Vacation NSV
Just leaving from an awesome vacation! I'm 4 months post op and I didn't need the belt extender on the plane and I was able to go on every ride in the park comfortably!! Also made my "new me" debut on Facebook and loved the WOW comments. Also loved walking 20k-25k steps per day without too much discomfort!

Surgery around the holidays
I had my Surgery just 3 days after Thanksgiving. My PreOp diet was 3 Meal Replacements and one real meal. The 2 days before I did only meal replacements and then on thanksgiving did 2 with a larger meal with some outlaw food like stuffing! Then Friday back to just meal replacements. Didn't gain any weight. Just budgeted very carefully. If you are doing a lot of travel, I would buy some shelf stabilized milk and a Blender Bottle. Then you can do Protein shakes in the car and on the road. Which hospital in Boston? I live just outside, I workk at Mass Gen and had my surgery at Beth Israel.

Unjury Protein
Today I finally found a super bass that wasn't made disgusting by the unflavored powder. It does have a flavor a nasty one! But this thai ginger infused broth I got today covered entirely it was awesome!

Steri Strips?
They're off along with the nasty band aid dirt. Thanks! They came off really easy after a shower. Scars don't look bad a all! Thanks for the advice!

Good savory liquids
I'm so excited. I'm 13 days pot op and still on liquids. Beginning to hate anything sweet. Also been hating the "unflavored" Protein powder. Nothing masks that taste. Then today I was looking at the Soups and found Thai ginger infused broth. YUM only 30 calories for a cup. Only needed a half cup (diluted with water) AND it wasn't impacted by the powder! Probably the best thing I've consumed since surgery and 21g protein. Not bad!

American board certified. Important?
Board certification is very important. It means the physician/surgeon have to keep their skills current, complete continuing education, etc. if they aren't board certified, depending on the state, they may have no requirements for quality improvement or continuing education.

Catheter problems.
I had the same problem. They only had to straight cath me 2 times, but it really took until the third day to be able to "go" properly. Same thing happened after my daughter was born. Hang in there!

Anybody having surgery the 24th of Nov? What a countdown buddy?
I find that I weigh in the AM before I get in the shower. Every scale is different. I think the ones in the Drs office are always unkind. Plus you have clothes on and aren't "empty".

Has anyone had any positive post op experiences?
I'm 12 days out. I'm down 16 lbs (24 since pre-op). I had a very easy time. I took Tylenol twice the frat day home and have needed nothing since. I've been walking and trying to get 4,000 steps a day. I'm napping a bit and that's good too! I feel blessed that I've had such an easy time.

Feel like I'm going to explode
Prune juice helps me I'm 10 days post-op and I couldn't tolerate the liquid colace. 2-3 oz a day.

I would not consider YOU a successful WLS patient!
You are so right CowgirlJane!! Time to find a new doctor! I work in healthcare and one of the best things you can do is get a second opinion. I would look for a PCP with an interest in WLS. Maybe ask your program for a referral. Thinking about you healthcare providers like other service folks, like mechanics or lawyers. They are only people... And they have their prejudices. Find a doc who believes in WLS and then they will be in a better place to help you. You can fire a doctor!

What was your breaking point?
After years of fighting with food and yo yoing all over I got serious about exercise and nutrition. For 6 months I walked 10-12k steps a day and ate 1200 or fewer calories. Didn't lose an oz. went to the doctor and said enough is enough.

Steri Strips?
Hey all. I'm day 10 post op. My port sites were stitched then covered with steri strips. They told me that they'd start to fall off at 7-10 days. They are all still there and really itchy. Any advice?

Packing
In addition to Chapstick, biotene if they let you have it for the dry mouth, a nail file, and slippers. I just wore 2 gowns to walk the halls. The listerine wafers are also great.

Migraines and bypass surgery
I was really worried about this. My migraines are triggered by stress, weather, and food. When I drop out the carbs and focus on Protein that really helps. My doctor said that the rapid melt zomig would not be contra indicated. I'm 9 days out and so far so good.

Sleeved 12/5/14...post op diet
The chicken soup flavor from unjury is excellent. I can't handle the unflavored broth. It does have a flavor and it isn't pleasant.
