  1. What stage ae you are? I was on full liquids the first 2 weeks and I had small amounts of non fibrous fruits and veg. I simply liquefied them in my nutra bullet. This is also why those vitamins and supplements ate important. What items are you allowed? Are you meeting all your protein and fluids goals yet? These things may also be playing a part in the light headedness you are feeling. As a vegetarian I understand missing the crunch of fresh fruit and veg however at 3 weeks out your should be able to get the nutrients from these foods in liquid form.
  2. You might do better doing a search for Premiere Protein. There have been several threads and discussions about this. You should also check with your nutritionist.
  3. You aren't always going to get sick. Especially if it's just a tiny amount. I have yet to eat a food that made me ill. This is the mental part of the process. You have to develop skills and habits to do instead of eating what your shouldn't. If it's a temptation you can't handle, put it away. Better yet don't bring it in your house. If it's on tv, don't watch it. Then decide on what you can do instead of giving into cravings. Even if it's something as simple as wearing a rubber band and snapping it every time you go to eat something you shouldn't have. As you progress further and move back to regular food, you will be fuller and feel more restriction. Early on in the all or mostly liquid phase, yeah you can get some food in your shouldn't. If it really becomes a problem it may be time for therapy so you can get you head to match what your tummy wants.
  4. You're on purees you are not even coming close to over eating. You probably just need to eat 5 or 6 small meals instead of 3 bigger ones. Log your food and I bet you'r under 600 calories. That's fine. EAT! Until I transitioned to regular food I needed to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks. Now that I'm eating more substantial food I can go on 3 meals a day, but occasionally on a really active day I may still need an afternoon snack.
  5. There are tons of other sources for Protein. 0% Greek yogurt is my personal fav. If you are not used to it, mixing it with some fruit or a bit of honey might help. Here's a helpful chart of other sources of protein.
  6. Definitely call you doctor. You may need to have your levels checked a little early. Secondly are you taking your Vitamins with food? My nutritionist does feel that gummies aren't complete but there should be alternative forms you can take whether it be liquid or chewable.
  7. What were the instructions given to you at discharge? Where are you getting your follow up? You need to speak with the nutritionist. You may do better with protein waters or powders that mix with water instead of milk, however given your history the only advice you should take should be from a medical professional.
  8. Juicing is not advised as a primary source of nutrients because the pulp is separated from the juice, hence you miss most of the fiber and nutrients your body needs. A blender along the lines of a nutra bullet or ninja is a lot better. However even vegans or should I say especially vegans need whole foods for safe nutrition. However whole grains like quinoa and farro are also complete proteins.
  9. I think I waited until after my 2 week f/u and then only small doses sporadically. Thankfully it hasn't bothered me.
  10. Well it sounds like you have it under control. I have a myraid of allergies so I completely understand.
  11. Hello and welcome. Where did you have your surgery? Give us a little more info and we may be able to assist you.
  12. No. Sometimes the belly just gets picky. A few weeks further down the road and the tummy may not mind refried beans.
  13. Yes. Or you can put the whole thing in a nutra bullet and blend it all to a liquid. Then you also get a bit of protein from the egg.
  14. You're still eating and drinking too fast. Those are all symptoms of eating faster than your new tummy is ready to handle. When they tell us to eat slow, they mean sloooooooow. It also sounds like you may have some acid or gas going on. You can ask your doctor for a script for omeprazole or pick up some over the counter. Some posters report liking the gas X strips as well. You can also try downloading that Eat Slower app many have found helpful. My personal rule of thumb was take a bit or take a tiny sip. Wait 2 minutes. Take another. Wait 2 minutes, and so on. Yes it takes forever to eat this way, but you won't get those awful hiccups, or gurgling, or that stuck feeling. You should be coming up on a 2 week f/u. Make sure to mention your concerns to the nutritionist.
  15. No one time won't help but it would be better to plan a nutritious meal you can make that will give you that Mexican flavor without sabotaging yourself. Try layering re-fried Beans with a bit of shredded cheese. To that add a tsp of 0% greek yogurt, it will taste similar to sour cream with less calories/fat and more Protein. Add a ½tbsp of salsa if you are at the soft food stage, leave out if you are not. Add some shredded or even pureed chicken. Top with a bit of diced avocado or smash the avocado into guac if you are still on purees. Viola! Mexican flavors, full of protein. People can and do regain after WLS surgery. The physical work has been done, you now have to do the mental work. It's not about depriving yourself it's about finding healthier alternatives. Do not tell yourself "No", ask yourself "what can I do instead?"
  16. Some people have had long pre-op diets. It's because insurance companies sometimes want anywhere from 3 to 12 months of documents dieting and weight loss. Check with your insurance company to see if this is the case.
  17. Get you some lock and locks and bring your food with you. Between that and the on the go food others have suggested you should be fine. I didn't buy baby food. I know that easier for some, but I'm a grown up. No way was I eating baby food. Buy a lunch pack and a water bottle or 2 and keep it moving.
  18. What type of allergies? Sinusitis? It may be all the dairy from the protein shakes you could try some of the protein waters and drink instead.
  19. I know many doctor's offices have deals with doctor's offices where they have their patent's buy a particular brand of protein shakes. I don't know if ethically they can make buying their shakes part of the surgical requirement. I would definitely ask. Just tell the the optifast makes you sick and you've found a comparable brand of protein shake that you prefer.
  20. You thumb is in the way. What's the sweetener used? Is it sucrolose or stevia? I was told as long as the protein source is either whey isoloates or soy isolates it would work. BTW - CVS brand has similar ingredients for $20.99 and is 26gms of protein. Either way it's not a bad buy.
  21. That was rude and inconsiderate. Even if they felt that way, why would you say that out loud to someone getting ready to have surgery? Did they think that would help with any pre-surgery jitters? Sheesh! Some people really do not think. I am sorry you experienced that. Please know the mortality rate is relatively low. Try comparing that to the mortality rate from complications due to the various co-morbidities that come with being morbidly obese. You will be fine. It's a quick and easy surgery that will change your life for the better.
  22. Chobani is on my do not buy list because they use GMO's.
  23. And surprisingly enough that's the easiest way to not lose weight. Too few calories and your body will panic and hold onto every calorie.
  24. I have a ton of allergies and sensitivities. I eat plain greek yogurt because I don't like the fake sugar and artificial dyes in the fruit kind, and I am picky about the type of greek yogurt I buy. I only buy FAGE 0%. I have mixed Protein powder, my own fresh fruit, nuts, oatmeal and even nut butter with the yogurt. It's a great source of protein. However, if you do not like yogurt, don't eat it. I happen to like greek yogurt. I ate it before WLS and continue to do so post-op. Just find other ways to meet your protein requirements. This is a big enough adjustment without punishing ourselves by eating foods we don't like. In fact here's a handy chart full of alternative protein sources.
  25. Stay away from the scale. It will make you crazy! Focus on meeting your Protein and Fluid requirements. Take your measurements. If you must weigh, no more than once a week and do it in the same location and at the same time of day.
