  1. Hi Shannon, WTG on the weight loss, that's amazing!!! My surgery was 8/28, was supposed to be 7/31 but I got bitten on my abdomen by what we think was a spider. The bites turned in cellulitis so my surgeon postponed my surgery. So, I basically started my journey 7/17, that's when I started the pre surgery liquid diet. I started at a weight of 252 and am down to 210. So, as you can see, you're doing great!!!! I'm sorry about your sadness, thankfully I'm not affected by the commercials or what my family eats. My stomach is always upset so eating isn't fun for me right now. I can barely get my meds and a Protein shake down without wanting to throw up. The Calcium I'm taking is ok but my Vitamin is disgusting. My surgeon said everything has to be crushed so applesauce has become my best friend. How are you doing with your Vitamins and supplements? Stay strong and keep the faith. My surgeon told me it's very common after surgery to wonder what in the heck you have just done. I hope things get better for you. Keep up the good work ????

    Newbie looking for a buddy

Another Newbie here...I mainly lurk but just today was asked to find a support group so here I am ???? I had GB with RNY on 8/28/15 at UCSF. Man has this been a wild ride! I spent 2 days in the hospital, had 7 incision sites but no drains. The pain was UNREAL!!!! In addition to being overweight, I also have Fibromyalgia and a Chronic Persistent Headache. I've had this dang headache for over 3 years now and we can't find it's cause. Prior to surgery, I was on Oxycodone and Nucynta for my Fibro and Headache pain. Post surgery, I had to switch to a Fentynal patch and the liquid Vicodin (Hyceth sp?). Neither really touch my Fibro or Headache pain but did help somewhat with the surgical pain. I'm also supposed to be taking a Fibro drug called Gabapentin but when crushed, is so bitter that I gag trying to get it down so I've just stopped taking it. Same goes for my antidepressant Lexapro... Bitter, Bitter, Bitter! Because of my on going health issues, the weight isn't falling off as fast as I'd hoped and I'm really upset about it. This whole process has been maddening. My surgery was originally scheduled for 7/31 but I got bitten by a spider on my abdomen so my surgeon postponed the surgery. I was to remain on the liquid diet though so I've basically been dieting since 7/17. Since 7/17, I have only lost 42 lbs ????. I know I should be happy but I really thought I'd have lost more by now. On a happier note, My surgery pain is finally gone, that's been a definite plus. That pain was unreal!!! Anyway, enough about me, I'm just glad to have found you guys. I signed up for Bariatric Pal a year ago when I had started this journey but haven't been back much since then. Keep up the good work everyone ????

    6 days post op! Help!

Hi Jocelyn, I had my surgery, RNY, on 8/28, I'm just a few days ahead of you. Im struggling with your same issues. Since everything medicine and supplement wise has to be crushed, I'm eating one applesauce cup a day divided in thirds. 1/3 in the morning for my Calcium Supplement, 1/3 around 3:00pm for my next 2 pill dose of Calcium and then the last 1/3 I mix with my Bariatric Chewable Supplement. Believe me, this is more than enough to fill me up each day but know I need more and want more. I've been adding high protein yogurt to the mix, cottage cheese and the best thing ever was yesterday, an Egg Beaters Scrambled Egg with low fat cheese...HEAVEN!!! I just bought an amazing cookbook called , "Earing Well After Weight Loss Surgery" by Levine and Bontempo-Saray. The authors recipes sound delicious and they break down the recipes telling when in your recovery, you can have the recipe. This is where I got the idea for the scrambled egg. Keep the Faith my fellow weight loss surgery sister, we can do this!!,!

    Nervous Newbie Here!

Hi there, another Nervous Newbie here. I was wondering if you would mind if I asked you a few questions. This is my first time here, I have just had my Psych Eval and Dietician Eval done. Now I wait for them to write up their reports, send them to my PCP who I guess then forwards all that onto my insurance? My main question for you if with you wouldn't mind is what made up your mind to go the route of Gastric Bypass vs Gastric Sleeve? I was leaning towards the Gastric Bypass but after attending a seminar last night with the head surgeon in my area for WLS and after meeting with the Dietician, they said they prefer the Gastric Sleeve. Now I'm confused as to what I want (if I even get a choice). My insurance requires my surgery to be done at UCSF and I meet with a surgeon there but I live about 30 miles away, am able to do everything else in my home town. My other question is how long appx did it take for you to get the a pproval to meet with a surgeon after you had your Psych & Dietician Evals? Thank in advance, WTG on the Surgeon apt for 11/7
