  1. Just leaving from an awesome vacation! I'm 4 months post op and I didn't need the belt extender on the plane and I was able to go on every ride in the park comfortably!! Also made my "new me" debut on Facebook and loved the WOW

comments. Also loved walking 20k-25k steps per day without too much discomfort!

  2. I had my Surgery just 3 days after Thanksgiving. My PreOp diet was 3 Meal Replacements and one real meal. The 2 days before I did only Meal Replacements and then on thanksgiving did 2 with a larger meal with some outlaw food like stuffing! Then Friday back to just meal replacements. Didn't gain any weight. Just budgeted very carefully.

If you are doing a lot of travel, I would buy some shelf stabilized milk and a Blender Bottle. Then you can do Protein shakes in the car and on the road.

Which hospital in Boston? I live just outside, I workk at Mass Gen and had my surgery at Beth Israel.

  3. I'm so excited. I'm 13 days pot op and still on liquids. Beginning to hate anything sweet. Also been hating the "unflavored" Protein Powder. Nothing masks that taste.

Then today I was looking at the Soups and found Thai ginger infused broth. YUM only 30 calories for a cup. Only needed a half cup (diluted with water) AND it wasn't impacted by the powder! Probably the best thing I've consumed since surgery and 21g Protein. Not bad!

  4. I had a catheter put in during surgery. And now that it's out I forgot how to pee. So I need to get a straight catheter put in every 6 hours. They said it will take a couple of tries and it will be fixed.

This better not be permanent. Anyone else had this problem?

I had the same problem. They only had to straight cath me 2 times, but it really took until the third day to be able to "go" properly. Same thing happened after my daughter was born. Hang in there!

  5. My mother had terminal cancer and at the phase when her doc gave up on her she pleasantly said "well, it's not your neck on the line " and she found a different one. She lived another 25 or so years. My point is that it is OUR bodies, our health...our necks on the line. I see doctors like mecanics....awesome to find a great one but in the end me as a person is what's imprttant not the mecanic.

So, you DO belong here, you ARE a success story and you DO encourage many. What does the mecanic know about all that?

I just encourage you to not let some doctor impact you so much emotionally. I really believe my mom's git er done attitude contributed to her long survival even after stage 4 hopeless cancer diagnosis. Turns out the mecanics don't know everything.

You are so right CowgirlJane!! Time to find a new doctor!

I work in healthcare and one of the best things you can do is get a second opinion. I would look for a PCP with an interest in WLS. Maybe ask your program for a referral. Thinking about you healthcare providers like other service folks, like mechanics or lawyers. They are only people... And they have their prejudices. Find a doc who believes in WLS and then they will be in a better place to help you. You can fire a doctor!
