Rny 11/18/14. Sw289 cw184. I've never counted calories just estimated, kept the Water and Protein up always! My workout is an hour on the treadmill 3-4 times a week. I've had many plateaus and one lasted over a month! I'm losing so much slower now and it's not every week that I can see a loss. I have 24 pds til goal which I set at 160. Once I get there I may reevaluate and take it from there. Moral of the story, keep going..work hard and enjoy the progress you make no matter how much you lose or how fast you lose! You will get there and that's all that matters!

I am 14 months post op. 5'4" . Went from 287 to 158. I don't think it was hard at all. Was it an adjustment? Yes. Do you have to fight cravings? Yes. You will hit stalls and get frustrated. You must stick to the plan as much as possible and stay active and the weight will fall right off. So hard for me? No. Always easy? No, but I wouldn't say it's hard. I've never been successful at weight loss until I had this tool. Just stay the course, stay focused and you will have success!!

first...who told you that? It was probably someone who doesn't know much about the surgery
second...whether you gain or loose weight is all up to YOU and how well you stick to your program.

I was surprised to find this thread is so current while I was searching Reactive hypoglycemia post–gastric bypass. I was having a few sugar drops recently so my GP had me do a two hour glucose test.
My two hour blood draw was 36.
To me the scariest thing was that the week before I had two incidents in one day where the room started to spin and I was sweating profusely. After driving myself home from my blood work I entered my kitchen and then the symptoms kicked in. So how low could I be getting before symptoms? I would have never driven if I had known I was that low.
Tomorrow I go to an Endocrinologist. I have never been a diabetic so I am not very happy with this new issue.

It's fairly common for some after gastric bypass. I have had several episodes but I am doing better now. My triggers were eating high carbohydrate foods which caused a hypoglycemic episode. I then tried to manage it by eating more carbs but that was not the answer. What I found works for me is frequent small meals no longer than 4 hours apart while awake. Protein first, limited but added carbs and some fats. For example I eat a yogurt in the morning 9am, Protein Shake mid morning 10:30am, small green apple about 11:30am or 12pm then lunch about 1pm which has protein & vegetables or protein & low carb Pasta, mid afternoon snack around 3pm is another yogurt and by about 6pm I eat dinner and then by 8pm I have another snack like sugar free popsicles or low carb candies. This varies because I have been adding more carbs like Peanut Butter crackers to my diet since I am trying to cut down on weight loss and maintain my weight now. Just a general plan. I was also told a referral can be made to a Endocrinologist if necessary. Feel better soon.

No, I've been testing it with my mother's meter. They might want me to monitor it more closely when I go in February. as for what triggers it, it seems to be anytime I go too long without eating. I pretty much have to be eating constantly, small bites and verryyyyy slowly, but constantly. One of my bad eating habits that has been very hard to kick is not eating for long periods of time. Now it's not only unhealthy to do that but it makes me feel really sick/faint.

yes - Cervidae is right - I've been reading up on it the last few minutes, and i looks like it's managed through eating small, frequent meals. And low-carb ones to boot.

I am with @@Threetimesacharm on this one. You should not be testing at this point because the nerves in your stomach have not healed and you really cannot feel how full you are.
You should be following your plan, measuring your food, logging your food so you know exactly what you are putting into your body.
I am sure you have heard this: just because you can eat that much doesn't mean you should.
This is the head part. I would suggest setting up an appointment with your nutritionist and possibly a phycologist to help you through.
Sorry for the tough love but you are on a slippery slope right now and these little tests can put you right back where you started.
By the way, I am not a DS patient but I can eat anything I want. Every time I slip and eat something like pie or chips, I stall out sometimes for weeks at a time. My longest stall was 28 days and I clearly caused it myself.
I will say I never tried to push the envelope until I was 6 months post op and fully healed.

First of all why are you even testing yourself by eating pie and bacon!! This is definitely looking for trouble. You should be measuring out your portion that you should be eating, say 3-4 ounces and that's it!! At three weeks out your stomachs nerves are still healing and you can't properly judge your intake you could seriously be damaging yourself. Start following your program that should have been laid out for you and good luck.

Yes, I found it is much easier than I anticipated.
I had an awesome surgeon, great support, and an very uneventful recovery.
I have found the post-op program simple (not necessarily "easy") and straightforward.
I also had the benefit of years of therapy and recovery and working on food issues that I believe has played a huge part in helping me through this process.
I have come a long way and have a long way to go, but I am more hopeful and optimistic than I have been in years.

I originally had the sleeve and was totally committed so yes it was easy for me. I followed my plan to a "T" and lost the weight I wanted to lose. THEN the hard part began. How do I keep it off. I have a hard time resisting foods once I start eating them so now I have to find healthy alternatives and literally stay away from any of my trigger foods; I will not be able to be successful if I "just have a bite/just have one/just have a handful".
I have to accept this life change as it is a big one; I will be a minority in the world of eating out, at parties, gatherings, bars, coffee shops, lunch outings etc......BUT I love wearing a size 6 and the way I feel and look. I pray everyday for the support and guidance I need to do this!!
