    Did you name your sleeve?

That's hilarious! I have never even thought about it!

Deciding to keep my sleeve quiet....

At first I didn't want anyone but immediate family to know, but one benefit of needing to wait so long to get it done (I've been waiting since last October) is that I have actually gained the confidence to tell people. I am proud of my decision so I don't care what other people think about it. That being said I have told quite a few people and have not come across a negative opinion, everyone seems to be genuinely supportive, I have told co-workers, friends and acquaintances. Don't rule out telling people, they may surprise you and the support they will give you helps.
  6. It depends on your surgeon. Most definitely you will be having heparin or something similar while you are in hospital, but from what I've read and researched it depends on your surgeon whether you will be needing to continue the injections while at home. My surgeon does it on a case by case bases, depending on how high risk you are. I will most likely be on injections at home, as I am on the larger side.

    Any Aussie sleevers?

Hey! I'm australian, looking to get sleeved early November, like you waiting for my insurance waiting period to be over. I met with my surgeon early November last year and am booked to see him early September to start all the pre-op testing and hopefully book in a date for surgery. From my experience, the wait will drag by for the first couple of months, and then out of nowhere, you've only got a couple of months to go. Good luck on your journey and I'm here if you want a buddy

    Someone slap me please!

At the end of the day we need to do what works for us. This may be completely eliminating all processed foods, sugar, pasta, bread etc from your diet or allowing yourself small portions of them occasionally, I don't think either one is wrong, but then again I have not yet been sleeved and I may feel differently when I am, just my two cents.
  9. Just curious on how people found sleeping post-op. I imagine sleeping on your back would be recommended, but If I sleep on my back I wake up with a really sore back so I prefer to sleep on my side. Just interested in how others managed in the firsts few weeks.

    Sleeping

I think this will probably be what I'll be doing, I'm not comfortable at all flat on my back so I think I'll be in my recliner or with a heap of pillows to prop me up in bed.

    Sleeping

I guess everyone feels differently after surgery, some have no issues and some do. I guess I won't really know if I'll have a problem until after I'm sleeved

    Sleeping

That's a relief to hear, I was thinking I'd need to camp out on my recliner so I wasn't flat in my back until I'd healed a little. Thanks for the help

    So I've noticed...

You look amazing! Not only thinner but younger too! It's amazing how being large can make us look older than we are.

    Freaking out!

You are most certainly not the only one that feels this way. Yes we are doing this for our health but we all are also doing it to look better, to no longer stand out for all the wrong reasons.
  18. I'm going with the sleeve as it's what my surgeon recommends for me and I trust his advice, he will not do bands. Another reason I'm getting the sleeve is I have cousins who got it done so I have that support from people who will know what I've gone through.

    Time off work for recovery

I am planning on taking 8 weeks off. I'm a nurse on a pretty physically heavy ward so I want to ensure I give myself plenty of time to recover. I am also worried and covering for things like energy slumps and not getting enough fluids

    No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!

Anything with the words "fat free" I thought was ok, later to realize that fat free didn't make it healthy. More often than not fat free food is loaded with sugar or sodium to give it flavor.

    Random every day questions/thoughts.

My cat is a bed hog that likes to sleep right in the middle and gets cranky when I move around too much. Anyone else have this problem?
  22. I am very difficult to put an IV in, last time I had surgery, they knocked me out with gas after trying twice and then put in, not sure if this is an option for this surgery as am pre op, but you can only ask.

    6 month wait...

I had to wait a year (started November last year) At the time I didn't think I could wait that long and that the year would go incredibly slowly, and at times it did but now I'm less than 4 months away, seeing my surgeon in September to book in for appointments (bloods, abdo ultrasound and 2 dietician consults) and then hopefully getting a surgery date. I never thought I would say or think this but I am glad that I have had this waiting period, it has given me time to research and prepare myself mentally and physically for what I have ahead. Hang in there, it will go quickly enough
