  1. ... They suck! Any way to avoid them? I'm one month out from RNY. I have done powdered benefiber - will that help? They aren't terribly painful, but don't want them to get worse.

What can I eat @ diner

Thanks friends I didn't call surgical team - this came up last minute, right before I posted here. I'm too nervous to eat a salad, haven't done that yet (though love salads and can't wait to start eating them again!) ... I wanted to do Protein but was thinking the fat wouldn't be good. Oatmeal sounds perfect though! I just looked at the menu and they have sandwiches too - I might opt for a turkey or chicken salad sandwich, and just eat around the roll... Yummy protein in that right? We'll see what I'm hungry for, when I get there. Thanks again!!

    Pre-Surgery worries

You can do it!! Just live off 5 protein shakes a day. You can absolutely do it and it will be so worth it!

    Gastric sleeve to bypass

I'm very disappointed in your doctors. My center stressed, at each and every informational meeting, that if you have even mild regular heartburn bypass is the best route to take. They should have you taking omeprazole (maybe not til your 3 week check up) - that may help. It's taken for six months to prevent ulcers. If it helps, stay on it. That's what I was on pre-RNY for my reflux. Hopefully you're on the mend soon

    Why did you choose GBP?

Pre-op, my only "fat problem" was GERD. Bypass is the only compatible surgery. Higher weight loss with the bypass too. Go big or go home right? I was diabetic when pregnant, and my mom has type two diabetes - that's in my future if i don't drop some serious poundage. GB for the win. Good luck with whatever decision you make

    Tomorrow is my surgery....

I wore hospital gowns the whole time, so only brought a few pairs of undies, a travel body wash and shampoo, toothbrush/paste, comb, Chapstick, phone & charger & extension cord, laptop, hand lotion and fuzzy socks and slippers for walks. I used it all except the laptop - the pain meds made me too loopy to care - I just let the little TV on I wish I brought some oil for inside my nostrils (like a dab of olive oil or Vitamin e or coconut oil) it was dreadfully dry in there. And maybe my neti pot to flush out my nose. BEWARE - nobody warned me, but the oxygen mask dries you out a LOT. (Tmi/gross) I had the nastiest phlegm, mucus and crusted boogers in my nose and throat. Don't be scared - ask your nurse if you cough/hawk anything gross up. I was beyond mortified what came up when I coughed. I wish I had known ahead of time! My one piece of advice - the day after surgery take a hot shower. Even if you don't bring any soaps or shampoos, use the hospital's or just take a shower to get wet - you will feel like a new person!! Good luck!

    Living the dream!

That all sounds amazing!!! Enjoy every second!!! I'm looking forward to this summer with my kids in the pool! I have plenty of fat bathing suits, but just am not comfortable in them AND I had such low energy that I dreaded going into the pool! (Gotta clean it before we can really play and it's just an all around pain when you don't have energy) I bought a size 18 black one piece at target on clearance at the end of this past summer, I have hopes it will fit!! Enjoy your trip - and post pictures when you get back!

    Is this normal?

Thanks!! I'm pretty sure it's not lac-intol, I've been tolerating my protein shakes made w/ skim milk just fine. Nothing specific giving me the diarrhea.
  14. Hey all! Im two weeks out from RNY today, and I've had diarrhea off and on since last night. Is this normal? Still eating mushy phase 2. Also is it normal for my pouch to be sensitive when I take even a sip of warm Water? I don't get a pain, but more like an uncomfortable sensation for a few seconds. Thanks in advance, I don't know where I'd be without this place!! ~RNY 1.19.15
  15. Anyone have a 1/19/15 surgery date and would like to buddy up?
  16. I was graduated to stage 3 diet today (RNY on 1/19) for dinner around 630 I had 1/2 cup mashed potatoes (didn't eat it all, maybe a little less than half) and 1/4 cup applesauce (ate most of it) I felt like I had a ball in my esophagus for an hour and a half after I ate. At 45 minutes post meal I had a few small sips of Water. Now I have a stomach ache. A legit bellyache like I would have had pre op if I ate too much... What can I do? I'm so uncomfortable. Gas-x strips aren't working. I have Tums but I think they have real sugar in them (dextrose and sucrose) - 2 tablets have 2g sugars. Will they make me feel worse? I'm in tears, been laying in bed with the heating pad for the last hour and a half. Thanks!!

Dammit. I called the surgeon office to talk to a nurse about the tums - got my surgeon he's doing on call - he said no because they aren't sugar free they will make things worse. However I just felt the need to vomit, went in and had a good 6 heaves but nothing came out. I feel a little better. It's now been 5 hours since I ate. :/ Please tell me this gets easier.
