  1. I'm on day 5, and I promise it gets easier. Yesterday my co-workers had a pot luck, and I sat with them and had my shake and yogurt. Yes, it smelled soooo good, but after I had my shake, I didn't have any cravings. I just kept telling myself, "Focus on what you can have, not what you can't" It has been my mantra. I have found that getting out of my house has helped as well. Staying busy is key! How is everyone else doing?

Day 6 for me and yes, it gets easier! The no sugar/no coffee headache was horrible, but it let up around day 4. Smooth sailing for me so far! I am having an Arbonne chocolate shake for breakfast and lunch then a green salad with tuna or salmon or grilled chicken for supper. I try to eat the salad around 5-6 then have a Special K strawberry shake around 8 while watching tv. Oh, and I started adding 2 teaspoons of chia seeds and 1/2 a banana to my shakes. I think the add ins have really made a difference in making me feel fuller. Going to a restaurant in Galveston tonight to Celebrate a friends birthday. Guido's is famous for their toasted garlic-butter bread rounds, this is going to be brutal! I am going to they to focus on how delicious my iced Water and tossed salad with boiled shrimp is........

  2. Hi Heather

I do not like most of the Protein powders out there. From all the ones I have tried the best ones for me are: vanilla from Unjury, chicken Soup from Unjury and the best of all is unflavored protein from GENEPRO (you can find it in Amazon). Genepro is really good because 1 scoop (which is small compared to the rest, only 2 TBPS) has 30 grms. of protein, it mixes really well in cold and hot and it really is unflavored. I mix it with strawberry yogurt (100 cal. chobani) and you cannot even tell is there. I showed it to my NUT and she approved it. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Syntax offers a "sample" pack of all of their nectar flavors. I think you get 15-18 packets for under $20 delivered. You have to go thru their website though. I ordered mine Monday. Looks like a good way to find a flavor you like before committing to purchasing a whole container.

I'll get Vitamins today, I've been meaning to get it done. I'm excited for you too, the 16th is soon. Two weeks ago feels like yesterday.

My main worry is keeping my head clear so it doesn't affect my job, and losing the first five weeks because I'm going to the Grand Cayman Islands with work and I'd like to be down a little at least. Only 5 weeks, but it adds up! The trip is a perk only announced two weeks ago and it's a group and the dates march 5-9 were set. Shouldn't complain, but really bad timing!

    Anything weighing on you?

You will love Grand Cayman. We were there last year and really enjoyed ourselves. Bring your sun-block!

I guess my main problem is keeping this a secret from the kids. We have 4 grown sons and 3 daughter in laws and we are a very close knit family. They are all doing their own things, busy with kids, jobs, and I just do not want the boys to be worrying about their momma. I have a fantastic husband who is totally supportive and agrees with the no-tell decision. We live at the beach and a crowd of them are headed this way later today. I have to be able to pull off the mom's on a strict diet routine! Mom has never been on a diet that they know of, so things are going to get interesting.

  4. I've got crazy hiccups now. That's a little on ouchy side for sure! I didn't keep it a secret from anyone but I definitely had people telling me not to do it. Just diet and exercise more. Those people obviously didn't understand me. I would tell them I am doing it because it's the best choice for me and I'm happy that that is what works for them.

@@Justajenn, how are you feeling today?

  5. Yes, thank you! I'm trying to find these areas on the site. Most of the things just listed I had not been told. It's all been about drink Water and get in Protein.

I've found some high Protein Liquid Protein shakes I like that my Dr. said counts towards liquids.< /p>

But, most post-boppers are saying that your "taste" changes after surgery. The Syntrax nectar sample pack seems like a good idea since it will give you 18 flavors to try. Less than $20. And consider a flavorless high pro mix-in that you can add to whatever you are getting to go down after surgery.

  6. 10 days out, I'm 4 days out and feeling that way too!

Very excited but wow! I feel like I need to be surrounded by it right now but don't know anyone.

Besides Water and Protein shakes, I don't really have anything else for post-op. Was told to know what I like but to get very little since we don't know what my body will handle.

How are you preparing for post op first two weeks?

And, hey, you are NOT alone! We are all right here, in the same place you are, having the same worries. Reach out to a veteran. Look at their info under their names and message someone who looks like you/your situation. I did. She has been fantastic. Totally wide open. There is zero TMI factor! She even told me to bring extra cheap underwear as she went the diarrhea direction instead of the Constipation route. Those are the gory details us pre-oppers need! And I am on here all the time. Buddies, right?

I bought a Gummy multi Vitamin with a little Fiber from Walmart, bought Calcium and Iron chewable from Celebrate Vitamins. I stocked up on different pre-made broths. I bought a taste-free Protein add-in called GENEPRO on Amazon(to add to any Water, broths,Gatorade I can tolerate post-op) and found that I like a Protein shake from Arbonne Essentials. I just ordered the nectar sample pack from Syntax yesterday, 18 different flavors to try. A veteran from this site told me to have something on hand for the surgical incisions, like tips, neosporin, gauze and paper tape. Also, bring a pillow to hold over your stomach for the jolts on the ride home. I need to get some sugar-free Jello cups and sf popsicles (if I can keep the Hubs out of them!). I know this sounds like a lot, but we live rural and if I don't have it at the house, it takes an act of congress to get it! I get a little nuts about being prepared, my control issues run deep!

How's the lethargy today? I guess my dietician knew what she was talking about- no headache today (day three of pre-op diet)! I hope yours has left too.

Much better! I think I have hit the "sweet spot" in this diet! No more headache, no more weariness. I actually thought I was getting sick for a few days there. But, now everything is going just fine. And, I haven't stepped on the scales yet, but I KNOW I have lost weight! The top roll under my boobs is much smaller! Had to snap my bra on the next set of hooks this morning! YAY!

Yes, I have started the pre-op diet. It really isn't too bad, although I've had a headache for two days. The dietician said that should go away after three days.

I am dealing with the headache too. And lethargy! I just tumble around the house, no focus. I really feel for those that have to go to work everyday on the pre-op diet! Hang in there everyone!

  10. I have been doing a lot of research on the supplements/vitamins they expect us to take post diet. The Nut is really pushing the Celebrate package of Vitamins at $245. I bought a Gummy multi with Fiber at Walmart, and some sublingual B-12. I did order the calcium chews and Iron chews from Celebrate, but only because I couldn't find them any where else. I am still under $100, and I have everything that is in the $245 Celebrate pack.

  11. I'm set for February 3rd. Optifast preop diet begins Sunday. It still doesn't seem real to me. I think I've gone the full emotional circle from being excited to terrified, ready to tell everyone, deciding not to tell anyone, fear of the what-if; fear of failure, excited about not failing again, scared of the possible pain after surgery, not being able to enjoy the foods and drinks I used to, and glad I can enjoy them but not like I used to. So I talked to my surgeon and told him I had changed my mind. He spent quite a bit of time answering my questions and assuring me I was doing the right thing for me. My husband is super supportive and we are looking forward to a life we haven't experienced yet. We were watching an ad for a cruise and the guests were snorkeling, scuba diving and dancing the night away. We both decided that was now on bucket list! What have you added to your list?

Charlotte, you summed up my experience to a T! I have also decided not to tell anyone. I am going to Tijuana to have mine done and I just do not want to handle all the negative comments! I am set for the day after you, so lets keep in touch thru all this! Good luck and Enjoy that shake today!
