  1. Surgery on Oct. 29th and also struggling with the hunger thing. I experience the rumblings and the pains. No way I'm going to let someone tell me it's in my head. Last night I took a bunch of tums and that helped some, I'm not sure if it was because in calmed some acid or it just filled me up. I called the doc today because my postop appointment isn't until the 14th. She said the tums were okay and suggested I double my acid reducing rx. The problem will probably continue though until I can eat solid food. She agreed I could try a Greek yogurt on Thursday, 8 days out. It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm so jealous of others on the forum that have no appetite.

    Day 4 postop

My doc said it was okay to use any over the counter medicine except Advil and Aleve. Especially relevant for constipation. I took dulcolax pills on the second day home and they worked accordingly. Two days later I did it on my own. Surgery was only 6 days ago, on a full liquid diet, but still have stuff that needs to come out.
  3. I was worried about swallowing pills too but it hasn't been too bad. I was shocked when the nurse brought me 3 large Tylenol pills to swallow less than 12 hours after surgery. I told her no way and they switched me to liquid. The next day though I was able to swallow smaller pills one at a time. The hardest part was getting it down with the very small sip of water my stomach would tolerate. I had it all figured out which ones I could crush but decided to stick with the whole pills so I didn't have to deal with the bitter taste. (I can have whole pills but not applesauce.)
  4. So glad I'm not the only one feeling hungry. I am only 3 days post surgery but it is definitely my biggest challenge. I have been on an acid reducer since the beginning so I'm not sure if that is the problem. I am also thirsty (dry mouth). I have absolutely no problem getting in my necessary water and protein. I am so hoping this is a temporary problem that will improve when I move up to solid food. I am actually using the pain killers mainly for hunger pains!

    diuretic problems?

I gained 12 pounds in the hospital too. My surgery was just on Wednesday so I'm sure I'm not even back to my presurgery weight. I know it's just fluid so I don't have to feel guilty about it but it will make the overall numbers less. In the hospital and at home I have no trouble getting in the necessary amount of fluid because I'm so thirsty, still just small sips though. I wasn't on a diuretic before surgery but I did have a lot of trouble emptying my bladder.

    Oct 29th!

Glad you are doing well. My surgery went well too. I drank lots of water and was just cleared for protein shakes. If I drink two shakes I can go home! Just finished the first one but it took over an hour because my sips are so small. I have been getting heparin shots in my tummy but they are painless. I have to go home on one month of lovenox because I had a pulmonary embolism five years ago. I feel better now but I was frustrated because I was so HUNGRY! Didn't expect that.
  7. I just had surgery yesterday, but I found the pain went away after sleeping on my left side for a couple of hours. It's still early though so it may come back. I have also decreased the size of my "sips".

Good luck to all those going in tomorrow! It will be a new beginning for all of us.

    Preparing pre surgery

I've been trying a lot of different protein shakes during my preop phase. I prefer premixed drinks because they seem less gritty. I liked my Chike samples though. Even though I mixed it with water it still seemed a little thick. The other powder that wasn't too bad is chocolate Muscle Milk. My overall favorite though are the Atkins shakes, especially the cafe caramel and mocha. (Steer clear of Jay Robb piña colada.)
  10. October 29th for me. Nice to fine people at the same point in the process.

    Oct 29th!

I'm also the 29th. Love this forum to connect with other sleevers. I just started my pre-op diet today since the doc said I only have to do it for one week. I've been looking at different kinds of protein shakes. Anyone have a favorite?
