    Gas pain, please help!

I had the same problem! I wanted to die!! I just kept up the walking! I tried gas x strips but that seemed to mobilize the gas and make it angry or something!!! I made my own heating pad (pinterest: rice in a sock and heat for 2 min) and I would put that on the gassy areas (chest, shoulders, tummy) and that helped a little bit. The gas will go away! The nurse at the hospital said it can take up to 3 days to pass gas for the first time after I was in tears at the hospital telling everyone they used too much gas on me. Everyone's experience is different. The major pain was gone on day 6 with minor pain here and there that I would just try to walk off. Try extending your walk distance and frequency!
  2. The problem is you should have started with the liquid first!!! The liquid is sooo much worse than The chews ... That when you finally try those you'll be praising the Vitamin Lords!! They do have some chocolate ones but my doc only recommended those for lap band -- I'm thinking of switching to the chews... I know this didn't help much but at least you know there is something worse than the chews haha

    My body feels awful...

Not sure if this helps -- All of my Water was flavored (mio, crystal lite, herbal tea) that helped me get it down Also Popsicles were a life savor For protein-- I'm still working on it but I tried putting it in a shot glass and would drink that in 15 min then refill the shot glass (for some reason it helped) Now that I'm on purée life is a lot better -- def ask if you can jump to that early!

    Day 4 postop

I didn't poop until day 6 -- but it was clear that I was on a liquid diet... It wasn't until day 10 that I pooped anything to write home about on day 6 I did get started on my smooth move tea and benefiber so I'm sure that helped! I'm on wk 3 and not as regular as I used to be-- I think I also need to be getting in some more liquids which the NUT said would help
  5. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired and at almost 2 weeks post op I still don't really get hungry. Just met with the NUT yesterday and she said to try to "eat" every 3-4 hours. As for when to start protein shakes -- I was clear liquids the day after surgery and protein shakes the next day but every doctor has a different plan. I think the progression is mostly to check what you can tolerate without dumping or sickness.
  6. Hey team I'm on purée stage, day 8 and going to a bday dinner... Anyone have anything I might be able to eat besides just miso soup?
  7. I just started using the shit glass method today (day 7) and it seems to be helping a ton so far! Also-- I do a lot of mio, crystal light, Jello, Popsicles and adding ice to my Protein shakes to try to get as many oz as I can I also had a hiatal hernia repair which they said also makes it harder to get things down while you heal

    Had surgery today

The gas is the worst! It is different for everyone like everything in this process. TMI but I didn't pass gas for about 36 hours despite all my walking (I was pretty convinced they used extra gas on me it hurt so bad!) the nurse told me it can take up to 3 days to pas gas and I was in so much pain at that time that I cried because the pain meds didn't do much for the gas! I have never been more elated about a burp/fart, but to be quite honest I still had gas pain in my chest, shoulders and back here and there until day 5. I'm on day 7 now so there is no saying I won't get more, but I'm feeling pretty good today. The only thing I know to do is walk as much as you can tolerate, the nurse also gave me an antacid on day 2 which she said would help and then day 4 I bought gas x strips-- but for me it seemed to make it worse... Like it mobilized the gas or something so I haven't tried it since then.
  9. Paper from my doc on this topic: Benefiber Miralax Drink plenty of Fluid Get in exercise Hot non-caffeinated beverage (before exercise) Smooth move tea Prune juice GNC clear mixing super fiber

6 days post op... no fun

Today is my 6th day -- I don't really count the hospital because those were different (I feel like I was in a sleepy drug fog) but I got home Sunday and have been having the WORST experience ever- tons of gas pains, chest, shoulder and back very hard time breathing-- new pain in a new area every couple hours and just all around hating life! I literally called my doctor/hospital twice a day to describe my symptoms because it was so bad, I knew it couldn't be normal. He explained that everything was just my body healing. Everyone is different. He let me know that it was notable and if the pain continued or got worse I should come in. But today woke up feeling great, I was able to lay flat and sleep for the first time since the surgery, walked further, drank more liquid and even made 2 meals for my poor hubby (who has pretty much had to fend for himself all week) My mom had a similar surgery when I was in high school and I feel like she was in the hospital, came home and was just perfect! I am totally jealous of her recovery but mine is a different journey! I'm sure at some point I will feel pain again - but with this 1 day of hope I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel as I allow my body to heal! Can't wait for more results! You can do this!!!
  11. I am almost 1 week post op just wondering how much everyone walks or what my goals should be? I know it's different for each person, but just trying to get a general sense! Thanks
  12. Ya its normal... I convinced one of the nurses to let me weigh myself the second day in the hospital... She laughed at me and assured me that it was Water weight but I was not going to be happy! Had surgery on Friday and by Sunday afternoon I had gained 15lbs!!! Apparently each IV bag give you about 2.5 lbs (side note: my husband and I couldn't figure out if I had really fat feet or if they were just swollen) I have weighed myself everyday since I got home and I'm on day 6 now and just below my surgery day weight so now I plan to only see the scale once a week! Good Luck!
