck, one spoonful of frozen cool whip. Eggface also has a number of Desserts, including Cookies made from Protein bars. A teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa stirred into a spoonful or two of cool whip. Can't open any threads with an emoticon in the title
HA! I got in on Chrome! You can't keep me out now! I woke up with a cold today. I've had some beef broth, and a sugar-free popsicle. Just don't want anything else, my throat hurts so much. I wouldn't be surprised if I hit 83 before the end of the day! Seriously though, I am shocked and amazed at my progress. I was just certain this wouldn't work for me and I would be disappointed and be losing a pound a month or something.
