HELP! New problems with throwing up

To quote stephsanders68 "Are you still losing? It is easy to think that the band is too tight, but in my case it was the opposite. I think that everyone has to experiment a little and see what is right for them. Right after the adjustment I lost 14 more lbs. " I am still loosing although I am loosing slowly (normal for me). My clinic does 3 fills on all new bandsters 2 weeks apart. that was fill 2 and I am scheduled to have my third fill in one more week. After that they leave it up to your discretion as to when you have a fill. I will keep it in mind though. Once again thanks to all for your help. I have been on liquids all day and am already feeling a little better. I think I will stay on liquids at least one more day and then try mushies.

HELP! New problems with throwing up

Hi guy's, Thank you for your quick response. It's amazing how accurate the info you get from other bandsers is. I spoke to the clinic this morning and they confirmed your advice. They said I was probably swollen from getting stuck earlier in the week. They suggested a 24 to 48 hours of liquids followed by carefully adding back solids. Protein shakes are O.K. which should keep me full and nourished. If that does not work they suggested a small defill. They said after throwing up I should go to fluids for one to two days to rest the stoma and esphogus. Funny how I have read that here but didn't listen. Silly me. BTW what is the difference between PBing and sliming? Thanks again.

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

Firstly I want to let each and every one of you know you are an inspiration, I can relate to the comments of you look good, did you cut your hair and a slip up or pig out not being what it used to be (thankfully). Looking at the progress of others I seem to be creeping along on my weight loss and I need to keep looking at my NSV's. I consider it a blessing every time I feel full and have to stop eating. I don't remember feeling full in the last 10 years. I was usually hungry and sometimes sick from eating too much. A big one for me (NSV) is when I fit into a pair of 24 pants and they were not even tight (they were very tight when I bought them). Since I was up to a 28/30 pant before beginning this journey i consider that a big victory. Yay!

    Irritating Scale . . .

I'm not sure how smart it was but I requested a doctors scale for valentines day 2 years ago. Romantic, eh! Other people get diamonds and I get a scale. The life of a fatty. Fortunately or unfortunately I cannot fool myself now and see every loss and gain to the nearest eighth of a pound. I weigh myself naked so I go by this weight and not the weight in the doctors office, clinic office or anywhere else. Actually it was a good investment and it is not really sensitive to different spots on the floor since it is pretty heavy. If you can swing it financially (a lot cheaper than renovating, I think I paid aprox. $500.00) and have a spot to place a conversation piece I would recommend it. my problem was to stop weighing myself everyday. I now only weigh once a week.

    Claming the band

Hi Sherrylynn, You should claim your surgery cost under medical expenses. All you need is your receipt from the clinic since even plastic surgery is deductible as a medical expense. Good luck.
  6. Hi Julie, I have been reading about your journey over the past couple of months and you have been a great inspiration to me. You have touched my heart although I have never met you in person. I am also on the short side, (5'2" 3/4) and beginning weight was 305 ,so seeing someone else who began with as much to loose as me succeed has been really encouraging. i am so sorry you are having this complication on your last leg of the journey. I know you have touched the heart of many as you have touched mine and I trully hope this resolves soon without too much more suffering. Although it is hard to keep the spirits up when life seems to beat you down, spoil yourself a little. If well wishes could heal you will be better by tomorrow.:rolleyes2: Sherri

    Lapbanders lunch - Mississauga

Hi all, How often do you meet. I am recently banded (Dec 6, 2007) and would love the opportunity to meet other bandsters. Unfortunately I couldn't attent the lunch on the 20th.
  9. Hi Marnie, I too was morbidly Obese with no other health problems. I am in fact really healthy. My fear is my good ginetics and good luck would run out. i also resented the fact I was too fat to do things I wanted to do. In your research you need to seperate the different types of bariatric surgery. I think you will find very different stats for bypass and banding. Although bypass has a really high mortality rate I think you will find it is really small for banding. I too was scared by the risks of complicaitons but put into perspective they are minor compared to the risks of being obese. recent advances in types of bands used and experience with placement and fills has reduced some of these complications. My only advice is go for the best surgeon you can find even if it costs a little more. Make sure the surgeon has performed at least a few hundred laproscopic surgeries and has vast experience with the band. I know it is a big decision and good luck

    Thyroid problems

I have hypothyroidism and take a replacement hormone daily. i believe the iodine swallow will kill the thyroid and require you to take replacement hormone daily as well. I have a friend with Graves disease who had success treating his overactive thyroid with chinese herbal medicine (from what I understand a really bad tasting tea). i really don't know too much about it but I do know over or underactive thyroids can be dangerous if not treated. If you are not comfortable go see a herbologist who does chinese medicine or get a second opinion from an endocrinologist who specializes in diseases of the thyroid. Good luck!

WORKING OUT and Proud of it!!!!

I was banded on Dec 6 and was told not to lift anything heavy (no weights) until 1 month after surgery. Walking was encouraged from the first day. I just started to exercise this week with a trainer. He comes to my house for an hour & it is the best thing. I feel really energized and like I will get into the exercise habit.

    Introducing Myself

Hi Dr. JLo, I live in Toronto, Canada and know I will be needing plastic surgery (minimum of BL & TT). How do I find a really good PS in the Toronto area? Do WL patients pose a special challenge to a PS? Are you aware of anyone in Toronto who specializes in PS on WL patients or anyone whose work stands out as really good? Other than board certified PS, what else should I look for? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Sherri
  13. My doctor said I should be able to return to work within 3 to 5 days. I am a teacher and had to return after 7 days. I was told not to lift anything so I made sure to photocopy any sheets I needed and did not carry anything heavy. unfortunately I think I could have used 2 weeks off. that is when I felt ready to return. If I had to do it over again I would have taken a full 2 weeks off.

    Ow. Ow? Ow.

I too had pain after surgery. My most severe pain was my shoulder and my wrist (student doctor did IV which pissed me off since I went to a private clinic and not a teaching hospital). Unlike many of the posts I was not back to normal after 3 days. I had to go back to work on day 6 and was still taking paid med and was very groggy. My husband drove me to work but could not next day so had to stop pain meds. I am now 4 weeks post op and am really starting to feel good. Still a little soreness or discomfort at times. May be I'm a woos but I think I was not really ready for work for 2 weeks. I have slept ton's since my surger and am only getting back to my normal hectic pace now. I also took advantage of the extra attention and have let my family spoil me for the last month. All in all very worth it.

    Confusion????

I did not tell anyone about my surgery except my husband, children, one girlfriend and my carpool (only one person and needed her help with kids on surgery day). I did not tell my family or my husbands and never will. I told those people who needed to know I had surgery that I had a hiatus hernia repaired (turned out to be true). I think if I told them after the fact people would be angered that I had not been open and honest from the beginning. Personally i think it is my journey and I do not want the peanut gallery making me crazy. I will just tell people I have been dieting and lost weight. You have to evaluate what is best for you and do it.
  18. Hi J, I was banded on Dec. 6th and had the same problem. :omg: It lasted about a week. When I started on mushies it seemed to clear up. My doctors office said it is not unusual to have diarhea during the liquid stage. Although it is irritating and can be embarassing I don't think it is a problem. My only advice is to be sure to keep sipping Water so you do not dehydrate. Good luck, S

    shoulder pain is not gas

I had similar pain and am now almost 3 weeks out of surgery and still have some shoulder pain on and off. I have visited a chiropractor and a massage therapist. I will be going for another massage tomorrow. It certainly seemed to help with heat and gentle stretching. They said it was either due to the position during surgery and/or wrenching of the arm. My chiropractor did say the CO2 can do nasty things to the muscles when it infiltrates. Good luck:)
