jane13 got a reaction from KristenLe in Spouse unable to deal with changes
@@hbrhonda - I am 14 months post and I have never stopped eating out with hubby. he likes to eat out a lot. I am just more selective and get to eat a couple of meals out of one. We order a la carte items for me. I occasionally have a drink but that doesn't mean I cannot drink Water, unsweetened tea or coffee.
Maybe you need to get some newer things to do while enjoying getting healthier with hubby. When you go to the concert at the park walk around, sip some SF flavored water (you can be the designated driver) and eat some post VSG friendly type food that BOTH of you would like: sliced cheese, meats, etc.
Why watch him eat when you go out? I found out that my hubby felt guilty that I had so little to eat compared to his plate. Chew you food slowly, put the fork down, don't drink while eating, basically s-t-r-e-t-c-h out your meal to finish closer to the time he is done
Buffets offer a lot to choose from, you don't have to eat ALOT of anything so just get a bite of this or a bite of that.
Food = fuel for the body, think of it that way and re-evaluate this situations and see if you can change not only his view, but yours as well, as what "a good time" can be.
Sharing food is part of socializing, and post WLS as a patient, you adjust and move on...don't expect everyone to want to do a 180 degree change (baby steps).
    You got this!

I would certainly like to hear from the veteran veterans about ways to overcome the struggles that come up at those 3 , 4, 5 year marks. i keep getting hints that things are gonna change, so am feeling a little apprehensive as I approach the 3 year mark. I think details about the new challenges and advice from those that have been there done that would be extremely helpful in preparing for the future. I welcome your advice.

Eh, I have been an MP, a soldier (started as a private, made it to SGT, and then was commissioned , ended my time as a Captain). I invaded Panama, I have had people shoot at me and I have shot back. So please keep that in mind when I say this.
Statistically, even with all this crap going on at the moment, you are more likely to be killed on the job if you are a taxi driver or 7-11 clerk than a cop. Sorry, but that is the facts. Being a police officer is statistically a very safe job. Yes there is a great deal of media coverage on this at the moment, but numbers are what they are.
I like most of the cops I know. But about 10% of them are sociopaths. There damn unions won't get rid of them, and that minority is giving the rest a very bad reputation. Until they or the civilian authorities start cleaning house and stop the militarization of the police force it is just going to get worse.
I am not black lives/blue lives...I am ALL lives matter.
Now I will get off that soap box.
That said, I really don't get all wrapped around the axells with a handful of idiots on this or any other site. Life if too short.

@@LipstickLady - I need to pass along a book recommendation that two good friends passed along to me. The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k. Yes, that's the title of the book. The basic idea is that you have a f- budget, and only things worthy of giving a f- about should be taken from your f- budget. The book goes into detail about how to implement this concept into real life. It's basically a treatise on "not my circus, not my monkeys" which is another excellent mantra to live by.
This is not to belittle what you're saying, because you're 100% right. Petty online disagreements seem really lame right now with everything going on in the world. People dying is worth giving a f- about. People getting their undies in a bunch in an online forum is probably not (though it's your f- budget, not mine, so you get to decide what to give a f- about).
    Hugs!!

I am pissed ,too. Seriously, what happened? What happened to people? The people in the middle east? Here in US? The corruption in the government? TMI on social media? So on and so on.......like someone said Love will conquer hate. It has to start now. Those of you who have young children, turn off the tv and they will play on their own, books and fun activities. These innocent kids do not need to know what is happening out there! Lots of prayers !! Have a good day ????

It seems as if respect is at an all time low and entitlement is at an all time high. Throw in a handful of religious fanatics, political terrorists and we have a recipe for disaster. Scary times.

I agree. I do think we are in a really bad part of a somewhat regular cycle in history and we will come out of it in time. But how much time? How many more lives? Is social media fueling the hate? How do we turn it around?
    It's scary. Really scary.
Kiss your husband for me and thank him for his time on the force. XXOO

I don't know about profound or wise, but thank you.
I am seriously angry at myself for allowing certain people on an internet forum to take up even a moment of space in my head in a negative manner. I'm going to work on that.
With two children, one of whom is about to go off to college and leave the relative safety of my nest, I need to push out the bad and embrace the good. I NEED TO.

So this is the new vets forum, right?
Same as the old vets forum, but now a forum for WLS patients who are at least (12 months? 18 months? different time?) post-op?
And everyone can read / see the posts here, right?
