  1. You don't have to do Premiere Protein. You could do a plant based RTD protein shake like Orgain organics and mix in a scoop of any pnat based protein powder and still get over 30gms of protein for breakfast. Once you get over that hurdle getting the rest of your protein in is easy. I think some of the Isopure drinks are pretty high in protein and can be mixed with water or juice.
  2. Are you walking at least 30 minutes a day? Have you had a BM yet? Are you getting water or any other fluids besides your protein drinks in? You've got help your body shed those pounds.
  3. I didn't have a pre-op diet. Some docs require it, some don't.
  4. I had the sleeve but let me tell you it was the best thing in the world. I have chronic uterica. They are painful, itchy hives. I was at the point of having an outbreak at least once a week, sometimes more. The only treatments were benedryl. If I was lucky I could take them at home. However it would take me at least 2 days to sleep off the effects of the benedryl. That meant if it was a mild attack, I'd lose 3 days out of the week. I would be took sleepy and drowsy to function well. If it was a bad attack, I had to go to the ER for IV benedryl. That burns as it course through your veins. They also had to observe me for 6 hours before I was allowed to go home. Once home I still needed 2 days to sleep it off. In addition for whatever reason my throat and tongue would also swell on occasion. That was always an immediate trip to the ER for IV benedryl. Post-op I have had not one single episode. I was told there was a possibility that my uterica would go into remission. The doctor's aren't sure why though. I am extremely thankful that it has. As for the surgery itself? Could not have been easier. No pain, no problems with gas, no nausea. I was started on colace in the hospital and had my first BM 2 days after I came home. I am losing weight and feeling better than I have in a very long time. It's worth it. If you've come this far, please have the surgery.
  5. From what I gather the only time someone with a sleeve experiences dumping is when they eat to fast. I am 4 mths out and have never had it. When they say eat slow, they mean slooooow.
  6. I think you PCP was unprofessional for saying that, but I do agree with @Jordan861 's recommendation. However, I would likely switch doctor's post-op. I need a doctor who can either fake faith in me or at least show a bit more tact when expressing dissent. If that was the PCP's concern then he should have voiced that. To just be negative was unprofessional.
  7. I have Nature's Bounty 5000mcg in Natural Berry flavor. It taste really good and I only have to take it once a week.
  8. I'm gonna try @@Kindle's chai idea. In the winter months I like a cup of tea in the evenings. That's a great way to get in a little extra Protein. I have a rubbermaid shaker bottle. It's very handy for grab and go and really does mix the powders well. I also use a nutra bullet when I add things to my powders like nut butters, spinach or fruit. It's helpful to have more than one Water bottle/shaker bottle. I like keeping RTD Protein drinks in the fridge. Toss one in your bag of you're going to the mall or someplace. It may be a lifesaver if you get somewhere that there is nothing safe to eat. Especially in those early days pre-op. I still take close to an hour to drink my morning Protein shake. Sometime I just top it off when more ice if it gets to room temp.
  9. Can't you call there and ask. Or call the Marriott 1-800 number?
  10. The only way you'll advance to regular food is by trying them. it's okay to have fears just do not let them rule you. Try one new food as allowed and see how things go. Continue on adding foods. Take your vitamins/supplements and get your fluids. When it's time to move to regular food do so.
  11. I bought a large pair of panties, a toothbrush, my iPad, iPhone & charger. They gave me antibactierial soap at pre-admission and told me to wash with it. I didn't have a hernia repair. I woke up feeling fine. I never need any pain meds once I woke up, walked in recovery. I had no real pain, just some soreness. No nausea either. They gave me ice chips to suck on and the next day they brought me Prosource no carb liquid Protein, vegetable broth, Jello (I didn't eat that) and decaf tea. I was also given a pitcher of Water and a small bucket of ice.
  12. My questions were different. I wanted to know if they had issues with vegetarian diets? Could they work around my many food and medicine allergies? Could they operate without blood? Everything else I had checked into before deciding on this doc and/or were answered during the seminar.
  13. I have't used it specifically for my scars but I use it for my hair and body and I cook with it s well. Get the cold press virgin. It's good for all sorts of things. I even briefly used it for oil pulling until I realized I preferred old school Listerine.
  14. I used to use Biochem vegan Protein powder and liked it a lot. I think they changed the formula because the last container I had before surgery the powder tasted a little gritty. This may not be the case with the whey protein. Grit is something I find more common in plant based protein powders.
  15. Yup UPenn meets the 3rd Saturday of every month at Presby at 10am. Parking in the lot is free on Saturday. The also have meetings at UPenn the 2nd Saturday in the Lobby of Penn Tower also at 10am nd at Pennsylvania in the Zubrow auditorium on the 1rst floor the last Tuesday of every month from 7-9pm. Ironically Temple was the other bariatric program I looked at before deciding to go with UPenn.
  16. That's like the day after new year's. I Water aerobics class was canceled so I decided I wasn't going to the gym but would take a 30 min walk instead. To talk myself into walking I promised I would treat myself. I walked to the nearby bodega, bought 1 mini resse's cup. The guy looked at my like I was crazy just buying 1. LOL I ate that the walked back home.
  17. 1. Yes it is likely that you will be on Vitamins and supplements for life. The exact amount can vary but needs to be monitored with blood test. Initially every three months, eventually it may be yearly. No eventually your body adjust. That varies from program to program.I had no pre-op diet and was only on full liquids for 2 weeks post op. Nope, the goal is to get all of your Protein through food. Many of us choose to use the occasional Protein shake to supplement. Yup, I add tons of ice. It's best to avoid them early out, but the goal is to be able to eat sensible amounts of everything. The best thing to do is locate an informational seminar in your area. They will review the various types of WLS and the pros & cons of each. They can also answer any questions you have as to the specific requirements for their program.
  18. Because of the irritation they can cause to the GI tract there is a concern that they can cause ulcers. However considering you have both gout and kidney stones you should consult with your doctor. He may approve you taking them under supervision.
  19. It's not that you should have no sugar, but it's best if your sugar comes from real food like fruit & veg. Even then you want to keep it low.
  20. @@JerseyJules - See!? I've been telling you not every one has horrible experiences. There are plenty of us pain free folks around. You're gonna rock this!!
  21. @@purrfctangel - Thank you. I credit my grandmother. She always had great skin. I also work at it. I never sleep with makeup on. l always wash and moisturize before bed. I use my mia each morning and drink plenty of Water.
  22. I had my approval about 3 quarters of the way through all the pre-op testing so I got my surgery date about a month before. I was given a date in August and didn't have surgery until September. I still had to complete the sleep study, Ultrasound for my legs/IVCF filter and nutrition class.
  23. That's about right. Other than my copays everything was covered except for $200 for the nutrition class and $400 copay day of surgery.
  24. Do you have to take calcium citrate?
