  1. I have gone back to the pre-op diet in order to break a stall. You can google, "5 day pouch reset" for more info. In a nutshell it's just going back to pre-op diet for 5 days.
  2. Yes, you can try. Or just go back on your pre-op diet. I recently broke a long stall by going back to pre-op. Lost 6 lbs in 3 days on it so far. So yeah, it might be what you need to break through it.
  3. Technically, no it can't go back to being what it was before as 80% of it has been removed and the stomach does not regenerate. However, what can happen is that with time and poor diet you can create a new sense of what "full" is by overeating. You can reverse this by going on a 5 day pouch reset or by doing your pre-op diet again.
  4. You have nothing to fear from the surgery. It's a breeze. It's the plastics that will be a major surgery that will take some time to recover from. Most people can go back to work in just days after gastric sleeve surgery. My surgery was almost painless. It just felt like someone punched me in the stomach.
  5. Sounds like a stricture but you said they didn't find anything. I would get a second opinion just to be sure.
  6. Talk to your doctor. Most doctors are moving away from the band as it has too many complications and requires additional maintenance. I agree with the other person who said it looks like you are seeking permission. It doesn't matter what anyone says or thinks. All that matters is your choice. You have to do what you feel is right for you.
  7. So before my surgery I loved eating Subway. So now that I'm post surgery I of course can't have the sandwiches because of the carbs. However, I've found a substitution, Subway salads. They are awesome! I tend to get a veggie one and add pepper jack cheese and possibly a meat, usually either ham, turkey or bacon. For dressing, I love their chipotle. It takes me 2-3 days to eat the whole thing but it's good. If you are going to get one I would recommend you skip the tomatoes as they tend to leak their Water content which ruins the salad. Don't get salt and pepper on it either as the salt draws out the water as well.
  8. Any updates? I had the sleeve and in 7 months I've lost 142 lbs. So I would like to compare that to your bypass. I've head that you lose more with bypass. Congrats!
  9. @ProudGranny I haven't quite got to 170 lbs loss yet. So far I've lost 142 lbs. I will eventually though! Yeah it would be interesting to study the different attitudes toward weight loss surgery among the sexes. I know for myself I've never viewed weight loss surgery as shameful or something to hide. I think what is shameful is the lengths we all went with regard to binging and hiding our eating disorders from people. Eating a whole box of twinkies or an entire birthday cake is shameful. Taking steps to become healthy is not shameful in my book. And I don't want to send the wrong message to other obese people who are struggling. But to each their own.
  10. You might try magnesium supplements. However, if I don't do laxatives once a week then I can go weeks without a BM. And when I do finally have one my entire digestives feels like it's cramping. I then usually have to throw up at the same time I'm on the pot. But laxatives once a week makes it so that it doesn't hurt like that.
  11. What kind of juice are you drinking? If it's fruit juice then you are sabotaging your weight loss because fruit juice is mostly sugar. Did you do a 2 week pre-op diet? Most people who do a 2 week pre-op diet tend to lose more weight than those who do not. Get a notebook and log every single thing you eat. You really need to pay close attention to your carbs as they can really sneak up on you.
  12. You can probably go but you will have to explain why you aren't eating or drinking anything and why you act lethargic. I really don't understand the female mind frame of always trying to keep weight loss surgery a secret. Men usually don't have this problem.
  13. Go back to the pre-op diet for a while. Also, increase your exercise. Make sure to cut out the carbs because they will sabotage your weight loss.
  14. Go ahead and prepare yourself mentally that you are going to have loose skin. It's just a side effect of losing weight and there's nothing that can be done to prevent it. The answer is plastic surgery after you have reached your goal weight.
  15. Not quite sure what you mean? Do your best to avoid temptation entirely. You got guts to do it so close to the holidays when temptation is it's strongest.
  16. To each their own, but losing weight slowly does not prevent saggy skin. You can blow up a balloon to max and slowly let out the air and it will never go back to being in the same state as it was prior to being blown up. My personal opinion is that as long as you get below 25 BMI then you are fine. If your goal weight puts you over 25 BMI then you are still considered overweight.
  17. Omeprazole, as mentioned above. You mind you will need to be on it for life.
  18. Exactly. I smoked for 20 years, anywhere from 1 1/2 packs to 3 packs a day. I quit with e-cigs. I'm sick to death of the fear porn being leveled against e-cigs. It's like people are fanatically obsessed with destroying the one option that can actually save lives by getting people off of cigarettes.
  19. Just a bit of a rant, I keep reading people post over and over again how they can't afford the surgery if they have to pay out of pocket. Let's get real for a second. Such claims are patently false. Thousands of people go to Mexico each year and pay for their own surgery. Countless others do self-pay in the states. Not everyone is wealthy yet the majority of people who are dedicated to the surgery will find a way to pay for it if they must. I managed to raise enough for my surgery in Tijuana without having a steady income. You can do it as well just change your mind set and don't let obstacles stop you. If all your avenues are denied then you can save enough money to have your surgery out of pocket.
  20. I'm skeptical of such claim. Because your liver naturally stores sugar called glycogen that the body uses as fuel FIRST when you start to diet. It takes 3-6 days to use up the store of glycogen before you will even begin to lose fat. So your liver does shrink when the glycogen reserve is used up. Additionally, morbidly obese people suffer from what is called "fatty liver disease", meaning they have actual fat deposits in the liver itself. Nearly 100% of all morbidly obese people suffer this condition. As a result, the liver is humongous compared to a person of normal weight. The pre-op diet will in fact shrink these deposits, which also produces a smaller liver. The liver is such a problem because it is easily damaged. Plus I've seen weight loss surgery documentaries where doctors have turned down patients because their livers were too big and it was usually revealed that the patient did not follow the pre-op diet. Just from my experience in talking with people, patients whose doctors do not require a pre-op diet lose less weight over-all than those who do perform a pre-op diet. Other benefits include being already over their carb/sugar addiction as the patient has gone 2 weeks without them.
  21. First week - all the Water, tea or sugar free drinks you want except no soda, all the broth you want, Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch, and all the sugar free Jello and popsicles you want. dinner was lean meat on a bed of leafy greens. Second week - All the water, tea or sugar free drinks you want except no soda, all the broth you want, Protein Shakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the sugar free jello and popsicles you want. I lost 25 lbs.
  22. Honestly, I don't think we will ever see ourselves as "normal". I think most morbidly obese people suffer from a form of body dysmorphia where we will always see ourselves fat, even when we do lose the weight. I still have not come to terms. I still want to hang on to and wear clothes that are too big for me. I don't feel comfortable in wearing clothes that fit. I still won't look at my body naked and will probably never be at the point where I can walk around without a shirt, let alone walk around naked in front of someone. That's just how it is. I guess counseling may help but you never know.
  23. It's Water weight. To gain one pound requires 3,000+ extra calories. So if you gained 4 lbs overnight or what not then I doubt you consumed an additional 12,000 calories that day. So it's got to be water weight. Just relax. Drink plenty of water.
  24. There's no such thing and especially not when you are morbidly obese like most of us where. You should not be trying to "slow down" because your body will naturally do it. With time your weight loss will naturally slow down and then stop altogether. After it stops if you are not at goal you will have to lose weight by increasing your exercise and activity. So for at least the first year you should be focused on losing as much weight as possible.
  25. It's all head hunger. Did you do the 2 week pre-op diet? If so then that usually clears out much of that as you are no longer eating carbs. After surgery you aren't going to have real hunger from anywhere from 6 months to a year or more after surgery.
