Rewards for pounds lost
I rewarded myself with new clothes. I have also incentivized myself by purchasing some new bras from Victoria's Secret. They fit barely now but in another 10 to 15 lbs those gorgeous bras will be comfortable. I cannot wait!

The time is now!
Welcome and good luck! It sounds like you are ready to make the commitment to changing your life. You are right, this very far from the easy way out. It requires hard work and a lot of will power. Keep us posted on your progress.

How long will it all take?
For me it took nine months to get through the process but my insurance required 6 months supervised diet/weigh in with a physician prior to approving.

Post-Op Weight Loss - New Around Here...
It is very common. It is called the three week stall. As long as you follow the plan (protein, liquids and exercise when u are able), the stall will break. It can be frustrating so if it really bothers you, stay off the scale for a week or two. There will be many more stalls along the way. Good luck!

Mother troubles...
This is a tough one but I know exactly what you are talking about. my husband who is not sabotaging me will go get something like dairy queen and then will ask if I want anything. He does this because he feels bad for me and somewhat guilty about having it himself not because he wants to undo the progress I have made. He himself is a food addict and needs to do something about his weight. He however is a big chicken when it comes to having surgery. Sometimes I actually will get mad at him and state the obvious: I don't need that and honestly neither do you. Then I feel bad so recently I just had a very straight forward conversation with him and told him that even though I don't crave that stuff now, I sometimes will look at it like it is something I could try. That temptation just does not need to be there. The good news is I have an extraordinary amount of will power to refrain. The bad news is, I am more worried about him having it than me going off track. So I then feel like a nag, I have actually had to watch myself a few times now. I believe he will come to his own decision to do something about his weight when he is ready. As far as your Mom goes, maybe sit down with her and share your feelings. Tell her it feels like sabotage and you need her support instead. You may find that there is an underlying reason she is doing this which has nothing to do with sabotage. Just my two cents....

Almost 4 years out
Are you exercising regularly? If not, that might help with those last 17lbs. I of course am still far from my goal but I am guessing those last 20 will give me trouble when I get to that point. I feel like I lose ok now but of course it has slowed way down from the beginning 2 months. I have to work very hard at it, some weeks I lose a pound others 3, usually no more than that.

Week 2 Question
I remember being so excited when I got to move to this stage. I made the mistake of pureeing tuna, chicken and eggs (separately of course). I now cannot eat eggs at all! The taste and smell make my stomach turn, it makes me very sad because i used to love eggs. I am good with chicken and tuna however I never want to eat them pureed again. One time was enough for me and I was done. I really ended up living on Protein shakes, yogurt (i ate a lot of yogurt), Cream of mushroom Soup, chicken broth and cottage cheese. I love cottage cheese however I could not eat it pureed, I ate small curd and basically pureed it by chewing the heck out of it. I also made fresh cooked carrots and mashed them with a fork. That worked very well and I love carrots even more now. Good luck on the next phase of your diet. The time goes quickly and then you will be on soft foods.

Protein Supplements?
I still drink one protein shake every morning before I work out and this is approved by my surgical team. it is a premier protein which has 30g of protein and very low sugar. The only time I have a protein bar is if I am out and about and don't have time to have a meal then i can eat about a half of one before I am full. That happens rarely because I try to plan my day so I get my meals in.

Help! I need ideas, and suggestions with exercise
@@CowgirlJane, I was going to say the same thing. I was just trying on bathing suits for my trip this coming week and all my sagging skin is making me not to want to put on a bathing suit at all. I have lost 73lbs so far and have another 71 to go to reach my goal. I exercise regularly and I am seeing a lot of toning of my muscles which is great but the skin issue is a whole different issue. It could be because I am 51 and it just is not as elastic as before. I have always planned on having plastics done but in the meantime it looks like I have a skin suit on. Honestly, that is a great problem to have so I am certainly not complaining. I would much rather live with my extra skin that all of that heavy fat that was making my health miserable.

Travel After WLS
I do think the type of your surgery is important. At two weeks i was feeling pretty good but got extremely tired during the day. I believe I was on pureed foods and if your surgery is the same I am guessing this will prove to be quite difficult. For me the pureed stage was absolutely the hardest and my new tummy was so new that it did not like a lot of the pureed foods. I lived on cottage cheese, Protein shakes and yogurt primarily. It is also much more difficult to get the right amount of Water in your body when traveling. When you are home you can sit with that water bottle in your hand and sip sip sip all day long. That proves to be much more difficult even for me now and 4 months and I travel all the time. All of these things, not enough water, so little food consumption and being so soon after surgery make a person very weak and tired. I had a great recovery but I still felt these things for about 4 to 6 weeks post op. Everyone is different though so maybe you can plan it and make the call to cancel if you need to? Good luck on your surgery and wishing you a very speedy recovery.

Living the dream!
I am so excited. We are headed to Hawaii on Friday with my hubby, son and granddaughter. We are taking a seven day cruise. I am 5 sizes smaller than my last vacation which was in August. That was the vacation where I could not keep up with my family and they would not go do things without me. I felt so terrible that I could barely walk off the cruise ship in to town and could maybe make in an hour, two at the most. By the end of that trip I was exhausted, had swollen ankles and could barely make it home. Now, I can RUN up the stairs, walk for miles and have more energy than I have in the last 20 years! We have a hike through the national volcano park scheduled along with many other excursions. I absolutely cannot wait. And yes, I will even put on a bathing suit even though I still have along way to go. These were all the things I dreamed about when I started this journey. I just wanted better health so I would be able to enjoy life and my family to it fullest. 4 short months and my dreams are coming true. How about you, what do you dream about?

Tomatoes and/or Fruit
I am 4 months post op and have been eating fruit for sometime now. At least 2 months. Fortunately I have not had any issues. Even at 4 weeks I was told to start eating canned fruit with my cottage cheese. Then following my 8 week check in I was told fruit is just fine without the peels.

Is this normal?
Yes, what you are experiencing is normal. As you introduce more protein into your system you will actually find yourself constipated. I would almost prefer the diarhea. I still find my pouch sensitive to ice water and liquids that are too hot. For me I prefer cool or room temperature liquids. I am told that it will go away after some time.

Your pre-op diet?
I would say I was improved but definitely not clean until the 10 day liquid. When I started that I was 100 percent sticking to the plan. For me I don't drink, smoke or even drink soda or caffeine so I really only needed to focus on some bad habits. I ate in front of the tv and typically did not chew my food as well as I needed to. I was a slow eater so that was not too bad but I focused on slowing down even more. I would say I still eat in front of the tv for some of my meals (yes i know that is bad) and eating slower than I already was is much harder than it seems. If I ever have an issue it is usually because I am eating too fast. The tummy lets me know it right away.

Exercise after WLS....
To was feeling the same way at that time. I found I had to simply push through that fog and get going. I started working out using the elliptical and treadmill for 20 minutes a day. I found within a couple of weeks that I could do more and began increasing my workout time. I ended up at an hour a day and then got into a three week stall. I was told I needed to eat more and back down my exercise to 30 minutes every other day until the stall broke. Now I exercise every other day for a total of 40 minutes. I do a fat burn on the elliptical and add muscle endurance to that workout as mine has that feature. I also use the treadmill and do a cardio workout for about 20 minutes. By the way I excercise in the am when I have the most energy. I drink a premier Protein shake which has 30 grams of protein every morning. I work out shortly after I drink my shake. After my workout I have a yogurt with high protein granola. It is replenishing after a workout. I have been very consistently successful with this routine. I also noticed when I first started it was very hard for me to walk up my stairs leading into the lower level where my equipment is. Now, I can literally run up my stairs and I feel fantastic!

Day four...the hardest day yet...
Hi there! It sounds like you are doing exceptionally well. You are probably correct that you were dehydrated after sleeping so long. In terms of fear post op, I had none. I simply took it one day at a time and stuck hard to the post op diet and exercise plan. People get into trouble when they go off plan. At 8 weeks I was told that my tummy should be healed inside and that it would be very unlikely at that point to spring a leak. You just need to take it slow and make sure you get as close to your Protein goals as you can. It is the protein that heals your wounds. Good luck and keep on going, you are doing fantastic! You are going to be so happy as the weeks and months go by and you see the fruits of your labor.

Why did you choose GBP?
I am now 4 months post op. I was planning on the sleeve until I actually spoke with my gastroenterologist and learned that the sleeve can make Gerd/reflux worse which would mean a revision to bypass anyway. I also had type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and stage 3 kidney disease which was why I was having this procedure done in the first place. I had RNY on 9/29 and immediately my severe Gerd and type 2 diabetes was gone! In addition I had a fairly easy recovery and have been doing fantastic ever since. Even my kidney function has improved. I have not regretted having RNY for even 1 second. The only thing I di regret is not having it sooner. I might have not gotten kidney disease which is not reversible. Good luck on your decision and your upcoming surgery!

Tomorrow is my surgery....
Hi there! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. For me so far, I have felt like I won the lottery! The best advice I received was to walk walk walk & sip fluids all day long. I had a very easy recovery and was off all meds 4 days post op. The most uncomfortable part of surgery is the gas they put in your stomach. The only real way to get rid of it is to walk a lot. I was literally up and walking as soon as I got back to my room. Also that gas made it really hard to lay in bed so I found myself sitting in the chair in my room when I wasn't walking. I also brought a pillow for the ride home. Good luck tomorrow and I wish you a very speedy recovery!

Can't sleep

Sad/Depressed after Gastric Plication Weight Loss Surgery
Have you had blood work completed to make sure you are getting all the right nutrients? The lethargic feeling could be the result of nutrient deficiencies as well. This could be a combination of your mourning food to cope and maybe not getting proper nutrition. I would certainly talk to your physician as to next steps. Good luck, I hope you can get the right help and start feeling better soon.

Slow loser due to my age?
I am in my 50's as well, I have hypothyroid and am going through menopause. I am losing at a much slower rate now vs. in the beginning. I am probably losing about 3lbs a week.
