    NSV and my boss

Great Job and I love his comments. I think sometimes people aren't sure what to say and have it be a compliment. ~LA
  3. My BMI was 31 when I started the prediet. I lost 10 lbs in the 2 week preop diet so technically I was below 30 when I actually had the surgery. I am a year and a half out and I have lost 45 lbs and did it all within 4 months. I have been at goal over a year. I do still eat really well during the week and let loose on the weekends. My BMI now is 21 and haven't had to worry about losing too much. I couldn't be happier with my decision. I workout 6 days a week. I still take all my Vitamins and just had my blood work done. Everything is good. I don't have saggy skin. Your face will show more wrinkles but I just get botox now I did lose hair between 3-7 months. It grows back. I also chose not to tell anyone except one friend and my husband. Best decision. I tried so many diets and always gained it back so I didn't want to hear from people how I didn't need to do it. I am not going to lie I was really scared to do it. I mean this is a major decision but I am glad I did and so very thankful I didn't have complications or throw up. Good luck- LA

    Struggling truck driver post op

Starbucks has a Protein box with a hard boiled egg, cheese, and Peanut Butter in it, Protein shakes, and an awesome Zesty chicken salad. I also get the oatmeal and add unflavored protein to it. McDonalds you could do an egg mcmuffin. I usually take off the top piece. I always have 2 Protein Bars in purse in case I can't get something. But I think a insulated lunch bag or cooler is your best bet since this will be an every day thing. I got this one as it has an ice pack. Containers for smaller meals, and a shaker http://www.amazon.com/FitPak-Portion-Control-Container-Reusable/dp/B00NSM088G?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_bia_detailpage_o01_s00

    Regret

From a suggestion I read this before my surgery: The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery, Second Edition It talks about how almost everyone goes thru the regret stage so I warned my husband before hand. I didn't throw up or have the slimes. I have to admit I have been one of the lucky one's but there was still a day I was thinking I was an idiot. Oh yeah that's because I was. One week out I thought I was wonder woman and over did it. Work, laundry, grocery shopping and then ...didn't drink enough and ended up in the ER because I was dehydrated. 3 bags of IV later. The docs and everyone told me to make sure I got enough Water so I blame myself but I was still regretting it that day. I think it's tough to know what your journey is going to be like. Kinda like child birth. Which was a horrible ordeal for me and then tons of complications afterwards. I would do both over again for the same results I have today Good luck- LA
  7. You will definitely be able to eat more as time goes by. You will also be able to eat more variety. I couldn't eat steak for the first year and I love steak so I was a little sad. But no problems now. You will still have to be careful how much you eat but you get used to it. I eat about a cup of food at 1.5 years out. Even now once in a while I over do it and then I am mad at myself. But I just try to order something that makes good left overs. It is nice that a meal from the restaurant is going to give you 3-4 now ~LA

    Vitamins during Post Op

I take calcium chew, multivitamin, Vitamin D, B12, and Biotin. I don't need the iron.

    Working out/exercise......

I don't think I could have done that much at 2 weeks. I remember I could feel it in my stomach if I pushed it. Take it slow. The worst thing you could do is hurt yourself. Also make sure you get enough Water. I made the mistake of over doing it and end up in the ER from dehydration. Not fun. It will take 6-8 weeks to heal. Good luck LA

Ideas to keep wedding ring on

I just didn't wear mine until I was at goal for over 6 months and then I had them resized and redipped so they look brand new. I am so bad now because I go to crossfit I hardly ever wear them and my rings are beautiful. ~LA

    NSV

That was one of the last things I did. It can be really expensive having to rebuy clothes and resize rings Nice work. After a year at goal I also went and had my drivers license redone. At least that was only $20 BTW JamieLogical thanks for the tips on the combat crunch bars. My new favorite. I was never a fan of the Quest so it's nice to add in another brand that has so many flavors available. ~LA

    Protein bars ..

I have to admit I still have shakes and Protein bars and I've been at goal for over a year. My nutritionist and surgeon are ok with it. Shakes don't hold me over as long as a bar does but I like to mix it up from day to day. I just ordered some combat crunch bars from Amazon prime. I never liked the Quest ones. You have to find what works for you long term. This isn't a diet for one year. It's a life style and if your not into cooking and making everything from scratch and have a sweet tooth like me this has helped me stay at goal. Good luck- LA

to snack, or not to snack?

My nutritionist and surgeon go by the 5 mini meals rules as well. Protein first. And if you stay up late then by all means have another meal.

What if I can't do it?

I thought preop was harder than post so if you can make it thru that with a break up you got the rest of this no problem. ~LA

    Constipation

Celery and oatmeal I have on a regular basis and if that doesn't work I have Miralax. But thanks for the idea of radiant Kale chips. I haven't tried them. I guess I better head to Trader Joes. ~LA

    Scared to eat different foods

7 weeks out just stick to Protein and veggies for a while. There's no rush to add in the carbs unless you find you need them. I actually needed to add in oatmeal to keep me regular. If you don't have enough energy then you might need to add in the complex carbs. Even at 17 months post op I don't eat bread, Pasta or rice. But on the weekends I do splurge with some pancakes or something sweet as that is my vice. I've been at goal over a year and found what works for me. And I still have shakes and Protein Bars but only the one's I truly like and for convenience. I have a weight range to stay in and if I push the top of it I cut out the carbs for a few days. Protein always comes first. Good luck- LA

    Exercise?

You'll start by walking and then increase it as you feel more energy. I think weight training and heavy cardio was around 6-8 weeks and again start slowly. The last thing you want to do is hurt yourself and be out totally for a while. Everyone recovers a little differently. I didn't have a ton of energy but had been working out 6 days a week prior to surgery so I was in a huge hurry to get back at it. Be smart and drink your Water. That will help. ~LA
  20. I am in Chicago on a biz trip all by myself so I ordered room service. I really wanted Chicago pizza (Mind you I am at goal and ran 9 miles so I could have it) I thought it was just going to be a mini pizza. I mean it was room service not delivery. Imagine my surprise when an entire pizza and a Water came. So I enjoyed my one slice (didn't even eat all of it) and put the cart out in the hall. I got a call an hour later from the Manager of room service who was concerned that I didn't like the food. What a great Customer Service focused hotel. I am sure glad my company paid $31 for me to enjoy 3/4 of a slice. I told her it was wonderful I just wasn't super hungry Usually I take home left overs and no one notices what I eat. Ohh the struggles of WLS. JK, loving it still after 16 months. Have a fabulous day- ~LA

    Resolution of IBS

I had it as well probably 3 days a week on average. The worst part was the fear. I couldn't eat anything before a flight or important meeting. It was horrible. I haven't had one single issue since surgery 16 months ago. I would do it all over again just for that. I was self pay so I feel like I got a bonus. I no longer carry diarrhea medicine in my purse. I am no longer afraid to live my life. And living it as a size 0 is icing on the cake. ~LA

    Telling people

Only my husband and one friend know. I had to also have my hernia repaired so when I took time off of work I told everyone it was for that since my insurance covered that and not my sleeve. I just tell everyone that asks about my weight loss that I see a nutritionist and focus on a Protein and produce diet. I suppose the beauty of having a lower BMI is that no one ever thinks twice about it. I've lost and gained weight so many times with weight watchers, nutrisystem, hcg. They are used to it. I've been on maintenance a year now and it's so much easier. I am not starving all the time. I did his for me and grateful everyday I decided to. Good luck- LA
