    Carb cycling anyone?

Steve, what are you eating? Seriously! A cup of raw kale has 7g, 1/2c skim plus milk has 8g. Even 6 almonds have almost 3g. I can't imagine 8 carbs a day being possible without eliminating veggies. Are you just all meat?

    Carb cycling anyone?

Miss Mac: how on earth do you keep your carbs under 30?! Even on my strictest days I can't come close to that! Wow! Do you guys feel like it affects your energy levels at all?

    Carb cycling anyone?

Has anyone tried carb cycling type diets after surgery? I am more than a year out, healthy, etc. Just curious if anyone has tried it and what your thoughts may be.

    Body fat measurement frustration

Just to update what's been happening: I found a well-reviewed body fat scale (the electrical magic kind). Followed the directions and got my readout. 23% body fat on that one. Boom! Clearly this one is right ???? It put the whole extra skin issue into perspective for me.
  5. Over the last year, I've gotten hooked on fitness. Who'd have thought?! Started running, 2 rounds (6 months) of p90x, and now found body beast and loving it. The weight loss has stopped and I'm ok with that, I'm 5'4 and 138. I told myself that I would measure my progress now by body fat percentage, my muscles, and non weight loss goals. That all sounds lovely, right? So I had a measurement done free of charge back on Nov 1, the kind with the bare feet and hand analysis (some kind of magic, don't ask me how it knows) and it said 27%. I was ecstatic! I had finished one round of p90x3 and was feeling tough. Problem: I can't get that test for free again. So I looked online for options, found a test to do at home via body measurements, and grabbed the tape measure. Re-measured a dozen times. And got the result of 33%. My hubby explained (while I had a tearful tantrum) that my measurements are messed up because of all of the extra skin, so this test is not accurate for people in my situation (yes there's a large surplus of extra skin) So how do I see my progress?! I am a person who needs numbers!! And now I feel disgusted all over again with the skin issues I've been trying so hard to accept (ok, tolerate)

Tight band in the morning - what to eat

When I was banded I had this problem a lot in the morning. I found that hot tea helped, I'd sip it slow and let my band "warm up". Sometimes it took a couple of hours

    Early menopause and other disasters

I think doc is blaming the change in body fat vs the percentage. And I agree about the joint problems from being fat: my tendons and ligaments wouldn't be stretched out if I had never been huge. I would not take hormone replacement because of my complicated gyn history and breast cancer risk. And of course, is rather have these issues than continued morbid obesity issues. I just really (childishly) imagined "congratulations! You've hit your ideal weight! Now everything is perfect!!"
  8. Only me. I can't even make this up. Quick stats, for reference. I fell in love with working out in this past year, I was sleeved 2/14. Running and p90x, and I'm kinda proud of my muscles now. I was at 27% body fat a couple months ago when I got measured. I'm so healthy, right? Right??? Except that now I have a bum hip from all of the exercise, which my doc attributes to the extreme weight loss. It would seem our tendons and ligaments don't shrink back very well ( think old rubber bands) and it makes us wls patients especially prone to connective tissue injury. I'm still running (don't tell my doc!) but I've modified the Spider-Man jumpy things from p90x. But wait, there's more!!!!! Now, I have put myself into early menopause. That's right folks! All of my hard work has caused me to burn off too much estrogen (ironic for a former fat girl who's had 3 endometriosis surgeries and infertility) and I lack the fat to hold enough estrogen in my body. So now I have blanket drenching night sweats, hot flashes, breast pain... I'm 38. I'm not ready for this. I'm taking black cohosh and evening primrose. My doc recommended them. He says this is happening because of the wls. I thought I was supposed to be happily ever after!!!!!!!! Ugh. I just have to laugh, otherwise I'll get so frustrated my head might pop
  9. Extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil on the lips! (And the hands, and the feet, and the loose skin and the thinning hair...yeah, pretty much everywhere)

    Gym

I despise the gym. I run outside, bundled up lately!) and I do p90x3. I'm 8 weeks into my second p90x round and been running since May (sleeved in 2/14)

    No energy

You still need rest! You've put your body through major trauma, plus it takes anesthesia and those nasty pain meds quite a while to leave your body entirely. And then you're so restricted on caloric intake! I remember the early on exhaustion. It's normal, so just try to ride it out and be kind to your body. Take your time to heal, the rest will come
