    Texas sleeve buddies

Hello! Dallas, TX sleevie here! I had my surgery on 4/28/15 and am currently down 61 lbs. Surgery went fine, all the pain was worth it. Lol I wish you luck with your journey and I will be looking forward to your updates! =))

Insurance Approval (!) and EGD procedure

Thank you Mommoftwogirls! The procedure went fine. I woke up easily. The only thing that happened was they must have bumped my bottom lip because I woke up with my lower lip numb and I had a tooth bite imprint inside my lower lip. Later on that night it was purple and bruised on the outside. It was sore for about a week. Invictus - I had to do 3 months of nutrition appointments and that was all. She asked what I was eating and suggested other things to eat and what exercises to do. I was relieved it wasn't too difficult to go through for the insurance company. I love Aetna! Good Luck to you =))
  3. How exciting! I just said a prayer for you! I can just imagine how you are feeling, everything will turn out fine. =)) I was recently approved and haven't scheduled my surgery yet. Hopefully mine will be very soon. Good luck on your recovery!
  4. Hello! I am excited to say that my insurance has approved my surgery! I have Aetna. It was sent in on Feb 20 and was approved on Feb 26. I was surprised it was so quick! I have yet to schedule my surgery date. I'm going to try to make it for the end of April. I still don't know how much $$ I'm going to need exactly. The woman at the doctor's office gave me some figures that the doctor/hospital requires but that didn't include my insurance out of pocket. I'm lost when it comes to insurance talk. Lol I am planning on calling tomorrow to talk about it and schedule my surgery. My next step is the EGD procedure which is scheduled for next Tuesday, Mar 17. My doctor requires this before surgery. I'm kind of nervous. Ive never been sedated before. A friend of mine that went to the same doctor did the procedure and she acted like it wasn't a big deal at all. She said her throat wasn't even sore, which I thought may be the case. Any advice or things I should expect about the EGD would be greatly appreciated! Thanks =))
  5. Hello! So, I have had 2 sleep studies, one with mask, one without. Turns out I have moderate apnea. They said the average "events",(meaning losing/holding breath) for mild is 5-15 times, moderate is 16-25, and severe is 26+ and I averaged 16.9. So, I guess they are suggesting a mask at home. I asked the woman at the sleep study if I will need to buy one in order to get approved for the surgery and she said it depends on the doctor. I will need to ask Dr. Jay. She said since I am on the cusp of mild/moderate I may not HAVE to get one. On another note, my last nutrition appt was on Feb 17 and they sent my papers off to the insurance company the same day. And now the wait begins... All these thoughts are going through my mind like, what if they dont approve me? What if they dont think I NEED the surgery? What if all of my hopes and plans for this surgery just go down the drain? Im going try not to think about it. Just hope for the best and say whatever will be, will be. =))
  6. Hello! My consultation went well, the doctor drew me a picture of my stomach and showed me how much he would cut off, he said right now my stomach can hold two plates of Thanksgiving dinner and after the surgery it will be the size of a large banana. Yikes! Lol. It went a little quick I thought, I didn't have a chance to ask any questions, he basically covered everything and then he escorted me to the insurance woman's office. With my insurance, Aetna, I have to do 3 months of nutrition appointments. I wasn't told what all that would entail, the woman just made me 3 appts and I was on my way. I called back a couple of weeks later and the woman at the front desk told me I didn't even have to come in for the appts, that I could just call in and talk to her on the phone. Is this normal? I thought they would have to weigh me, etc. She said "Just don't gain weight". Hmm. I'm wondering if you all had a similar situation with your doctors office?
  7. And the journey begins...

  9. Hello! I'm excited to start my journey on this forum, I have been reading through posts and you all seem so helpful and encouraging! I am starting step #1 tomorrow by calling to make my initial consultation meeting with the bariatric center. I hope I don't have to wait long for the appointment, I want to get this ball rolling! I have steadily been gaining weight ever since I was young, it seemed like my dress size grew with me, I was a size 18 when I was 18 yrs old, size 20 at 20 yrs, etc. I am 32 now and am up to a 26/28. I prayed and prayed for a job with insurance and my prayers were answered this year! My insurance had kicked in and I'm not wasting any more time! I have high blood pressure, sciatica, and a fatty liver. I can't walk around a store without having to sit down every so often. I am miserable. I'm hoping and praying for a new lease on life and a great success story I can share!
