How has your life changed?
wantingabetterlife replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I always thought of myself as the life of the party and a very happy fat person. Now I look back and realize that was the lie I was telling myself because I didn't know any other life. Now that my health is better and I have lost weight, I AM happy. I can go outside with my kids and have fun. I can go on long walks with them. I'm not ashamed for them when I go to school events. I feel prouder on my hubby's arm (who has never said I wasn't perfect even heavy). My clothing style has changed from exclusively black and browns to clothes with all different vibrant colors. Many life changes and many milestones. I wouldn't change this decision for anything in the world! It wasn't always easy like everyone outside of here thinks of WLS. There are many emotional challenges to deal with and therapy helps tremendously. Those of us who have had WLS have walked many miles in your shoes and know your pains. I wish you the best in whatever you choose! -
Vacation coming! :)

You should be proud and excited! Have lots of fun and enjoy not having to worry about those old problems of "will I fit"! I'm sure everyone will be shocked to see your change. Just be prepared for those nagging questions and statements! Even people that love us and mean well slip up and say something we may find inappropriate or insulting. -
Tips for eating after WLS
wantingabetterlife replied to Dream4tc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Always weigh or portion your food and keep track of your intakes. It helps so much! Also, keeping a good snack with you when you are out and about. -
Great job! Keep up the good work!

For those of us that live in Florida....we wear the same thing all year! I miss the cold weather clothes. Can I live vicariously through you guys????

Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....
wantingabetterlife replied to Awjones28's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My personal favorite.....You really didn't look like you needed to lose that much weight. REALLY??? Were you blind? -
A lot of the decision process deals with how much weight you have to lose, your surgeon's recommendation, your health, etc. You really need to research each surgery and look at the pros and cons of each.

Such an inspiration to those who are in the same boat. You look great! Congratulations on all of your accomplishments!

Very sensitive to sun and heat

Everything will seem kind of out of whack when you are dehydrated or bordering on it. Try your best to make sure you get in all of your water and protein. Once I was able to get mine up, I felt much better and had more energy. -
Wishing you the best! We're all here if you need us

Getting Nervous!
wantingabetterlife replied to sbagby1960's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TMI, I've had the hemorrhoid surgery too and believe me....if you made it through that, you can easily handle this! It was far worse than VSG. -
Mine slowed down some and now it is picking up again. It is the pits!

@@Elode Own those leggings girl! I don't care what people think, I'll wear what I want! And yoga pants are my new favorite go to.

I hurt the restaurants feeling...
wantingabetterlife replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can totally relate. I feel like I am offending them when I don't eat much. I tell them I can't eat much because of surgery but it was delicious. I don't think they believe me most of the time! -
I'm not a teacher but one thing I have noticed is that most people don't even pay attention to how little I eat. They see that I eat "weird" things or eat really slow. Most of the time, people are talking or looking at their phones and don't pay much attention to others around them. I think we all focus on it because it's what we always think about!
-
I am so sorry to hear this happening to you. Take a step back and take some time for yourself. Refocus on you and your weight loss. It's what is important right now. I had to learn through this process that this time is for me. To focus my priority on my health and losing weight. You owe it to yourself. Get reorganized and back on track. It is definitely going to be his loss! I wish you the best!

Comments from others that mess with your head
wantingabetterlife replied to stacyg1's topic in Rants & Raves
Women are haters! You just look fabulous and she is jealous. Did she ever comment how "skinny" you looked without seven pounds????? I will guess......NO! Don't let her get you down. There are many people in this world that can't stand themselves and they need to say mean things to others to feel better. I think she fits into this class of people! -

Any Type 2 Diabetics out there?
wantingabetterlife replied to mildredskeepers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was taking Metformin preop. I had one insulin shot while in the hospital right after surgery and nothing else after. My sugar level was fine for the next 2 days and I was told not to take the Metformin any longer. I have had my A1C checked twice since surgery and my levels were perfect. -
@@OKCPirate You are so inspiring! Thanks for all the tips, I am looking forward to it!

Yep, that's my problem. I don't push myself far enough and hard enough! I will definitely try it and hope it helps. Thanks for the help!

Thanks... But the odd thing is, I never made it to 5k LOL. My best distance was 2.47 miles, 5k is 3 miles. Guess I'll work towards getting that last 1/2 mile in. Be proud of however far you can go! I am still trying to get my breathing right. I can only make it short little periods so far. My husband is military and he stinks as a "new" runner's buddy! Did you use the app to help you know when to run/walk? I think I would do better using it than trying to pace myself.
