    Is there anyone from UK

Hi,i am from Leicester in the uk and had my sleeve on nov 17th. I was absolutely amazed at how well it went and speaking only for myself it was almost pain free and i have had hardly any issuse.I was back at work in only 10 days. I just could not stomach the protein drinks finding them too sweet and gloopy but the dietician said it would be fine to make my own using greek yoghurt milk and blended fruit which suited me just fine.Would love to keep in touch.Pippinleicester.

Week 2 Post OP Band To Sleeve

Hi i also went from band to sleeve and i am so relieved.Though i know the band works for many but i had trouble from the start i either had no restriction or extreme vomiting and in the end i could not get it removed. The sleeve seems to be pretty trouble free so far and not having to go for fills suits me much better good luck.pippinleicester.

    Should I get the sleeve

Hi Casey,i was sleeved last week and already the feeling of being under the lash to my weight is receding.i have not weighed myself and don`t intend to for 1 month but what i can tell you that for the first time in many years i am not hungry all the time.My operation went so well i just can`t believe how little pain i had.I am sure you will make the right decision foe yourself but what helped me to make my decision was to examine the facts and weigh up the benefits against the risks.Going by the figures online i decided the risk was tiny compared to risk every time i get into my car to drive.Good luck to you fella.pippinleicester

Check in: Week of Nov 17th Sleevers!

Hi pippinleicester here the 65year old computer dummy.I have questions, not about my surgery that went fine but i have to confess, after all you feel like friends now.I am completely useless on the computer, also not sure of the correct etiquette for sites like these.I love that all you people have the same surgery week as me and feel that it would be nice for us all to keep in touch as a group.Do we just keep posting on this thread (if that is the correct expression)or will there be a new one every week ? Also sometimes when would like to comment on a particular part of a post but i only know how to get on at the end instead of the particular pot i want to comment on.I know it can be done but because people have done it to my posts.I would love it if somebody could help but do it simply as i don`t understand the terms used in computer speak.I bought a book computers for dummies and i couldn`t understand a bloody word.pippinleicester x

    Too excited too soon?

No it is never too soon to be excited. This will be one of the most amazing events of your young life.I wish this could have happened to me years ago.You are going to know what it feels like not to be under the yolk of excess weight.Enjoy it pretty little miss and buy yourself a devine little dress to hang on the back of your closet door and look at it every day because soon you will be able to wear it.pippinleicester.

    Help! Can't stand Protein Drinks

Hi folks, i have only had 1 protein drink and that was when i was in hospital, the taste lingers in my mouth even now.Just thinking about protein powder makes me gag.Rang my dietician and she said i could make my own.I use plain greek yoghurt, skimmed milk, skimmed milk powder.I bought some sugar free soda-stream syrups, cocoa powder dissolved in boiling water, strong coffee(my UK doctor allows this)and some nice tart frozen fruit whizzed up in my magic bullet plus a little sweetnener in any combination i feel like.Great i feel like i am in a cocktail bar.Have discovered the recipe thread today and oh boy you folks have it all covered.pippinleicester.

    Not telling family

This is a really difficult one for me,i am a widow with just one surviving son.My precious younger son commited suicide by hanging himself 4 years ago and my older treasured son was the person who found him.I remember us clinging together on that dreadful day and i promised him and he promised me that we would never do anything that would take us away from each other.Shortly after my gastric band slipped and i had to have emergency surgery and was in intensive care.I will never forget my son`s distraught face when he came to see me.We have gone through so much together and though we miss my other son and always will we have found some joy in life through my grandsons and my son is getting married after Christmas to a girl that i can only describe as the daughter i never had. My weight has got out of control and my mobility was suffering and i knew i had to do something,i want to be around to share my life with my son and his wife and grandchildren. So though i would never lie to my lovely son i just haven`t told him yet.He would never judge me but i couldn`t tell him till i came out the other side.I am 5days out of surgery and i am going to stay at his house on 6th Dec.I shall tell him then.Lpve to you all and best wishes.pippinleicester x

Check in: Week of Nov 17th Sleevers!

Well day four out and i can`t believe i am saying this, have done a little light gardening this morning.Had soup for lunch after checking with the dietician that it was ok finding protein drinks too sweet and sludgy. She says i can blend plain yoghurt, skimmed milk, fresh fruit and a spoonful of powdered milk to make my own so happy days!!! pippinleicester

    Caffeine

Hi i am from the UK and had my surgery this week.It seems that in the UK the advice on coffee is very different to the USA.I am allowed unlimited coffee and tea,in fact my diet sheet from dietician has a recipe for making a coffee fortified with skimmed milk powder if i find the protein drinks difficult which i do.Would not dream of advising you to go against your doctors advice, but just find the different approach fascinating.pippinleicester

Just got up my second day at home (surgery was 17th) feeling even better today managed a large mug of tea for breakfast. Hospital said don`t worry too much about protein the first week just make sure i get 1-5 to 2litres of fluid a day and that includes tea and coffee so feel a lot more relaxed.Hope to hear about a few more who have come out of the other side.pippinleicester x

    How long was your recovery

Hi i had my surgery on mon 17th nov (3 days ago) and i am amazed at how well i feel.Just a little sickness feeling but the meds soon sort that.I am 65 years old and was expecting a lot more trouble but i can honestly say i do not even have any pain just a little discomfort.I have booked 10 days off work and if i carry on as i am i feel i will be fine going back to work.I think i have just been lucky, the nurses and surgeon were all expressing how well i bounced back.I can only wish the same for you.pippinleicester.

    My biggest fear!

,hi melva, hairloss is something i dread also. I have heard many theories as to why it happens surgery shock,,anaesthetics etc but i am convinced it must be all about what you eat.I have had about 8 surgical procedures in my life and never lost hair. I am going to concentrate on getting as much protein as i can and fingers crossed i wont be bald by the New Year.Pippinleicester.
