Auntiex3 got a reaction from Brigiter in Your straw story: 5 days post op, just discovered straw dies work for me
I have been wanting to drink from a straw, but have been scared to. I don't think it would bother me, but they stressed not to do it so much that I worry about it. Plus I read on some chat one day, that it would stretch your stomach. Have any of you heard that before, bc I don't see how it could

So I had surgery last tues, and went yesterday for my one week appointment. They took the drainage tube out & said everything looked good! I've also lost 19 lbs!!!! I'm still struggling to get all fluids & Proteins in, but I'm doing better than I was a few days ago with that. I feel very exhausted and tired all the time though. I've told myself all day that I was gonna work out, but it hasn't happened yet. I just don't seem to have the energy. It still hurts a little when I bend over but nothing major. I'm looking forward to cottage cheese next week!!!!!

Auntiex3 got a reaction from tfarr in Surgery tomorrow, very scared.
I was ok up until about three days before. They had told me my heart was enlarged and wanted a ct done. the ct came back fine, but I was still a nervous wreck. I actually had tears coming down my face while I was in the pre-op room. Then they gave me something for my nerves. Take a deep breath and try to relax. Good luck on your surgery tomorrow, keep us posted!

Auntiex3 got a reaction from BLERDgirl in 2 days post op
So I had surgery on Tuesday, and got released to come home today. Feeling a little sore, but mainly around the drainage tube. So right now, I'm trying to remember to walk every four hours and trying to get my fluids in. I'm excited, but still so nervous, lol.

I think you need to get a cardiologist to look at your echo cardiogram. You should be experiencing symptoms of an enlarged heart (cariomyopathy). It should feel like an elephant is sitting on your chest or constantly being out of breath for no reason. Is there anyway you can compare this recent echo to another one you have had in the past 5 years? This would be something that a cardiologist would naturally do to get an idea of the severity of your problem. Try to relax because anxiety and stress will only worsen symptoms of your condition. I know that's easier said than done. You may need to hold off on surgery to make sure that your heart can handle or not be initially worsened from surgery. There is more of a chance that you could have heart failure after or during surgery if your heart is
enlarged. It's probably best to seek out a cardiologist's opinion so that you don't go into surgery so worried and doubtful.

I'm thankful that the anesthesiologist is paying so much attention to the work that's coming through to him. Because honestly without him, I'm not sure if I would have known about the heart condition at all.

Sounds like you might need to postpone the surgery and get clearance from a cardiologist to make sure you are stable enough. This really isn't an anesthesiologist's area of expertise.

Good luck with your test. I hope they find that all is well. Judging by the experience of some friends and family members, an enlarged heart might not be a real impediment. Let us know.

Anesthesiologist are usually the ones that are more cautious. They want to make sure you will be alright being put to sleep. This test is to reassure that all is ok. Try not to worry until there is something to worry about. I know it's easier said then done. Praying all comes out well
