    Post Op Calorie Count

I am drinking 2 protein shakes a day right now which is giving me 320 calories and 60 grams of protein. Maybe I need to add another with my workouts because I literally am working more than one of those off as I even start my day. I actually end up negative until almost dinner time and then of course cannot catch up.

    Post Op Calorie Count

I definitely think I an not getting enough calories at this point and I am on a second week stall now. The good news is I am hitting my protein and water, bad news, I am not sure how to up my calorie count, I just am not hungry and when I am, I am craving more protein heavy things like cheese. Ugh! I am getting between 450 and 550 calories a day and I am doing cardio for an hour every other day working off a good chunk of those calories. I am taking all my vitamins my blood work has been very good. I am just stalled. Any thoughts on what I could do to break the stall?

    Many questions

I 2nd James reply. You are young now, the older you get, the harder it is to continue the weight loss yo yo until it just simply starts adding up. Also, you may not have other comorbidities now but trust me, it will catch up with you. Yo yo dieting damages your metabolism and over time your body responds by gaining back more than you lost. When you age it gets harder to fight back. It sounds like you are doing a fabulous job of research, I think it is time that you talk with a surgeon who understands your medical condition and your goal to not have to deal with revisions. It sounds like the lap band or sleeve may not be the best option for you based on what you already learned, and bypass may be out because of your medication requirements. I would look to a surgeon who specializes in bypass and DS. They are going to be able to advise you best. Good luck and I wish you all the best!
  6. Thankfully I drank only once in a while before so it is certainly easy for me to not indulge ever again if I don't want to. It also helps that my husband has never had a drop in his life. My son is also has not touched a drop in 8 years.
  7. For me I get a big sigh right before I hit the wall and I know to stop. I have had the chest pain, I have not experienced dumping and I hope I never do. I listen to the sigh.
  8. Good luck to you! Keep us posted on your progress. I am excited for you!
  9. Thanks! I have been tracking everyday. The only thing that has changed for me is that I am more aggressively exercising. My husband and son thought maybe I was gaining a bit of muscle and that weighs more. Not sure but the good news is I don't usually get hung up on this stuff and my eating habits are right on target so I figure it will work itself out. Have a great time and take lots of pics in your new clothes!

    Migraines and bypass surgery

I have been using Topomax daily along with propanol as a preventative. Up until my surgery they really did not do much for me. However I had a rescue shot called DHE that worked 75 percent of the time when I use them. I also had another when the headache was so severe that it could send me to the er. That shot was called Ketorlac. I have only used that a couple times now since my surgery in late sept. I am now weaning off propanalol and once I am done with that I will finish weaning off Topomax. I will then just use my rescue DHE as needed when I get a migraine. I can no longer take the Ketorlac because it along with other meds caused stage 3 kidney disease. The way I understand it, migraines are hereditary and when u are overweight it can really trigger them and make them worse. I am hoping between that and going through menopause mine will soon come to an end forever. They suck! I actually have arthritis in my jaw from so many years of suffering with them. Now my son and 10 year old Grandaughter get them. She is not overweight at all. In fact might be the opposite.

    Migraines and bypass surgery

Hi there fellow migraine sufferers! I too had them very bad prior to surgery, about 5 days per week consistently. As soon as I started my liquid protein diet they improved greatly and I did not have one for almost 6 weeks. I had my surgery on 9/29, I have had 3 headaches since then. My neurologist believes it has everything to do with our high protein low carb diet. The 3 headaches I have had occurred during a really bad cold and were triggered by a sinus issue. It is still pretty early for me to tell but I would tell you they have improved greatly. It has been one of the best benefits of the surgery so far. Migraines suck as you know!
  12. I am so excited for you! Congratulations! I am headed for Hawaii in February and wondering what size I will be then as well. I just had my surgery on 9/29 and I am down 59 lbs but I have been in a stall for a week now. Hoping that passes soon. I hope you have a fabulous time and Happy Anniversary! Way to go!
  13. Those of you that have the iPhone 6 can put all of your medical information under the health application. The great thing about it, medical personnel and EMTs are being trained to look for that information and do NOT need a code to get into your device. I just got mine last week and was able to insert all my medical alerts, medications and emergency contact information. I was going to order a bracelet and then my hubby told me about this new feature and immediately ordered me a new phone. I also love the other health features in the software now too.
  14. Hi there, I am currently at the 9 week mark post op and down 59lbs. I have been stalled the last week when I went from walking to cardio workouts on my new elliptical gym and treadmill. Not sure what is going on there but I am certain it will pass as my diet continues to be on track. My son thinks maybe I am beginning to gain muscle back and that weighs more. Anyway, the scale did move a bit yesterday in the right direction so hopefully it will continue to move in the right direction. I am not going to get hung up on it, just going to keep on moving forward focusing on the right food, hydrating and exercise. Good luck everyone!

12 DAYS POST OP NEED HELP

I think you just might be a bit nervous. I am shocked to hear you were discharged after only 24 hours. In terms of fluids, you should be sipping constantly. As long as you are sipping and not gulping you should be just fine. You want to get between 48 and 64 oz. of fluid down. It is very hard to do that without constantly sipping on something. I am sure you are doing great but if you are really worried, don't be afraid to give your surgeons office a call. The most important thing for you to do is stay hydrated at this point. Keep on sipping.

    Regular diet?

I know a lot of people ask about corn in general so that was one of the questions I asked my nutritionist yesterday as it is one of my favorite vegetables. She said that my pouch is now healed and that I could eat corn as well as other foods as long as I took them one by one and tried them slowly. I had a tiny bit of corn last night with dinner and had no problems. I usually have a protein and vegetable for dinner, I chose corn even though it is more of a carb.of course I could only eat less than a teaspoon after getting my protein in. But boy was it good!

    Regular diet?

I was just released at 8 weeks post op to proceed with caution. Of course following all of the rules as I am an RNY patient. I eat so little currently but I had peant butter for the first time this morning! Woo Hoo!

    Just starting

Not sure about your insurance company or not but mine required I use a certified center of excellence however I could use my doctors office for 6 months supervised weight loss portion of the program. I started at the doctors office for the first month because I wanted to get things moving, when I got to the end and we went to turn in the paperwork, there was a question about one missing month that I then had to fight through with my insurance company. It did not take long to clear it up but it would have been much smoother had I started and continued with the surgery center of excellence from the beginning.
  19. I had this problem with 4 of my incisions and had to clip them before the would heal. I still have one that continues to scab up in the corner where the stitch rejected. When I talked to the nurse she said it would just take time. My surgery was on 9/29.

    Introductions

Hi there! I am in Shakopee, MN. I had RNY on Sept. 29th, 2014. I just found this little Minnesota group and thought I would reach out.
  23. Hi there! It is ironic for me it was a diagnosis of stage 3 kidney disease that pushed me to make my decision. I too am a type 2 diabetic however mine was very controlled. My kidney disease was actually caused from medications used to treat my migraines and psoriatic arthritis. A combination of too much cyclosporine (I had severe psoriasis that put me in the hospital). Anyway, years of taking these meds wacked my kidneys to the point that I have full blown CKD stage 3. It was my Nephrologist who suggested WLS. I am grateful every second of every day that he did! I started the process last December and had my surgery on Sept. 29th. I am off all Diabetes meds, high cholesterol meds, high blood pressure meds. My kidney function has improved within a month of surgery. Most importantly I feel fantastic! I walk faster and better. I have lost 4 sizes in clothing! Best decision I ever made. I know that having surgery can be scary but in the case of getting healthy vs. continuing on a unhealthy path, for me it was a no brainier. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision!

    Gastric sleeve operation

Hi there! Just based on what you have said so far I think you are taking the right steps to better health. If you wait too long too long to start a new life, you will miss out at many more years of feeling better. I can only speak from my personal experience. I am 51, I have hypothyroid, type 2 diabetes, stage 3 kidney disease and psoriatic arthritis. I have also suffered from very severe migraines my whole life. I weighed 310lbs and I am 5 ft 10. I have had 5 back surgeries and have a neurostimulator implanted in my spine to deal with nerve pain. I began this process when I was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease and my doctor told me if I did not do something I would be looking at dialysis and ultimately a transplant in my older years. I began the WLS process within 2 weeks of getting that diagnosis. It took 9 months to get through it. I had my surgery on sept. 29th, 2014. I am down 59lbs and 4 sizes. I CAN work out as much as Want. I am off all diabetes meds, high cholesterol meds, high blood pressure meds, pain meds (been off those for 2 years), and my migraines have improved greatly! I feel fantastic. This was the best thing I could have ever done for myself and there has not been one single day that I have regretted it. I feel healthier. I still have 87 lbs to go and many more years to maintain it but I was given a great gift! If I were you, I would do my research. Don't be afraid! Good luck and keep us posted!
  25. Hi there, At the end of the day you have to make the final decision on this. I would encourage you to continue to do your homework. It is likely your surgeon is pushing you in that direction because of your previous food behaviors. RNY is a bit more restrictive when it comes to pastries, sugar and the like. I would say in my short time as a bypass patient, your taste for those things do change and that is a wonderful tool to have in your toolbox. I am hoping that lasts forever for me. But as others said, in the end it is up to each one of us to change our behaviors to make any of these surgeries work. My original plan was to have the sleeve, after learning about the pros of RNY I ended up going that route and I have not regretted for even one second so far. Good luck to you!
