We seem to have 3 vocal camps running around. Low carb Keto. Low carb non keto. Vegetarian. Everyone counts calories.

jroberts68 reacted to Introversion in Post op. Surgery 7/6. Home today and gained 8pounds
You received bags of intravenous fluids before, during, and after surgery. These bags of IV fluids weigh a considerable amount and add to the Water weight you're retaining.
My advice is to stay off the scale for a few weeks. There's no way you physiologically gained 7 pounds of fat unless you consumed 25000 calories in the 24 hours since surgery. It's Fluid retention.
    Good luck to you.

I'm not sure why peeps are told to drink so much Water at beginning cause it's not possible...only sips of water. I couldn't drink a cup of water until after 1 year. Get your Protein Shakes in and yogurt and apple sauce don't worry about solid food until later. I food I lost about 10 to 12 pounds a month. It starts to add up. Don't worry about the solid food that will come but Protein shakes and Vitamins so important. I think the extra Calcium and vit d helped with my weight loss and also walking. I started exercising on a mini trampoline after losing 50 pounds...5 months post op and that helped with firming and keeping metabolism going. Good luck!! Try not to worry bout the weight loss it will happen and only weigh yourself once a week

So, I have come to the conclusion that this surgery is like being pregnant all over again...you are always tired, everything hurts... food tastes disgusting, eating just a little bit can send you running to the bathroom. And don't even get me started on the smells. I can barely walk into my kitchen because I can smell everything in there and it is all gross...
    So weird...

Are you having the sleeve or bypass? I had the bypass so I can only speak from my experience. I will not sugar coat it for you. The recovery is rough. You will be in a lot of pain when you wake uo, mostly from the gas they insert on you. I got very scared because I did not expect to be in so much pain but consider all the trauma your body is experiencing. My suggestions are to make friends with the nurses. They have the drugs. I lived on oxycodone every four hours and morphine in between for the first two days. Also, walk as much as you can, that moves the gas and it will make you burp or pass gas but it will make you feel better. Also, you will be hooked up to fluids so expect to get up to pee fairly often. I had to go to the bathroom every two hours on the clock. Lastly, just take it easy. You were drilled for quite a while about everything that you have to do post surgery but, truth of the matter is, you will not be able to accomplish many of them the first weeks. I am 2 weeks post op and I still can't meet my Water or Protein intake. It happens. Don't stress. It will get better, I promise. If you have any questions, you can always shoot me a private message and I will try to help as much as I can. Hang in there!

I chose the sleeve because I've never had GERD, I am only pre diabetic, and it had the same long term success rate.
I was sleeved 15 days ago and have no regrets. The pain for me was minimal. I'm healing well and can get everything in easily (liquids). It's not always a breeze. Sometimes I'm hungry and mad I can't eat. Sometimes I don't care one bit about eating. It's a journey and not an event. I was so focused on surgery, I thought that after surgery was going to be a breeze. It's work. Both surgeries. They also both work well if you use them properly. I'm still learning and have much more to experience. I wish you luck with choosing your surgery!

My surgeon recommended the RNY to me. I took his advice and had it done 7 1/2 months ago. I am doing great (no complications) and would do it again in a heartbeat. My only regret is that I didn't have it done sooner.

Wow, that's some nerve asking a question of the sort. Even if he was trying to joke, but it doesn't sound like it. My encouragement for you is to find a way to let negative comments roll off your back and not take it to heart. It's VERY HARD to do, because words can slice and dice us up, but if this is how people are in your community (area), than that's maybe what you might need to try to do??? Fight the depression, it wants to leave you in despair and you're too priceless to be wallowing in the dark. Everyone is.
